When I began Benji’s room, it was all about getting to know him. Benji has a twin brother so I wanted to make sure when designing their rooms that their different personalities were expressed.  I soon found out that Benji’s favourite color was blue, so blue was a must. I also found out that Benji was interested in travel, the world, and had a very inquisitive mind. These two details were then the theme for my design. I used a large blue rug so that blue was prominent in his room but I didn’t want it to be dark and dreary so I chose a yellow to lift the blue and then used accents of both blue and yellow around the room. To inspire his travel goals, I added a world map on one wall and commissioned a small hand painted compass mural on another wall. I love this space as it’s light, bright, stylish and still reflects Benji’s fun, adventurous personality

When it comes to home decor and bedroom styling I like my room to depict a clean, fresh ambience and provide a good air flow. My bedroom is where I go to unwind and read and it’s important that the space correlates with my wellbeing and mood. I adore neutral coloured bedrooms, with delicate pieces of furniture and accessories. Lighting and the ambience it provides is really important and I do recommend up to three different lighting focal points within a room, ranging from ceiling lights to bedside lamps. It’s also fun to play with a variety of different lightbulbs so that you can have a choice of whether to have a bright light on or something softer to suit your mood. Cushions and throws add character to a bedroom and provide different levels of texture which can make a room fabulous. Glass tabletop terrariums do well in a partially shaded area, like on a desk in front of a window or on a graduated set of shelves against a bedroom wall. Accent the look with country-inspired wall-hangings like longhorns and guitar case shelves. Finalize the theme with a few brightly colored fabric tapestries for a country-inspired bedroom that’s every bit as fresh as the outdoors. Consider introducing fun filled low cost novelties such as bean bags in jelly beans colors, bright colored bedding, funky lamps, attractive book stands or holders, vibrant window treatments, photo frames, etc. Alternatively, you may also spruce up things by employing distinct items for decoration such as a guitar, a golf stick, skateboard, old posters, trophies and mementos, artificial plants, etc. Also ensure to spread a bright rug on the floor as it is extremely useful for doing miscellaneous tasks.{pics from decorati, pbteen}. Let’s face it, teenagers and orderly rooms are a rare combination. Messy rooms seem to be a teenager’s rite of passage. Good storage options will be the best feature they didn’t think they needed but will appreciate. Multipurposing will help a tween get much more use out of her room. To create a tween-height gathering area, consider using a coffee table in the center of the bedroom. Once guests come over, the low stature of the coffee table makes it the perfect spot to pull up a pillow and snack while playing games or reading books.
