A twin attic bedroom has cosy bedding in Emma Burns’ former stables that she has converted into a weekend retreat. She has put into practice the principles that now guide her professional work as a designer at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler.
Wooden flooring can give a clean, spacious look, but unless you have underfloor heating, carpeting is the cosier option, bearing in mind that you’ll be walking around in bare feet at least some of the time. Another point to consider, if you’re a light sleeper or live in a neighbourhood where it can be noisy at night, is that carpets can help to muffle sounds, whereas wooden floors won’t. That said, you can always achieve a happy medium with polished floorboards strewn with luxurious, toe-friendly rugs.
This is my ideal bedroom style, I love the use of soft and subtle tones with small injections of colour such as the yellow used in bedside accessory bowl and the brass used on those gorgeous twin wall lamps. Whilst the room is light, with a large window, the space is warm and welcoming with the help of a plush throw, soft sheets and a complementing headboard to the bed. Image credit
Typically when your daughter becomes a teenager she will no longer want to have her room filled with pictures of fairies, stuffed animals, or princess decorations. Instead she will begin looking for sophisticated teenage girl room ideas and designs so she can revamp her space with more mature décor. Whether it be new bedding, a fresh coat of paint, or even updated furniture, redecorating can become costly so you may want to look for cheap room ideas for teenagers. For example, painting old furniture yourself is a quick, inexpensive, and easy way to create a new and custom look. Paint the furniture a rustic pink color and then distress it to create an elegant and vintage look that is very popular among new 2017 bedroom design trends. Other fads for a tween bedroom bright colors, geometric wall art, and modern furniture pieces. Storage space is an essential component of all teen girl room decoration so make sure to look for shelving units, trunks, and dressers. The design of this boys’ room was dictated by the original chimneypiece in their Brussels home. The leather headboards are designed by their father Jorge, who runs design company Casamidy with his wife Anne-Marie Midy.
On the hunt for gorgeous bedroom ideas? We spend around one third of our lives in bed, so it seems only fitting that our bedroom should be as beautiful as possible. Being the most private and personal room in a home means your bedroom decor can be as wild and wonderful as you like. It’s a chance to really reflect your individual style and create a look you absolutely love.
The bedroom of this London townhouse is the work of Amanda Baring, who designed it for her sister, the owner. The neutral hues keep it calm and warm, while a collection of black and white etchings decorate the walls.
In newer construction, drywall is normally hollow and supported by vertical 2x 4 wood beams (studs) that are 16” apart. If your bed is set up on a non-exterior wall, use a stud finder to mark where your bed’s wood wall beams are and cut out an alcove. Your new alcove may not be incredibly deep, but it may be all you need for small necessities like an alarm clock or some personal items.

A net of interlocking ribbons attached to blank walls is a great way to display your favorite photos, postcards or other paper memorabilia. Plus, the art can be switched out at any time to suit changing moods, styles or tastes.
When designer Douglas Mackie and his partner Julian Jackson bought this house in the Languedoc region of the South of France, it was a chance for Douglas – a knowledgeable collector of textiles – to show off his stock of older, ethnic pieces. ‘I have always been an avid collector of pieces from North Africa and Asia, and now their rich saturated colours sit wonderfully well in the shafts of sunlight of a southern home.’ In the spare bedroom a Persian jajim hangs against the brush-plastered wall in place of a headboard. On the floor is a vintage Moroccan rug, while the bed linen is from Conran.
By choosing fabrics and furnishings in luxurious styles and textures, designer Judith Balis crafted an ultra-glam room that’s both timeless and on trend. To keep the chic side tables from becoming cluttered, she opted for stylish hanging globe light fixtures instead of traditional table lamps.
Jane Sacchi recounts the experiences of updating a twelfth-century tower in Florence, with her husband, architect Bruno Sacchi. ‘It took three years to transform it into an exceptional family home, during which period Bruno often wandered about with a hammer and chisel picking plaster off the walls to expose the frescoes.’
If you don’t have room for a four-poster bed then a pelmet like this one by Paolo Moschino can be a creative alternative. The linen curtains are made from ‘Nyvelle Oyster’ by Paolo Moschino for Nicholas Haslam. The clean, straight lines and border of blue stands out against the dark walls.

