An eclectic mix of styles doesn’t have to take up much room – in fact, sometimes a small space really highlights a wonderful blend of décor. This tiny bedroom, for example, combines Asian, retro, and rustic touches for a result that’s huge in personality and style. Another great tip for a small master bedroom: instead of bedside lamps, save space with pendant lights.
When choosing the pieces that will decorate your walls, try to keep variety in mind. Play with colors, textures and artistic materials for the artwork itself, and don’t be afraid to mix different sizes, shapes and frame styles.

This is the guest bedroom at a client’s penthouse in the centre of Barcelona. I love the colour scheme and all the fabrics used. It feels like you’re on a holiday in a beautiful hotel when you’re in this bedroom. It has an en-suite with a double shower so that you can shower at the same time as your partner, I thought this would be romantic. The velvet, the suede, the silk, the divine fabrics and tones used in this bedroom are an entire world of calming, soothing, touchy feely goodness. It’s also a deluxe combination. To me It’s a winner. Image credit

Cozy floral fabrics and billowy window treatments look airy and soft with the natural light pouring into the room. Accent colors are all the rage, but they don’t just have to be on your walls. Bring the brightness to your furniture by painting the backs, shelves, or sides (or all of the above!) of bookcases a festive hue, like this fun and funky gray and pastel pink bookshelf. The same concept can be applied to a number of different pieces of furniture, like the drawers of dressers or the legs of desks. Feel free to go wild; there’s no place better suited to be coated with color than a teenage girl’s bedroom. Be bright and bold with your choices, or opt for more subtle and muted shades— either way, contrasting colors are a trendy and fashionable choice when it comes to teen girl room ideas.

Using a small desk next to your bed will create a dual-purpose opportunity. Not only does it act as an oversized nightstand, but pair it with a small chair to serves as a work surface, too. Helpful Hint: Look for small-scale, previously-loved desks at flea markets to add instant charm to your presently-loved bedroom. Photo courtesy by AnNicole Faeth.
If you have a platform bed, create custom headboard by simply applying a material to the wall behind the bed. In the bedroom below, we applied a wood paneling to the wall behind the bed to create a custom headboard. The dark stained wood finish complements the platform bed color and ties it and the night stands together visually. You can make your headboard the full height of the wall or stop it part way up. To determine the minimum height for your headboard, prop up your pillows and measure 6”-8” (15-20 cm) above that.
