Add some sparkle to a princess-themed room with a starry wallpapered ceiling. This room’s blue ceiling, as well as small pops of powder blues, lavender, and bright coral, breaks up a mostly pink color scheme. Statement light fixtures above the bed give extra glamour that can carry into teenage years.
We’ve loved the grey and citrus colour combination for a long time but this more mellow yellow and grey scheme gives a softer feel to a child’s room. Combined with three perfectly placed prints and some stylish textiles, the whole look is uber chic.

Designer Adam Bray chose an earthy palette for the main bedroom of this London flat: the striped silk used for the headboard and curtains is ‘Charles X’ from Claremont and the jute carpet is ‘Compass’ from Tim Page. The striped silk curtains and headboard look matt in contrast to the glossy walls, as does thick jute carpet in a gutsy herringbone. A pop of vivid green from a lacquer bedside table and an elegant plaster with vellum shade are all reflected in a Maison Jansen-style mirror.
Hannah Cecil Gurney’s west London flat is a feast of luxurious colour, texture and pattern – little surprise given that her father founded the handmade wallpaper company de Gournay. In the main bedroom hand-painted silk cushions and a Burmese lamp pick up on the green in the ‘Badminton’ wallpaper from de Gournay, which ‘provides a cocoon of birds and butterflies that makes [Hannah] so happy’. The paper has been antiqued in order to give a tarnsihed effect.
In a west London industrial mews house owned by designer Caroline Riddell, the main bedroom has a neutral palette of panelled wood walls with splashes of yellow, creating a bright, sunny space. Open-plan living is made cosy with warm touches to this family home and office.
