If you’re in the market for a new bed, consider a bed with drawers underneath for extra storage. If space is so limited that drawers may not open easily, use decorative bins under your bed for additional storage. We love milk crates and other woven baskets that hold up well and look great doing it.

Four-poster beds with pale pink bedding and ‘Mistletoe’ muslin create the perfect country bedroom. Being well-versed in decorating country homes, Fiona Shelburne knew she wanted to turn this Hampshire house into a family-orientated home. She used an English country-house style with a contemporary twist to create a cosy family space. The twin four-poster beds follow this traditional style while adding height to the room. The ‘Mistletoe’ muslin from Simon Playle adds light and playfulness to the space; the curtains are in ‘Delphos Aqua’ from Jane Churchill.

Formerly a rabbit warren of small, dark rooms, this Victorian house in west London has been opened up, flooded with light and filled with the owners collection of art and furniture, to create a balance between its original character and modern style. The main bedroom and bathroom design proved problematic, due to the Victorian dimensions of the five-metre-wide space. The soft lighting and gentle palette brings to mind the inviting warmth of an art gallery. A charming arrangement of mostly Modern British oils and drawings, which owner Ben Whitfield collects, rests on a built-out picture shelf that doubles as a headboard.

I’m all about maximizing the use of space! Maybe, this is of interest, I recently hired Furnishr to design my living room. I know, I could have designed my room by myself, but I actually liked the designs on their site. Pretty great service. They designed, delivered, and setup my new living room furniture and decor in less than a week. Check them out if you’re interested, http://www.furnishr.com/

A dresser with mismatched drawers provides a fun storage solution in this boy’s bedroom, where grey walls provide a neutral backdrop for unusual design details. A ‘Love’ rug by Paul Smith, hanging model airplane and car print on the wall also add interest.

A lime green and blue colour scheme and a collection of characters, including a line up of sweet stuffed toys and a friendly whale rug, bring this room to life. This corner provides a perfect play spot with some smart storage boxes for kids to dig in and out of.

Can this possibly be the perfect bedroom? Let’s talk about the colour. This bedroom has the ever so popular grey wall. It’s modernised by adding a touch of yet another grey that has the slightest hint of a muted lavender. It’s pleasing to both men and women because this colour palette falls right smack in the middle of the appeal for both sexes. The black adds a nice masculinity and grounding to the room shown in the strong stripe of the area rug and gorgeous texture in the frames. The hard lines of the end tables are softened by soft white fabrics and an undulated headboard which add femininity to this space. This bedroom would be stunning solely with the striking dark grey wall panel and monochrome bedding, but the addition of the rich ochre throw, writing desk, vintage chair and chic accessories adds an extra element that takes this stylish scheme to a whole new level.

Your first impulse might be to think of the sloped ceiling and cramped space of an attic bedroom as a minus, but instead, embrace it as a plus. When the bed is piled high with quilts, pillows, and shams, and surrounded by simple, yet lovely furnishings as in the adorable country bedroom shown here, the sloped ceiling and limited square footage simply add to the cozy vibe.

I’m interested in function and beauty in my room; not space age cubicles with a splash of color here and there. Please include rooms that are actually realistic and comfortable. I understand this obsession with doctor’s office style bedrooms…

Make study and homework time more appealing by adding a sleek, grown-up desk to her bedroom. Pretty jars will keep pencils, pens and markers in place and add decorative appeal. Keep the top of the desk cleared off to inspire a welcoming workspace. Design by HGTV fan nu2tn

With stylish gray walls and mature furnishings, this little girl’s bedroom can keep her company for years to come. The contemporary white desk and nightstands are suitable for a young girl but can easily make the transition to pre-teen and older. Design by Nicole Sassaman
