Interior designer Samantha Todhunter created this girl’s room in a home in south London by combining a stunning bespoke bed, made like an extended button-back sofa, with a fabulous feature blind, prints and a zebra print rug. One word springs to mind: fun.
Trudi Ballard, press officer of Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler has decorated her elegant Marrakesh house in a combination of English country-house style with traditional Moroccan elements. A rug – a gift a friend – brightens the scheme, while the raffia ceiling lights from Henry Cath are a unifying element that has been used in all the bedrooms. The light-filled house opens out from a courtyard with a traditionally tiled, cloistered walkway to one side from which bedrooms lead off, each with its own terrace.
The new kids’ collection for Zara Home is giving us some serious interiors inspiration. Not only do we love the dinosaur print bedding and sweet accessories but the sophisticated muted hues make a nice change from the primary colours seen in many of the high street ranges.

This bedroom manages to be both dramatic and elegantly muted. The scheme pairs the traditional – notably, the curtains – with modern elements, including glistening surfaces. A large painting by Ghada Amer hangs above the bed, while a comfortable headboard continues the cream palette.
This open-plan bedroom designed by Suzy Hoodless and architect Johnny Holland of Hackett Holland, is the stuff of dreams. Wide-plank oak floorboards and geometric tiles create a division between the bedroom and a bathroom area with a free-standing ‘Vieques’ bath from Agape. Brass strips edge the fabric-fronted wardrobe wall. Graphic curtains made with fabric from Madeline Weinrib add colour to the white walls by the bed. See the rest of the house here.
A stunning four-poster bed will make your child feel very grown-up, modern and sophisticated, while a combination of orange, raspberry and red is a modern alternative to traditional pink. White furniture helps to keep the look uncluttered. Try Argos for a similar bed.

This bedroom ticks a lot of boxes for me with the herringbone floor, contemporary light fitting and soft linen bedding. I always have a soft spot for period properties and the owners of this home have highlighted the gorgeous high ceiling with a dusty pink colour – a bold but highly effective way to add colour into a room without it being overwhelming. Also, by bringing the curtain pole the full width of the wall, the curtains do not cover the window at all – allowing for maximum light and a really luxurious feel with all of that lovely soft fabric. Touches of blue introduce colour and pattern in the main bedroom of a divine Provençal house by Andrzej Zarzycki. These include the painted woodwork, patchwork bed cover and large painting by Sarah Pickstone.
If you’re in the market for a new bed, consider a bed with drawers underneath for extra storage. If space is so limited that drawers may not open easily, use decorative bins under your bed for additional storage. We love milk crates and other woven baskets that hold up well and look great doing it.
