Blogger Rachel Denbow’s kids’ room is proof that you don’t need matching beds or bedding in a shared room. An eclectic mix of furniture (particularly when as eye-catching as this large display board) can be equally as stylish.

This family home in Notting Hill was the work of Maria Speake, who along with husband Adam owns reclamation company Retrouvius. The children’s bedroom is decorated in Maria’s playful style, with bright green carpets, bold patterns and fun birch-ply shelving. The curtain fabric is by Svenskt Tenn.

Baby nurseries don’t have to be swathed in pastels and animal motifs. For a more sophisticated look, start with a foundation of warm and soothing grays, and use geometric or abstract patterns. In this nursery, a single pattern on the window treatments and bed skirt furthers the minimalist vibe. Look for ways to take advantage of every nook in a kid’s rooms. Here, a changing table tucks perfectly into a small alcove, leaving more available floor space.

All our high quality vinyl girl wall stickers are completely reusable and are perfect for temporary decoration. When your little princess feels like a change, simply remove the decals and move to another room or store them away on their original backing sheet.

Looking for a sophisticated palette that manages to be both masculine and glamorous at the same time? Then consider the combination of chocolate brown and white. Amp it up further with a small chandelier, a patterned rug and white bedding, and the result is pure splendor.

Just because your space is small does not mean your pieces can’t be large. Use a monochromatic color scheme because it creates an illusion for the eyes. Choose one color family and select variations of it for the largest parts of your rooms. Natural light will also be your friend. Use sheer window treatments or leave them off entirely. Consider furnishings that have multiple purposes. And always, create a space you love!

There’s no denying that it’s the wallpaper that makes this room. The pretty, ditzy print used to paper the whole room is combined with classic white furniture and a pale cream carpet to ensure the overall scheme is not too busy.

The room is not dull, however, thanks to a patterned headboard and exposed beams, which add interest to the space. As with many of the fabrics, cushions and rugs in her Somerset house, Sophie Hale went to Robert Kime for the floral fabric on the headboard. The ‘Susani Yellow’ linen is printed to resemble needlework and looks particularly pretty against the unpainted beams and neutral walls. It costs £210 a metre.

‘The whole time we were working on this house our aim was for things not to match too much,’ says designer David Bentheim of this scheme. Juxtaposing the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, David copied original paneling that remained in an upstairs room, and installed a screen covered in de Gournay fabric behind the thoroughly modern, metal four-poster bed. Concealed within the bespoke white chest at the bed’s foot is a flat-screen television, which is raised and lowered using remote control.

Give your daughter the royal treatment with a canopied four poster, and pick up on her interests, if she’s a music lover work in the theme (just don’t overkill it as kids can be notoriously prone to changing their minds!).

An entire room filled with bright color is too much intensity for a tiny space, but when you use a few hot shots of eye-catching color to heat up neutrals or classic black-and-white, the temperature is just right.

I think it is pretty low of you to post that you are a certain number of hacks and when we click on them we only get about half. To get the rest we have to share, REALLY? Next thing you know, we will have to pay for them. I have seen most of them and the ones I haven’t will eventually come up with no requirements. It’s not like you came up with these yourself and have exclusive rights to them,

The main bedroom of Ptolemy Dean’s Sussex newbuild is decorated in shades of blue and grey. This soothing scheme is finished with touched of dark wood. The curtains are in a floral fabric by G P & J Baker.

The bedroom of this house designed by Max Rollitt relies on a colour scheme of contrasting colours and introduces an extra layer of cosiness via the textured picture frame and bedside chest of drawers. The antique quilt was matched to ‘Jasper Peony’ wallpaper, an Adam Calkin design from Lewis & Wood, while the lampshade is made from book paper and hand-painted by artist Madeleine Bradbury, whose designs are inspired by the Bloomsbury Artists. Find it for £98 at Bloomsbury Interiors.

How about a minimalist bedroom that will wish you sweet dreams? A bedroom that pleases your senses after a long and busy day. A space that is a balm for the soul of its residents, which creates a sense of sanctuary amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A Zen space with a subtle extravagant touch in the form of a marble wall which acts as a blank canvas for other features. A focal point in a form of a cosy bed upholstered with a nice, soft fabric enriched with two asymmetric lamps giving the space an usual and interesting look. There is a large walk-in wardrobe, to the right of the bed, allowing residents to keep the space nice and tidy – perhaps apart from a couple of great books laying around here and there. But who wouldn’t love to lay down on this bed with a good read? Image credit

As tween girls become full-fledged teenagers, it’s likely they’ll be using their bedrooms for overnight fun with friends. Add drama and ambiance for nighttime use with vintage wall sconces. Often priced much lower than chandeliers, sconces are installed directly to walls and may need to be rewired prior to installation. To ensure safety, most interior designers recommend dropping off vintage sconces at local lamp repair shops where fixtures can be brought up to code for as little as $25.

