A teen will most appreciate an approach to their room as their mini, self-contained apartment where they can spend most of their time comfortably. Regardless of size, a teen’s bedroom needs to be versatile enough for them to spread out and get homework done, hang with friends, lounge and sleep, all while reflecting their personality.

Every room needs a focal point, an eye-catching spot that establishes a hierarchy so you don’t see just a jumble. Many times, the focal point is the head of the bed, which you can amplify with an arrangement of bold pillows. When organizing small spaces, your eye might also be attracted to the window. Rather than let these two strong elements compete for attention, place the bed in front of the window to meld cohesively. Or, dress one element—the bed or the window—neutrally, so it recedes and the other can take center stage.

I’m so glad you could gain an idea or two from my pics! The shelving unit on top of the Trofast is another shelf from IKEA. I don’t remember which system it was from but I bet if you look at an IKEA or on their site you could find it. It was an add on shelf that I thought would work perfectly there from storing some of their larger items. My girls have adjusted to having their own space. They really like it. Though most Friday nights you will find them having a slumber party with their sister. ?

The key, in most cases, is to banish childish decor and not impose your own style ideas on your teens’ room – it’s their retreat after all, and their idea of cool decorating most likely differs from yours. If you’re concerned about their changeable tastes and desire to keep up with trends, keep the basic wall colour neutral and use cool bedroom accessories and fresh bed linen to update the space and give it personality. The other teen bedroom essential is storage – even if every parent knows how difficult it can be to get your child to clean and tidy up after themselves, neat storage systems, from shelving to wardrobes, drawers to under-bed or end-of-bed storage benches means there’s no excuse for clutter. Get this combination of style and bedroom furniture essentials right, and you might even be in your teen girl’s good books for a little while! What more could you ask for?

Finding bedroom ideas to work in the space you have isn’t always easy. You might have a small or awkward space to work with, or sloping walls that get in the way. Bedrooms need to incorporate various pieces of furniture, or built-in storage, in order to give you a relaxing place to sleep as well as hold your various possessions and clothing. But don’t worry, there’s always a bedroom design that will work with the space you have. Get inspiration from the thousands of pictures from designers and stylists on Houzz; even if you’re struggling with a small bedroom you can find space saving or decorating ideas that could work in your space.

A bright aqua bed frame pops against the lighter shade of the accent wall for a lovely color effect in this girl’s bedroom. A coral dresser is a great feminine touch while a mix of pillows adds an array of colors for a bright and fun finish.

A peppy palette of pinks and yellow-base greens is playful, but it also transitions from a toddler room idea to teen decor. The mix of patterns knows no age barrier and provides plenty of other color options for makeovers later on. For example, the soft sage or fuchsia in the bedding could easily translate into a wall color, and the room would still sport a cohesive design.

This room has this funny little corner. It works as a great place to set up a doll shop, house or barn yard. I also have hooks on the walls for her to hang up her backpack and any other bags. There are better pics of this corner and the hooks in the post I wrote about easy toy storage.

The right girl’s room decor grows with your child and calls for creativity and clever planning. Keep life simple by leaving your girl’s bedroom colors images of little girl bedrooms furniture bright and white. The neutral backdrop will blend effortlessly with any number of solids and patterns on bedding and other decor. Plus, the natural light bounces off the walls brightening the room even more. As a bonus, clean white walls keep this attic bedroom from looking cramped and tiny.

As tween girls become full-fledged teenagers, it’s likely they’ll be using their bedrooms for overnight fun with friends. Add drama and ambiance for nighttime use with vintage wall sconces. Often priced much lower than chandeliers, sconces are installed directly to walls and may need to be rewired prior to installation. To ensure safety, most interior designers recommend dropping off vintage sconces at local lamp repair shops where fixtures can be brought up to code for as little as $25.

As a teenage girl, I can honestly say that the only two rooms which appeal to me in any way are the tenth one and the last one. The rest look like a marshmallow vomited on them. Stereotypical and kinda disgusting.

A warm chocolate-brown focal wall adds an adult edge in this girl’s bedroom. To make the rich hue more playful and fitting for a young girl, HGTV fan wenbenoit integrated hot pink into the design scheme with sheer window treatments, storage ottomans and a stylish floral lamp. She kept the linens ultra-neutral to offset the bold color combination.

@Fay, that is your opinion, of course. I, however, was admiring the variety in the designs, happy that they weren’t all excessively girly, because, of course, that WOULD be stereotypical. There are girls that do like that kind of thing, however, and I thought this list was very good in portraying different styles for different people. You did find TWO that you liked, didn’t you? Each and every one wasn’t meant to suit each and every girl.

If you need to compromise on a decorating style for the master bedroom, consider colors that are neither too masculine nor too feminine. Play with patterns and textures: florals on the walls, velvet on the headboard, and striped accents.

I’m a 14 year old girl, and I am re-doing my small bedroom. None of these (with the exception of the first one) are realistic or what I’m looking for. I hate the unoriginality of the modern rooms and the pompous air in the others.

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed retreat perfect for entertaining.

While a bedroom should be pleasing to the eye it should also be comfortable too. Oftentimes, bed companions have difficulty in finding a bed that matches both their preferences. This could be because a single person needs to rise while resting while the various other likes a flatter placement for improved comfort. A split flexible bed can provide an excellent compromise that will suit the demands of both individuals.

This cottage bedroom at ‘Driftwood’  in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand was a shoot location for Laura Thomas Linens ‘Organic Bed Linen Collection’.  A space where time became irrelevant and the busy technological world we live in could be placed on hold.  The coastal style was uncluttered and the use of straw roller blinds and natural light created an atmosphere of wilderness and calm.  The incredible view could be enjoyed from the comfort of the bed.  A perfect paradise to wake up to! Image credit
