Transform a nursery into a bedroom by introducing striped wallpaper and a patterned window treatment, such as this butterfly blind and matching voile canopy. The adorable doll’s house shelf finishes off the style.

By choosing fabrics and furnishings in luxurious styles and textures, designer Judith Balis crafted an ultra-glam room that’s both timeless and on trend. To keep the chic side tables from becoming cluttered, she opted for stylish hanging globe light fixtures instead of traditional table lamps.

A rainbow of bright hues shines through this room and touches everything from pillows to walls. When using a strong palette of colors, repeat a particular element to create a sharp look. In this room, circles take the leading role, appearing on bedding, walls, the rug, and artwork. Also use a neutral color, such as white, for furniture, to soften bold colors.

i like the rooms I just feel like a lot of them are girly when not all girls are all about the pink and lacy frill thing. i also looked at the boys rooms and i liked more of those than i did of these–but the one i really liked on this was the one with the ladder that led to this cool loft thing–it would need to be a different color but it was pretty cool 🙂

Designers Cécile Figuette and Frédéric Bonnin of French brand Minakani Lab create wallpaper and panoramas that are larger-than-life, with motifs that repeat randomly and compositions that are light and airy. Printed in Paris, the wallpaper is printed to the client’s wall dimensions and some can be adapted to your own colour scheme. ‘The Wild’ (pictured here) is inspired by Douanier Rousseau and illustrated by hand in black and white. The entire wall decor is priced at €900, or is available in three parts for €300 each.

It’s rare for interior designers to act as their own clients, but that’s how Karen Howes decided to tackle the refurbishment of a run-down basement flat of a purpose-built 1901 London block. She briefed the team at Taylor Howes Designs, leaving the property as a building site while she went on a three-week trip to China and returned to find it finished. In the spare bedroom, she opted for a ‘Kazak’ roman blind by Tissus d’Hélène the blues of which tie into the bedroom’s artwork and contrasts with the orange desk chair, colours which run throughout the home.

The color white is an expansive and practical choice for a small bedroom. It keeps the space from looking too busy or boxed in. Using white or lighter colors combats the absence of large wall space or windows to brighten up the space.

I wanted this nursery to be a tranquil yet timeless space. The combination of subtle greys, soft pinks and white furniture is timeless and effortlessly stylish and ensures longevity. Taking inspiration from the vintage wallpaper tree art, I have accented this with brighter pinks and lime greens to punctuate the scheme and add freshness. The cotton curtains, have a playful embroidered band across the bottom featuring cats and birds, adding interest and fun to the scheme and contrasting well with the brighter pink linen blind. There is a useful mix of both open and closed storage. Contemporary pieces (such as the bunny nightlight and the grey acrylic storage stool) are mixed with vintage finds (including the wallpaper used for the tree and the antique children’s books) to create a unique room and one that complements the of the home. A sweet sanctuary.

This scheme was put together by House & Garden’s Ruth Sleightholme. The Modern Scandinavian bedroom is complemented with this walnut bed, ‘Companions’, by Ilse Crawford for De La Espada, 110 x 215 x 200cm, £4,386, at The Conran Shop.

In the main bedroom in Hannah Cecil Gurney’s London flat has hand-painted silk cushions and a Burmese lamp pick up on the green in the ‘Badminton’ wallpaper by de Gournay, the wallpaper company her father founded in 1986.

A charming mix of antique textiles and a curtainless four-poster bed designed by Max Rollitt, make up the focal point of this London bedroom. Find a similar bedspread at the Antique Textiles Company or commission Cassandra Ellis to design and make one bespoke.

I adore white painted walls and then really experimenting with pattern and colour in the soft furnishings and bedroom accessories. Floral patterns are always a favourite of mine for a feminine look and the brighter the colours the better. The informal group of pretty postcards fixed with washi tape is super cute and I like being able to easily change the display to suit my mood and the season. The look is a little bit granny chic so suits my love of hunting for eclectic items in charity shops. Even on a dull day this bedroom would cheer me up. Image credit

This seating area for a bedroom, which is part of a scheme created by our decoration director Gabby Deeming in a rustic Dutch farmhouse, has a botanical theme. The backdrop is set by ‘Deep Celadon Green’ paint from Papers and Paints, £38.40 for 2.5 litres matt emulsion, which picks out the other shades of green in the hand-printed wallpaper ‘Iznik GM’ (crotte d’elephant), 100cm wide, €233 a metre, from Emery & Cie.

Even if your bedroom is small, it’s still possible to create an interesting space. This is why I love this image, as the headboard on the bed is unique and fun, and creates a real focal point. They’ve tied the look together subtly with the neon pink touches, but keeping the rest of the colour palette simple. Image credit

‘We loved the cool, pared-down style of a house belonging to a Swedish art collector, which we had seen in a magazine,’ say the owners of this west-London terrace home. Enter Hugh Leslie whose unmistakable style gradually evolved the house into a smart family home. At the front of the house on the first floor is the pretty, generously proportioned main bedroom. Its walls are lined with the same buff-pink linen (‘Prelle Toile Barbare’ fabric by Alton Brooke) as the pelmets and the curtains, which adds an extra touch of glamour to the room. Behind it is the en-suite bathroom, with simple panelling, hand-built units and a walk-in shower lined in teak, which feels a bit like entering a first-class compartment on a vintage train.
