Weathered shutters add a touch of shabby chic flair to this cozy gray and white bedroom from Décor Gold Designs. It’s easy to work a vintage vibe into even a small bedroom – use an antique chest as a nightstand or footboard, set an old door in place of a headboard, or adorn your with framed vintage embroidered handkerchiefs, maps or botanical designs.
When else in your life can you have a bed that looks like a boat? So indulge your child’s fantasies with a themed room; chic pale blue walls with red and white accessories keep this nautical room uniformed and smart without being garish or twee.
A colorful polka-dot theme gets a sophisticated update with splashes of neutral brown. The cheery spots pop up on the bedding and walls (create a similar look with wall decals). Add in a few chocolate-brown elements, such as throw pillows, and the room takes on a more mature look, perfect for girls growing into adolescence.

The Pink Room in Bradwell Lodge is fun, feminine and fancy. A bold Bernard Thorp fabric, ‘Brimble’, has been used on the walls and bed, and for the blind: this creates a lovely sense of continuity in the space.
In this Paris flat, London-based designer Tara Craig has used a strong, simple palette with devastating effect. The walls of the spare bedroom are painted in ‘Papaver’ by Adam Bray for Papers and Paints, with an imposing ‘Carlyle’ headboard from Ensemblier London upholstered in ‘Serpetti’ linen by Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

This gorgeous girl’s room has hand painted, full room wall mural with wooden floors. The atmosphere in this room is enough to give wings to the imagination to your little fairy. I won’t be surprised to find her in the land of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, fast asleep in the garden, waiting for her prince. The traditional bed and the furniture enhance the mystic feel of the atmosphere.
There is no reason at all that a small bedroom – even a really tiny bedroom – can’t be every bit as gorgeous, relaxing, and just plain full of personality as a much larger space. (As proof, check out the elegant bedroom from Laura Stein Interiors shown here.) The trick to creating a lovely bedroom when square footage is limited is to make smart use of the space you do have, keep furnishings scaled to the room, and most of all, not be afraid to show off your decorating chops.

The owner of this London flat, a prolific collector of art and antiquities, has turned it into a veritable chamber of wonders, while ensuring that it also functions as a supremely comfortable home. The bed hangings are made from the reverse side of a Fortuny material and topped with antique, wood and gilt corona found in a Cotswold antique shop. On the wall is a famous portrait of Anne Hyde, Duchess of York, by Sir Peter Lely.
Grove Lodge, the Cambridge home of Tim Knox, director of The Fitzwilliam Museum, and landscape designer Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, provides the perfect setting for the couples growing collection of artwork and curiosities. In the spare bedroom a gallery wall of antique pictures has been coupled with a brass bed-frame and gingham bedspread.
