Two headboards? Why not? We love the idea of reusing some reclaimed wood to make a headboard (see how to make one out of old doors here) and then placing another headboard in a different material in front of it (this one is from Zara Home). Very original.

A gauzy, ceiling-hung canopy is a nice touch to a girl’s bedroom decor. Not only does it give this twin bed princesslike appeal, it also adds interesting height to the corner of the room. Simple, casual furnishings in neutral hues allow your little girl’s decorating style to change easily as she grows. Clever storage space below the bed make clean-up after play time a breeze and teach her the values of organization.

Wonderful ideas, and great tips. Beautiful decors. Wonder if you could share more ideas for tables for studying. I don’t like big tables I just would like to have a space where they can do their homework but don’t take up too much space. Thank you.

On the Caribbean island of Mustique, interior designer Veere Grenney has redesigned a bamboo house that is a study in neutrals and natural materials. The main bedroom, in a pavilion, has a bed from Soane. Green fabrics complete the room’s natural design while adding another colour to the simple scheme.

Stylist Alexander Breeze’s bedroom is painting in a very matt yet rich grey-green: ‘Olive’ by Farrow & Ball. He bought an inexpensive bed and painted it himself. The striking plywood headboard was designed by Breeze and made with the help of bespoke laser cutting service Cut Laser Cut.

A foundation of sleek white offers a modern look for this girl’s room, while vivid sherbet green and lipstick pink add youthful personality. While a two-color scheme is simple, sometimes adding a third color can make a kid’s room sing. This also lets you incorporate a favorite, of-the-moment color. In this girl’s bedroom idea, bedding with the room’s pink and green scheme features a bit of blue, which also makes a splash on the storage boxes atop the dresser.

Tween girls are known for taking a major interest in fashion. Play up the runway by using fashion fabrics for her room’s upholstery. While this pair of Louis armchairs is upholstered in violet velvet, it’s made fresh with pillows sewn from women’s dress fabric in a flame-stitch pattern.

A hanging statement light, like a chandelier, can really pull together a bedroom and give the eye a focal point. The crystal accents in this chandelier add an interesting element of light and texture when contrasted with the wood flooring and bed frame.

When I began Benji’s room, it was all about getting to know him. Benji has a twin brother so I wanted to make sure when designing their rooms that their different personalities were expressed.  I soon found out that Benji’s favourite color was blue, so blue was a must. I also found out that Benji was interested in travel, the world, and had a very inquisitive mind. These two details were then the theme for my design. I used a large blue rug so that blue was prominent in his room but I didn’t want it to be dark and dreary so I chose a yellow to lift the blue and then used accents of both blue and yellow around the room. To inspire his travel goals, I added a world map on one wall and commissioned a small hand painted compass mural on another wall. I love this space as it’s light, bright, stylish and still reflects Benji’s fun, adventurous personality

The owner of this Kensington apartment is Sofia Barattieri di San Pietro, who conceived and masterminded upmarket fashion website Motilo. She wanted to create a glamorous, ‘international’ look with an art-deco flavour in her home, which she achieved with the shared vision and cultural understanding of interior designer Paolo Moschino (they are both Italian). The main bedroom is decorated mainly in cream and white, with brass accents in the bedside tables and the Fifties lamps by Maison Charles; the print above the bed is by Gary Hume. The adjoining bathroom is furnished in a similar cream and brass scheme; ‘I am so tired of chrome,’ Paolo explains.

A gorgeous pale pink and grey colour scheme and the sweetest textiles. We’ll also be stealing the idea of the bird foot prints, which run across the floor and bed, up the wall and out the window: perfect for sparking a child’s imagination.

Many people believe that a small room has to be painted white or a very pale pastel, but in reality, dark colors make the walls visually recede, increasing the perceived size of the space. And if that isn’t reason enough to consider going dark on your walls, then just take a look at the sophistication, serenity, and beauty of the deep purple walls here. Dark gray, navy or indigo blue, or dusky dark green are equally restful and lovely.

I really like these rooms I’m trying to design my daughters room because we are moving soon and i think the book shelfs are a great idea to store small things and big things without taking up space so thanks!!!!!

Richard Taylor and Rick Englert have built a Jacobean-style manor at Whithurst Park in Sussex. It took a year to get planning permission and two more to build. The result bears some of the signatures of the prodigy houses built in the era, such as Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire and Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. This spare bedroom on the second floor has a four-poster canopy bed and moulded fireplace in keeping with the manor’s Jacobean look.

The small bedroom of this Georgian flat designed by Ben Pentreath is filled with an antique wood four-poster bed. Simple sisal flooring is a practical and warm choice for the floor. The window is covered with a Svenskt Tenn blind.

Take a leaf out of the Vidago Palace Hotel in Portugal’s book by mixing masculine (sleek, heavy furniture and dark colours) and feminine design elements (pastels, fresh flowers) for a beautifully balanced room that’s strong, yet oh-so chic.

Hey Ashley! That is super exciting! Try searching recycled crafts on our site for some ideas. Also, remember that you can paint or spray paint pretty much anything to make it match your color scheme. Hope that helps a little!

For Emma Bridgewater and her husband Matthew Rice, a shared desire to preserve skills and traditions has influenced their booming ceramics business, as well as the restoration of their farmhouse and barn in Oxfordshire. As seen here, the bedroom retains the original stonework.

The bedroom furniture in Steffanie Brown’s west London home is a mix of modern and vintage. The 1940s bedside tables come from Interior Eden, while the chair is from B&B Italia. Stephanie owns Notting Hill-based jewellers Laviandbelle, and used decorator Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay to help design her modern family home.

Hannah Cecil Gurney’s west London flat is a feast of luxurious colour, texture and pattern – little surprise given that her father founded the handmade wallpaper company de Gournay. In the main bedroom hand-painted silk cushions and a Burmese lamp pick up on the green in the ‘Badminton’ wallpaper from de Gournay, which ‘provides a cocoon of birds and butterflies that makes [Hannah] so happy’. The paper has been antiqued in order to give a tarnsihed effect.

Many little girl’s bedroom themes can be loud or trendy rather than timeless. If you’d rather avoid them, look for more subtle ways to incorporate a child’s interests or hobbies. For a ballet enthusiast, dress the room in shades of pink, plenty of ruffles, and a few nods to her passion, such as a display of tutus and a piece of art, rather than a whole ballet-slipper bedding set and suite of accessories.

All our high quality vinyl girl wall stickers are completely reusable and are perfect for temporary decoration. When your little princess feels like a change, remove the decals and move to another room or store them away on their original backing sheet.

If you have trouble getting to sleep at night, then you might want to stick with restful neutral tones, combined with soft lighting. If, on the other hand, you find it hard to propel yourself out of bed in the morning, then it’s a good idea to opt for a bright, cheery colour that will make you eager to start the day. Pale hues can be used to open up a small bedroom and create a sense of space, but if the room is chilly or north-facing, then blue-greys should be avoided in favour of warmer tones. When selecting a bedroom wallpaper, dense, busy patterns and a strident palette can work against a restful, calming atmosphere, so it’s a good idea to stick to designs that are are more quiet and subtle.

In a girl’s bedroom with plenty of bold colors and prints, scale back the wall color to invite serenity into the space. Look for a white with undertones of a color used in the room. Here, a white with a pink cast provides a break in the action while blending with the room’s cheeky pink accents. The little girl’s bedroom furniture provides a stark difference to the pastel walls.