An entire room filled with bright color is too much intensity for a tiny space, but when you use a few hot shots of eye-catching color to heat up neutrals or classic black-and-white, the temperature is just right.
all these rooms are SUPER cool. Awesome creativity! But next time, it’d be great if maybe you guys could design a room thats, well, more affordable looking/ realistic. I mean, c’mon, we’re teenagers who dont really have THAT much extra cash on hand to use on hand haha. And maybe ‘simpler’ room sizes. The loft one is super cool, but its not like everyone has a loft in their room. . . . awesome ideas though!

If space for a tree is tight, miniature box trees look super smart wrapped up in fabric such as velvet and placed on your bedside table. Don’t forget to put a small dish underneath the pot to catch any water.
The conversion of this Victorian terrace in west London was a collaborative effort between Thomas Croft Architects, John Cullen Lighting and designer Sarah Delaney. In the main bedroom, an exotic hand-painted De Gournay wallpaper depicting oriental birds amid trees and flowers on a silver background is combined with panelling salvaged from another local house refurbishment.
Pale pink chiffon curtains and Bambi print bedding and accessories will appeal to the girliest of little girls, but combining these with granite grey panelled walls ensures the scheme is not too sacharine for adult aesthetic sensibilities.
Struggling to find the perfect bedroom colour scheme? Choosing the right colour palette is more important in a bedroom than in any other room in the home: Go too bold and you run the risk of restless nights.
Inspiration for a soft and elegant room design is easy to display with floral print bedding. Pick out a fun daisy print on a duvet cover and shams to add some cheer to your space. Bring out the colors of your bedding by using the complementary sheet sets we have available. Placing rugs around the floor softens the overall look and feel within the room. Adding golden finished lamps and chairs brings a cool finishing touch of glamour to your space.
Henry Bikerton, the director of antique and reproduction fireplace company Jamb, revived his traditional Victorian townhouse with carefully chosen elements of English country house style. He shares this bedroom with wife Sophie and his home with his two children. You’d never guess this room once so darky and dingey because the previous occupier had blacked out the windows with pizza boxes! Now the he windows are adorned with crewel curtains, originally made by the interior designer Hugh Henry and salvaged from a skip.
I like most of them. They are right, they are quite unrealisitc. But these are options. Plus Sanydy’s right. They aren’t just for you. They’re for every girl out there. The girly one, the tomboy. the artsy, the jock, EVERYONE. So you may not like it, but that doesn’t mean there not good designs. They each have great color and beautiful peices that coordinate well with each other. The pictures are something that could be totally different! These weren’t meant to be copied exactly. Just to give you ideas and peices. And that’s coming from a thirteen year old girl aspiriring to be and interior designer.
Ok, so…I have a small room. How many teenagers do YOU know that has these gigantic elegant hardcore expensive rooms??!! I know NO ONE who has a giant room. My living room is like the size of some of these rooms. Be REALISTIC.
Forget stars and stripes, it’s all stars and spots in Zara Home’s new kids’ range. Your little ones won’t be growing out of this fun black, white and red scheme anytime soon. In fact, we Kind of want it in our rooms.
Bring a little nature into your room with silk plants, animal statuettes and baskets. Faux succulents require no care but add garden beauty to shelves and windowsills. Glass tabletop terrariums do well in a partially shaded area, like on a desk in front of a window or on a graduated set of shelves against a bedroom wall. Accent the look with country-inspired wall-hangings like longhorns and guitar case shelves. Finalize the theme with a few brightly colored fabric tapestries for a country-inspired bedroom that’s every bit as fresh as the outdoors. Hanging a few of your favorite art pieces is also an excellent way to decorate.
Once the basics are in place, decorating is where the fun begins. Choose a feature to be the focus of your room. That can be a beautifully upholstered headboard, a fancy mirror, a few indoor plants, or simple and clean white bedding combined with a fluffy rug.
Gabby Deeming has created the atmosphere of a New England-style holiday home with painted wood furniture and faded stripes. The bedding is from Romo, and the driftwood side table is Oka.
Before moving in, the owners asked the interior designer, architectural historian and natural paint expert Edward Bulmer for his help. ‘Edward has a marvellous eye,’ says the owner. ‘We worked with him at our previous home.
