This bedroom by Samantha Pynn is my dream bedroom! The soft colour palette with the simple design gives this room such a relaxing feel, while the blue floral ceramic stool and pillows add another dimension to the room, and keep it from feeling too soft. The sheer curtains let in lots of light, keeping the room lovely and bright.

The interior of this eco ‘dwelle-ing’ is flooded with natural light thanks to skylights, glass doors and windows. The effect is intensified in this garden room by white walls and a neutral colour palette (see our white room ideas and how to use white paint). Typically when your daughter becomes a teenager she will no longer want to have her room filled with pictures of fairies, stuffed animals, or princess decorations. Instead she will begin looking for sophisticated teenage girl room ideas and designs so she can revamp her space with more mature décor. Whether it be new bedding, a fresh coat of paint, or even updated furniture, redecorating can become costly so you may want to look for cheap room ideas for teenagers. For example, painting old furniture yourself is a quick, inexpensive, and easy way to create a new and custom look. Paint the furniture a rustic pink color and then distress it to create an elegant and vintage look that is very popular among new 2017 bedroom design trends. Other fads for a tween bedroom include bright colors, geometric wall art, and modern furniture pieces. Storage space is an essential component of all teen girl room decoration so make sure to look for shelving units, trunks, and dressers. In this children’s bedroom in Paris – its elegance quite unlike any other child’s bedroom – the walls are adorned with painted medallions hanging on beaded strings. Each medallion contains a motif, a religious icon or mythical creature, which ‘watch over’ the children as they sleep. The medallions are by Jorge Estevez – who claims he is a decorator, and not an artist.

If you have trouble getting to sleep at night, then you might want to stick with restful neutral tones, combined with soft lighting. If, on the other hand, you find it hard to propel yourself out of bed in the morning, then it’s a good idea to opt for a bright, cheery colour that will make you eager to start the day. Pale hues can be used to open up a small bedroom and create a sense of space, but if the room is chilly or north-facing, then blue-greys should be avoided in favour of warmer tones. When selecting a bedroom wallpaper, dense, busy patterns and a strident palette can work against a restful, calming atmosphere, so it’s a good idea to stick to designs that are are more quiet and subtle.

My personal choice of colour palette frequently ebbs towards darker, richer tones during the winter months, because these tend to evoke warmth and comfort. This dark and alluring charcoal-coloured bedroom in a loft apartment creates instant drama and is instantly warmed by the blonde tones of the striking herringbone floor. Finished off with an exciting array of textiles, including a ‘must-have’ upholstered headboard, this bed is sheer indulgence. I also love the carefully curated collection of objects featured on the distressed shelving, and not forgetting the luxe-look side table. Perfection! Image credit

A girls bedroom furniture is an essential component of the design. You can choose from a wide variety of furniture pieces that are specifically created for little girls or search for pieces that can be used when she is a teenager and adult. For example, a dresser with an attached mirror will look attractive in your daughters when she is young but will become useful as she matures into an adolescent and starts wearing makeup. Similarly a trundle bed will last for many years in a small girls room and provide an extra place for your daughter’s friends to sleep when she has slumber parties. It is also perfect for a shared girls room because it can be tucked away during the day to free up space in the room. Other small room design ideas that will save space try searching for pretty white bunk beds or a lofted bed which you can put a desk or dresser underneath. When she is older she can even put a futon underneath for a fun place to hang out with her friends.
