This family home in Notting Hill was the work of Maria Speake, who along with husband Adam owns reclamation company Retrouvius. The children’s bedroom is decorated in Maria’s playful style, with bright green carpets, bold patterns and fun birch-ply shelving. The curtain fabric is by Svenskt Tenn.

I love the Scandi simplicity of this girl’s bedroom. Loft rooms are like a dream for most children – they are cosy, snug and a bit different. With this lovely white backdrop you can create a calm and uncluttered space – the mixture of white, pink and blue accessories make the room so modern. Current trends for girls’ bedrooms are veering away from the pink saturation approach of latter years, and moving towards something more creative and meaningful. You can decorate a room like this with slightly more nursery-like accessories to begin with and then up-style when your girl grows older. This can see your child through from baby, towards secondary school age – saving a fortune in decorating costs. On a final note, what’s not to love about the wonderful crepe lanterns and the cute lamb wall art?! Image Credit

More than a decade after inheriting their Perthshire estate, James and Caroline Inchyra have realised its full potential, turning it in to a bustling family home. Chintz curtains with an elaborate pelmet feature in this sunny bedroom. Take a look around the rest of the house here.

Bedding can or break a space, especially in a tween girl’s room where anything too cute can be too juvenile and anything too highbrow can be too adult. Instead of traditional florals, add an updated touch to a tween girl’s bedscape with overscale botanical prints.

In the bedrooms of Monteverdi’s Villa Muri Antichi, the hotel’s designer, Ilaria Miani has coupled wooden beams and marble floors sourced in Italy, with beds built by craftsmen in Sarteano at the foot of the hill. The C&C Milano bedlinen – dyed in shades of rose, eggshell blue and oatmeal – is handmade in Milan. The walls are finished in what is normally an outdoor render, but the effect is smooth and cool to the touch.

This twin bedroom is a guest room in a Carribean bamboo house. The bamboo, a traditional building material in the Grenadines, came from nearby Saint Vincent, where it is always harvested when the moon is on the wane. The belief is that termites quickly devour any bamboo cut when the sap is rising, even once the wood is cured.

The blind and headboard have been made in a matching fabric – a cost-effective trick for adding a punch of pattern to a bedroom. The blind is prettily trimmed in Samuel & Sons pom-poms. A window sill has been turned in to a reading nook with a padded cushion.

This townhouse was designed for a collector and we wanted to ensure that every room particularly the bedroom remained elegant and classic while providing a backdrop for the magnificent collection of works of art and antiques. The antique carpet provided us with the initial inspiration for the colour scheme of the bedroom; we chose to echo its green tones throughout the room from the walls to details and furnishings like the cushions.

I really like the bedroom design with the built in bed with moldings on the side and the shelf ledge on top. Do you have any additional pictures of this bedroom? I would like to have a built in like this constructed for my daughter but would like to see more images.

A tiny swatch won’t do white paint justice. Nail your pick by coating a poster board with the potential hue, and see how it looks during the day and at night. Here, a warmer tone keeps the bedroom glam yet cozy.

The furniture was found at Swoon Editions, including the low, mid-century modern rosewood media unit and bedside table. The bedding was bought from Anthropologie and the lighting from Urban Cottage Industries.

Designer Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay, the owner of this Victorian country house in Shropshire, has enhanced the interiors of this grand property with her signature mid-century aesthetic without compromising original features. The daughter’s room features striking striped wallpaper by The Art of Wallpaper and contains lots of bright, clashing patterns. This fun scheme makes for a lively space.

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed retreat perfect for entertaining.

This lovely – but tiny – home was once a library. Now it’s a testament to good use of small space, thanks to the designers at The Works. Notice the built-in cabinets and the recessed, upholstered “headboard” nook. Beautiful and genius.

The globetrotting owners of this west London townhouse employed a specialised team to restore its original mid-nineteenth century features, and create a home with a feeling of permanence after a lifetime of moving. The house is a tall, white stucco building that they wanted to work well for twenty-first-century family life. ‘We were determined to avoid beige banker chic, the owners explain.
