Don’t be afraid of the dark! Dark colours have become really cool in interiors and bedrooms are amazing spaces to use them. This dark blue creates a really dramatic space and draws your eye to the crisp white linen and the light of the window. Image credit

Most of the time, a small bedroom means an equally small closet. A great solution to this common concern is incorporating built-in storage around the head of the bed, as in this serene space designed by Chris Ebert of Normandy Remodeling. If built-ins aren’t an option, look for bookcases that fit in the space instead.

This bedroom is within the Cotswolds home of architect Richard Parr. The chest of drawers from Bryanmawr Furniture Makers, is made from oak and compliments the simple, yet timeless feel of the bedroom. The Fifties Italian vintage shield mirror hung over the bed was bought from The Cabinet Rooms a pop-up auction with great mid-century-modern pieces.

OK so im 14 and i hav 2 share a really small room with my 11 and 16 year old sisters. We definitely cant afford any of this stuff and it wouldnt fit anyway. i think maybe you should put cheap but cute ides out there instead of all this rich kid stuff.

I have a thing about exposed brickwork in the home. Along with floorboards it gives a raw feeling. Love it. This lofty bedroom is light and airy and the sporadically placed furniture makes it a little quirky. The white palette gives a sense of tranquillity and the addition of some playful colours makes it homely and inviting too. Image credit

Even if your bedroom is small, it’s still possible to create an interesting space. This is why I love this image, as the headboard on the bed is unique and fun, and creates a real focal point. It’s a DIY project that simply needs some panels of wood and a jigsaw to cut the shape. I love how they’ve added washi tape and some images to it – meaning you can add personality, and can easily change these as the mood takes you. They’ve tied the look together subtly with the neon pink touches, but keeping the rest of the colour palette simple. Image credit

This open-plan bedroom designed by Suzy Hoodless and architect Johnny Holland of Hackett Holland, is the stuff of dreams. Wide-plank oak floorboards and geometric tiles create a division between the bedroom and a bathroom area with a free-standing ‘Vieques’ bath from Agape. Brass strips edge the fabric-fronted wardrobe wall. Graphic curtains made with fabric from Madeline Weinrib add colour to the white walls by the bed. See the rest of the house here.

My recipe for a cool children’s bedroom involves 3 main ingredients: great storage, blackboard paint and amazing lights. I love this room because it works just as well for girls as it does for boys. The rock star/monochrome theme is always age appropriate – very important because in my experience kids grow. Fast! The hip industrial vibe is den-like and softened with tactile furs, comforting checks and a cosy rug. Extra twinkling lights at ceiling height add a bit of fairytale magic and nobody grows out of sleeping under the stars, right? On the other side of this room I’d install a bank of full height cupboards to hide all the cargo that comes with every child and also has a habit of growing with them. Mini rock stars might prefer a cabin bed or bunks and some extra spots and stripes in the form of soft furnishings would provide the X factor for me. The gentle slope of the ceiling in this room in a water’s-edge cabin at Soho Farmhouse gives the space plenty of character despite the neutral decor. The metal bed frame is the only piece of non-wooden furniture, adding another texture to the room.

but i did love the vareation in room colours and layouts and i aggre with sandy she speeks with such wizdome and no afence fey but your not looking and the big picture althought you only found 2 that you liked and i l only found 3 that i liked i bet you and i didn’t like the same ones so it’s good to have a range, for everyone to look and love.

Designer Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay, the owner of this Victorian country house in Shropshire, has enhanced the interiors of this grand property with her signature mid-century aesthetic without compromising original features. The daughter’s room features striking striped wallpaper by The Art of Wallpaper and contains lots of bright, clashing patterns. This fun scheme makes for a lively space.

An entire room filled with bright color is too much intensity for a tiny space, but when you use a few hot shots of eye-catching color to heat up neutrals or classic black-and-white, the temperature is just right.

Create a simple canopy without a four-poster. Measure a piece of fabric to suspend over the length and width of the bed. Sew (or use fusible web) side panels along the corners the fabric. Suspend over the corners of the bed with hooks screwed into the ceiling.

When designer Douglas Mackie and his partner Julian Jackson bought this house in the Languedoc region of the South of France, it was a chance for Douglas – a knowledgeable collector of textiles – to show off his stock of older, ethnic pieces. ‘I have always been an avid collector of pieces from North Africa and Asia, and now their rich saturated colours sit wonderfully well in the shafts of sunlight of a southern home.’ In the spare bedroom a Persian jajim hangs against the brush-plastered wall in place of a headboard. On the floor is a vintage Moroccan rug, while the bed linen is from Conran.

Add an additional surround to your headboard, painted in a contrasting colour to further frame your bed. We particular love the addtion of the pictures – hung off centre, they are far more interesting.
