Maximising light and space was essential to show the owner’s post-war art and sleek French art deco furniture to their best advantage in this elegant Pimlico flat. In the bedroom nineteenth-century photographs bought from Portobello Market hang above the bed, while built in bookshelves flank the windows.

When it came to designing this Chelsea home, Stephen Eicker most enjoyed working on this bedroom, belonging to the owner’s two sons, aged three six. His starting point was the eldest’s obsession with trains, and this led him to the wallpaper by The New Yorker cartoonist Saul Steinberg, which he teamed with a turquoise carpet with red-and-white fabrics. Accessorised with vintage toy trains, the room is original and playful without being overdone or saccharine.

Why not perk up your bedroom with a simple bed canopy. This curtain was created with two fabrics from Fermoie and edged with rufflette. The top of the canopy is covered with a simple frame edged with a scallop trim.

An upholstered screen is a useful device when working with pattern as it can be moved to fill empty spaces (or hide areas such as a desk in a multi-purpose bedroom) and is relatively simple to recover when you tire of the design.

This open-plan bedroom designed by Suzy Hoodless and architect Johnny Holland of Hackett Holland, is the stuff of dreams. Wide-plank oak floorboards and geometric tiles create a division between the bedroom and a bathroom area with a free-standing ‘Vieques’ bath from Agape. A bright aqua bed frame pops against the lighter shade of the accent wall for a lovely color effect in this girl’s bedroom. A coral dresser is a great feminine touch while a mix of pillows adds an array of colors for a bright and fun finish.

Could anything be cosier than a built-in bed cubby? We’ve seen some cool bedrooms before, but this dream design from a real home in Chalk Farm, London had us reaching for the ‘Pin it’ button on Pinterest at record speed.
