Redesigning your bedroom doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. Sometimes a tweak, like new bedding or lighting hanging pictures or a new headboard, can make a dramatic difference. So take a look at these easy-to-steal bedroom decorating ideas…

If there’s one thing that makes a bedroom, it’s soft bedding you can see yourself burrowing into. Get that right, then add a striking pendant light and statement nightstand for a look that’s the epitome of effortless style.

This bedroom in Shoreditch House by Soho House is decorated in a neutral and stylish scheme with red features. Panelling makes the space cosy; painted in light grey, it doesn’t shrink the already small space.

I don’t know about you, but I find that having non-themed rooms in my home is essential to the ever-changing needs of family life. What’s more, themed rooms spells hotel. And do we want to live in a soulless hotel? Thought not. Ask yourself, as children grow out of their beds, share with a sibling or move rooms, could their ‘old’ room be adapted as a snug, study or dining room? The littlies’ needs change so much and so quickly in those first few years, it really makes sense to go for a scheme that is multi-purpose but, most importantly, timeless. Turn convention on its head and experiment. This Farrow & Ball wide stripe is supposed to be hung vertically but I couldn’t resist flipping it ninety degrees. For furniture, see what you can find in flea markets and slap a coat of paint over it, or rummage around in local auction houses. Brown furniture is still well-priced and besides, it is so much more fun for a child to be grabbing their clothes out of an old chest of drawers that has a story to tell, than an identikit piece, hot off the production lines from China. Although they will only appreciate it (there’s always hope) when they move out, taking their ‘old friend’ with them. The overall effect is much more personal and full of character, which is what makes a home your home.

The owners of this newbuild Bahamas beach house turned to trusted interior designer John McCall to provide their house with a British sensibility, practical furnishings and interiors that are not ‘too beachy’. In this bedroom white walls, ceiling, carpet and bedding is brought to life with patterned blinds, headboards and a colourful rug. All of the patterns are different, introducing an element of fun and vacation spirit.

Although professional framing comes with added expense, it’s an excellent way to help a youth-oriented space feel less juvenile and more grown-up. Instead of tacking the original paper directly to the wall, it was instead placed inside a floating-style frame with coordinating mat. When framing pieces for tween’s rooms, always consider durability and safety. Instead of gallery glass, this piece is protected with acrylic, which is kid-friendly and shatterproof.

This cosy bedroom at Soho Farmhouse features green floral wallpaper, creating a countryside feel. Matching curtains a cosy canopy around the four-poster bed. This design is ideal for a small space.

Sometimes, words of encouragement are exactly what you need to start the day smiling. Hang our wall art lettering up and remind yourself to stay happy as you shine through your day. Bling it up with flashy glitter letters in sayings like peace, or take it down a notch and just hang your name on the back of your bedroom door. Some options, like our heart-shaped cabinet, provide functionality too.

wow, thanks for this post. I like the one with the stairs. It’s almost the same picture I have in mind years ago but never given a chance to have it in real picture. Anyway, happy to drop by and see your posts.

The bedroom of designer Kim Wilkie’s London flat features a bed from Heal’s and two sash windows, which allow light to pour into the room. The artichoke artwork above the bed (from the Hortus Eystettensis codex) highlights the green of the bed cover.

The bedroom is a place when you should be able to relax, rest and sleep well. The space therefore should be simple, clean and uncluttered. Ban all the unnecessary items and focus on the essentials – comfy pillows, soft bedding, good light for reading, and small bedside table to keep your books and water carafe. Create a space where you can rest your eyes and calm your mind, and it means white walls and no busy patterns. I am drawn to this bedroom because of the colour palette – all in soft brown tones. There is a feeling of calm and the crumpled linen looks very inviting. The only decoration it needs is a single artwork on the wall. The beauty here is in simplicity. Image credit

Don’t be fearful of brights in the bedroom, they can look fantastic, but we suggest keeping strong hues to a feature wall behind the bed and choosing a softer, more calming colour for the rest of the room.

Bobo Kids is a one stop shop for the very coolest childrens’ furniture and accessories. Combine fun modern furniture with a vintage style blackboard, some cute prints, bunting and bed linen and you have a child’s bedroom that any self-respecting adult would be very envious of.

i like the rooms I just feel like a lot of them are girly when not all girls are all about the pink and lacy frill thing. i also looked at the boys rooms and i liked more of those than i did of these–but the one i really liked on this was the one with the ladder that led to this cool loft thing–it would need to be a different color but it was pretty cool ?

Investing in some bedroom wall art? Use the colours in the painting as the starting point for a decorating theme. Simply get some paint charts and fabric swatches, and match the colours you love in the picture.

A dresser with mismatched drawers provides a fun storage solution in this boy’s bedroom, where grey walls provide a neutral backdrop for unusual design details. A ‘Love’ rug by Paul Smith, hanging model airplane and car print on the wall also add interest.

Another great colour combination, the fresh apple green walls are set off perfectly by the rich raspberry curtain. Both colours are referenced in the pretty rug and bed linen, but furniture is kept uniformed so as not to over complicate the scheme.

A good desk is a must! This will be the centre point of a girl’s teen life! From homework and study to using as a dressing table, find a desk with drawer storage for books and supplies but also for hair care, a mirror and beauty essentials. Choosing a white desk option will suit any bedroom scheme, is low cost and easy to maintain. Personal space is so important as a teen, so add her own style in accessorising a funky chair design, a bright pattern blanket and some colourful desk tidies and that’s one cool combination of a desk and dressing table design! As a teenage girl, I can honestly say that the only two rooms which appeal to me in any way are the tenth one and the last one. The rest look like a marshmallow vomited on them. Stereotypical and kinda disgusting.

  1. A favorite poem becomes art in this little girl’s room. And you don’t have to be an artist to create your own word art. Look for stencils and wall decals at crafts stores and online. Make sure the color of the lettering contrasts with the wall color to ensure your message will read loud and clear.
Keep the overall palette calm and soft with different shades of warm grey on the walls, floor and furniture. A burst of yellow on the pillowcases and occasional bedroom chair keep the look vibrant without becoming too much. Embroidered and patterned cushions in black and white are a pretty finishing touch.
