Once you’ve found the right size bed, it’s time to choose your style. If you’re looking to make a contemporary statement, an oversized headboard will make a striking focal point to your bedroom scheme. Love traditional or country style? A beautifully upholstered headboard  will work like a charm. If you’re a fan of industrial chic or vintage finds, an iron bedframe might be just what you’re after.

Bright pops of colour are a simple, stylish choice for a kids’ room and works well against plain white walls. Make it modern by using accent colours not just on cushions, but beds, furniture and even the window shutters.

Can this possibly be the perfect bedroom? Let’s talk about the colour. This bedroom has the ever so popular grey wall. It’s modernised by adding a touch of yet another grey that has the slightest hint of a muted lavender. It’s pleasing to both men and women because this colour palette falls right smack in the middle of the appeal for both sexes. The black adds a nice masculinity and grounding to the room shown in the strong stripe of the area rug and gorgeous texture in the frames. The hard lines of the end tables are softened by soft white fabrics and an undulated headboard which add femininity to this space. Folksy textiles look fantastic when added to an otherwise simple scheme. The eclectic display of ornaments on a shelf above the bed fits with the theme and looks great – just ensure you hang it high enough so you don’t hit your head every morning!

Mixing rich colours and pattern can be difficult to get right. Dark patterned blue wallpaper ‘The Brook’ from Morris & Co, which pattern continues around the room adds character and a playful feel. The bright ‘Red and Cream Stripe’ wool rug from Sinclair Till lightly compliments the pattern and helps to balance and tie the room together.

How fun are they? A lot of these ideas are super easy, but will still give you a really awesome look and some of them are a little harder and may need some assistance. If you spend nearly as much time in your room as I do in mine, they will all be well worth it. If you’re in the market for a new bed, consider a bed with drawers underneath for extra storage. If space is so limited that drawers may not open easily, use decorative bins under your bed for additional storage. We love milk crates and other woven baskets that hold up well and look great doing it.

Designer Jane Taylor has ingeniously incorporated storage into her small bedroom in Chelsea. Wardrobes and cupboards are concealed behind panelling made by Sympatico Joinery, which is painted in Zoffany’s ‘White Clay’, from £41 for 2.5 litres of emulsion. Shallow cubbyholes in the panelling next to the bed function as bedside tables.

Yes, even if your bedroom is small, you can still have a wow-inducing accent wall, as proven so strikingly here by Décor Gold Designs. Bold wallpaper has a place even in the tiniest of rooms. Just stick with one wall – preferably the one at the head of your bed – and keep the rest of the room sedate in terms of color and pattern.

Pink and green are the perfect duo in this little girl’s bedroom. Floral fabrics and jeweled accents add an innocent and youthful feel, while still emitting a mature and grown-up style. The miniature chair and ottoman provide a cozy spot to curl up with a good book before bedtime. To inspire organization, HGTV fan ssd used white wicker containers to hold toys and accessories.

When it comes to bunk beds for kids, three words: versatility, versatility, versatility. This stylish bed works as a traditional bunk, or easily separates into a loft bed with a twin bed underneath (or an ‘I shaped’ bunk bed) – perfect for awkward or small spaces.

The main bedroom in this Belgravia house is decorated with a sophisticated mix of geometric patterns, brass finishes and decorative bits and bobs. The focus is on the details in this room, including a geometric cushion by Jan Showers and a Ralph Lauren bedside lamp.
