We don’t need to tell you how quickly your children grow up, so thinking ahead with a room scheme will avoid continuous decorating overhauls. A simple scheme with easily removable touches, like this fantastic race track wallsticker mean the bedroom can easily grow with your child.

Crete a truly multi-purpose room that will keep the kids entertained for hours. Our favourite part? The bright yellow painted floor and matching lampshades – because a room like this should be colourful and fun.

Transforming this tiny attic room into a children’s room for two required some ingenuity. Enter Kate Earle of Todhunter Earle who designed these overlapping bunk beds as a clever space-saving solution.

The main bedroom of textiles designer Susan Deliss’ French country house is painted in the softest of blues – pink curtains in an Osborne & Little silk add a contrasting jolt of colour. A mid-century modern chair has been reupholstered in a fresh gingham and the bed quilt was hand-dyed with indigo.

ACCESSORIES Plaster table lamps, ‘Very Good Seconds’, by Viola Lanari, 50 x 10cm diameter; with cotton lampshades, ‘Bedwyn’ (yellow wicker), 35cm diameter, £135 each, from Fermoie. Cotton oxford pillowcases, ‘Mariette’, £26 each, from Cologne & Cotton. Linen quilt (light blue/natural), 140 x 210cm, £390, from Once Milano. Early-nineteenth-century cotton cushion, 45 x 70cm, £140, from Katharine Pole.

The Pink Room in Bradwell Lodge is fun, feminine and fancy. A bold Bernard Thorp fabric, ‘Brimble’, has been used on the walls and bed, and for the blind: this creates a lovely sense of continuity in the space.

If you are going to opt for minimalism in only one room in your house, that room should be the bedroom.  No distractions for relaxation and a perfect nights sleep.  Although this white bedroom scheme is definitely minimalist, I like the fact it has warmth due to the herringbone floor and interest added with the contemporary four poster.  The simple bedding looks luxurious too and I would be more than happy to take a nap between those sheets. Image credit

This sweet, galleried play area designed by Trine Miller, has the dual function of creating an adventurous play space, while also keeping toys contained and out of view. ‘The idea was that the gallery was very much their private space,’ says Trine, ‘rather like a tree house.’ Beneath, a small bathroom has been installed.

A smattering of black stars shimmy across the walls and out the window in this modern kids’ room. It looks especially eye-catching painted on a brightly coloured backdrop. The idea also works well using animal footprints, which you can dot along the floor and over furniture.

Is this not the most magical room? So many beautiful goodies compiled into one amazing room! I spy our gorgeous little wooden rabbit by Oyoy sitting pretty and admiring the view ☺️ You can view our whole range of wooden animals and toys now at the link in

The Argentinian architect Mario Cannio has created a play on stripes in his bedroom, with shades of olive green and red, and an indigo-dyed bed cover. The bedroom also has its own open fire and wooden blinds fitted outside the windows to shade them in summer. A colourful oil painting hangs above the modern fireplace and below this sit a neat line of artists pigments.

Make tidying up more fun with pretty fabric storage boxes slotted into a white-painted unit. A large scale wall sticker picks up on the colours of the boxes to turn the storage area into a focal point.

My recipe for a cool children’s bedroom involves 3 main ingredients: great storage, blackboard paint and amazing lights. I love this room because it works just as well for girls as it does for boys. The rock star/monochrome theme is always age appropriate – very important because in my experience kids grow. Fast! The hip industrial vibe is den-like and softened with tactile furs, comforting checks and a cosy rug. Extra twinkling lights at ceiling height add a bit of fairytale magic and nobody grows out of sleeping under the stars, right? On the other side of this room I’d install a bank of full height cupboards to hide all the cargo that comes with every child and also has a habit of growing with them. Mini rock stars might prefer a cabin bed or and some extra spots and stripes in the form of soft furnishings would provide the X factor for me. Pretty pink curtains and a pink-painted bed is set against a backdrop of white panelled walls for a cosy country feel. A peg rail makes a sweet display for toys, as well as providing practical storage for bags.

This children’s bedroom in a Sussex newbuild belonging to architect Ptolemy Dean is nestled towards the top of the house. The cosy sloping walls are covered in painted wood panelling and decorated with a few choice framed prints. The look is finished with witty touches – a dart board and flags from around the world hung like bunting.

We want to hibernate for the winter in this gorgeous room. A mix of untreated wood, chunky knits and fabulous fake-fur throws cosy up the space, while jewel-toned accessories add a contemporary but warming touch.

Interior designer Robert Moore is a self-confessed magpie, and his home is bursting with beautiful things: books, photographs and silvery trinkets adorn every surface. The main bedroom is painted in ‘Tablecloth’ by Paint & Paper Library while the mirror was bought in Arundel. Nicholas Haslam will make the pretty gabled headboard to order, but Sofa.com’s ‘Inferno’ bed upholstered in cotton (starting from £695 for a double) is a good alternative.

It doesn’t take much to set an exotic style, so a small room is perfect for a global look like the Moroccan showstopper here. Just three elements – the silver pendants, the silver pouf, and the fantastic bed – are all it takes. If none of those are within your reach, consider adding an exotic throw pillow or two to your bed.
