I absolutely love this bedroom and it has actually inspired my own bedroom makeover. The bold use of indigo is classy and sophisticated and creates a sleep-inducing atmosphere. Blue is a very calming and soothing colour to use in the bedroom and can aid restful sleep. This is a bedroom we designed for Jaeden. It’s my favourite because it was transformed from a dull, and dark room to a bright, fresh and fun space! The room has subtle educational elements such as coloured 3D numbers and the hexagonal shaped shelving. During installation, Jaeden who was 3 at the time, learnt what a hexagon was. The book ledges are great for easy access to his books. He was fascinated by the monkeys which hung over his bed and referred to them as ‘monkeys jumping on the bed’. The room is practical with a trundle bed for future sleepovers. It has the quirky Kartell Componibili storage which acts as a bedside table. The walls are a neutral blue/grey that creates the perfect canvas for the pops of colour or allows for an easy makeover by changing the soft furnishings.

Before you buy a new furniture set, be sure to consider the bedroom size. Even though you might need three dressers and two nightstands in your bedroom, you might not have the space for them. Measure the furniture and visualize or tape out where it will go so you can judge what will actually fit. Be sure to leave plenty of walking space, and double check that drawers and cabinets have enough room to open properly. When picking a spot for your bed, consider all the windows and doors. Placing a bed underneath a window or close to the door can be a bad idea, especially for light sleepers, as even the smallest crack of light can cause sleep disturbance.

Why I love this room: I’m a great believer in the ‘tidy home, tidy mind’ ethos, which is why I feel so at home with light, minimal spaces. This bedroom has only essential furniture in it and bright white walls to make the most of the light. Texture is key, from the bedding and rugs to the Z1 cotton lamp. I love the use of the small potted plants here, adding life and a splash of vibrant green to the room. The light wood flooring breaks up the white to introduce some warmth and the suspended clothes rails make a statement without the need to take up floor space. Image credit

I was drawn to this space initially because of the use of pattern and colour in the cushions.  The navy blue and mustard hues are an intriguing but very complementary pairing; with the pattern visually lifting the entire space.  The warmth of the earthy tone-on-tone colour palette has soothing atmospheric qualities: perfect for a bedroom.  But the showstopper is the seamless incorporation of industrial inspired design via the vintage wall lighting.  An excellent illustration of how urban styling can be blended into a space without appearing too harsh or cold. It doesn’t take much to set an exotic style, so a small room is perfect for a global look like the Moroccan showstopper here. Just three elements – the silver pendants, the silver pouf, and the fantastic bed – are all it takes. If none of those are within your reach, consider adding an exotic throw pillow or two to your bed.

In this guest bedroom, I wanted to create a fresh, but calm atmosphere. I’m a big believer that “less is more”, so I kept the styling to the minimum. White walls and crisp black and white bed linen give an airy feel to the room. The photos on top of the bed add a splash of colour that I believe is needed in every room. Yet the colours are not too vibrant to break the tranquil atmosphere. Colour and wooden details soften the overall look and make the room more inviting. All in all, it’s a bedroom in very Scandinavian style: minimalist and relaxed, made for living. Image credit

Not all teens are blessed with the biggest of bedrooms, and it’s not always simple switching up from a children’s room to a more adult space. This attic bedroom does a great job of crossing that divide, with a cool Scandi style that makes the most of the available space with a raised built-in cabin bed, with storage below and in the alcove beyond… leaving the rest of the room free for your teen’s wardrobe (ideally not scattered across the newly-freed-up floor). The wood cladding keeps the bedroom calm and enhances the sense of space – essential in a teen girl’s room – while colourful bed linen can be used to add personality and flair.