I absolutely love this bedroom and it has actually inspired my own bedroom makeover. The bold use of indigo is classy and sophisticated and creates a sleep-inducing atmosphere. Blue is a very calming and soothing colour to use in the bedroom and can aid restful sleep. The use of chunky knits, Damask prints and patterned cushions adds to the cosy feel of this room. Image credit

Typically when your daughter becomes a teenager she will no longer want to have her room filled with pictures of fairies, stuffed animals, or princess decorations. Instead she will begin looking for sophisticated teenage girl room ideas and designs so she can revamp her space with more mature décor. Whether it be new bedding, a fresh coat of paint, or even updated furniture, redecorating can become costly so you may want to look for cheap room ideas for teenagers. For example, painting old furniture yourself is a quick, inexpensive, and easy way to create a new and custom look. Paint the furniture a rustic pink color and then distress it to create an elegant and vintage look that is very popular among new 2017 bedroom design trends. Other fads for a tween bedroom include bright colors, geometric wall art, and modern furniture pieces. Storage space is an essential component of all teen girl room decoration so make sure to look for shelving units, trunks, and dressers. Search our online photo galleries for images of cool teenage girl bedrooms and creative storage ideas.

For me, the bedroom is a space that needs to be calming, simple and light. I hate clutter around me when I want to sleep so the minimalism of this room appeals to me. I also want my bedroom to be as bright as possible in the morning to motivate me at the start of the day, so the white walls, bedlinen and the painted floor are the perfect combination as they allow the light to bounce around the room. I love the natural touches of the bulbs, the raw wood of the bedside table, the baskets by the fireplace and the beautiful crocheted blanket, which add touches of character to the room. This room is the perfect blank canvas for rest and relaxation. Image credit

There is a time in every girl’s life where there’s no harm in being a little OTT. Bright pink French-style furniture, upholstered button-back bed, feathers, sheep-skin, chandeliers… Pourquoi pas for the little princess?!

There are many different steps to decorating a kids room that begin with deciding on a theme and end with choosing what color you wish to adorn the walls with. Obviously you have multiple choices for decorating the walls of your childs bedroom, however the two most popular options are wallpaper and paint. While wallpaper comes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures, it tends to be a much more tedious process with more permanent results. Removing it takes a lot of time and effort, and can also damage your walls. Paint, on the other hand, does not take a lot of time to apply and can easily become a do it yourself project. Plus, as cartoon characters and games become more popular, companies are creating paint colors for girls room that are based off of popular kids shows such as Dora the Explorer and toy brands like Fischer Price. Paint a bright pink and purple girls room that has wall decals of Swiper and Boots or choose a more subtle green that is found in the popular baby brand Luv U Zoo.

In a spare room at a Belgian art collector’s London home by Feddy van Zevenbergen, the headboard is covered in a Jane Shelton fabric. The panelling was too damaged to restore, so Freddy lined the walls with a dark herringbone cashmere, which contrasts with the pale Italian marble of the bathroom behind.

Artfully display classic toys to soften the look of a neutral room and add soft furnishings such as small armchairs to delineate a play space. Create useful additional storage by adding shelves to a redundant fireplace.

Prior to this tween girl’s bedroom redesign, the walls were covered in bright lilac paint, which gave it more of a little girl’s identity. In order to make it cool enough for a tween yet classic enough for parents, the space would be painted a dark shade of violet, the dated wall-to-wall carpet would be replaced with gray-toned vinyl plank flooring and the childish furniture would be swapped out for colorful vintage pieces.

Tasked with reconciling twenty-first century living with the Victorian proportions of the terrace house, the interior designer reconfigured the ground floor and linked the spaces with modern textures and pristine finishes.

This sweet attic bedroom, which belongs to designer and House & Garden contributor Ben Pentreath, can be found at the top of his gently restored Georgian country house. The twin beds sit nicely in the small space and the cream panelling brings light to the room.

Heidi Lightfoot and Steve Gibbons own this modern, colourful Thirties house in rural Hertfordshire. Built in 1936 by the renowned public sector architect Mary Medd, Sewell’s Orchard was apparently unpopular with the locals at the time, who likened its monopitch roof and pared-back design to that of a canning factory. This is not a view shared by Heidi Lightfoot and Steve Gibbons, however, who have lived in and loved the daring modernist property for the past few years.
This bedroom in the Tudor wing of Bradwell Lodge – the perfect neoclassical country house in miniature – is decorated with ‘Regent’ wallpaper and matching blinds from Bernard Thorp. The scheme may be sweet and soothing but the room is allegedly haunted.
