Measure the furniture and visualize or tape out where it will go so you can judge what will actually fit. Be sure to leave plenty of walking space, and double check that drawers and cabinets have enough room to open properly. When picking a spot for your bed, consider all the windows and doors. I’m the oldest girl and got the smallest room. However, it was the most private and I could easily come and go without disturbing anyone, even my light sleeping mother. I was also the only kid ever remotely responsible enough to have that room. I did cross country in fall, speech and debate in winter, and soccer in spring, plus theatre when possible. I was out early in the mornings (most, I went running at 5 am) and had nights getting home at 11:30 or later. Granted, my room was navy and black. Yes, it was a dark pit.

I have seen this image come up on my Pinterest feed a few times in the past and have always thought I would love to be lying in that bed reading a good book! I love the contrast of black and white and think it’s a clever decision to have the fur on the end of the bed so it warms up the rest of the scheme. The artwork is oversized but not overpowering and I am always drawn to a simple colour palette- in this case it’s black, white and brown with a touch of gold. It’s simple, elegant and beautiful.  Image credit
