One of the most popular color schemes for a preteen girl’s bedroom is pink, white, and black. Take one look at the room shown here and you’ll see why: it’s the perfect blend of sophistication, innocence, and quirkiness. Stick with black and white on the flooring and the furniture, and you can easily change the theme if your daughter eventually decides she’s too old for pink.

Bed is chanting my name tonight. Chet is cutting all four back molars and that results in a very tired household. Plus we had to say goodbye to daddy this morning and drive him to the airport at crazy-o-clock Also congratulations to Eve and the

(As proof, check out the elegant bedroom from Laura Stein Interiors shown here.) The trick to creating a lovely bedroom when square footage is limited is to make smart use of the space you do have, keep furnishings scaled to the room, and most of all, not be afraid to show off your decorating chops.

Despite several attempts at finding the perfect paint colour, designer Fiona Parke and owner Bodil Blain settled on ‘New Silver’ from Sanderson. A soft gold headboard, chevron throw and pink patterned cushions add personality to the soft, oh so chic scheme.

While adults prefer a space that’s calm and understated, teens appreciate vibrantly colored, high energy rooms. The wall is the biggest area you can work with in a bedroom. Some of the best teen bedroom ideas involve the walls. Here are our favorite:

Jane Sacchi recounts the experiences of updating a twelfth-century tower in Florence, with her husband, architect Bruno Sacchi. ‘It took three years to transform it into an exceptional family home, during which period Bruno often wandered about with a hammer and chisel picking plaster off the walls to expose the frescoes.’

Measuring just 90 square metres, this home to a family of five in Chelsea, London, makes use of every inch of space. Designed by Eve Mercier, the small kids’ bedroom features two broad, wall-mounted benches (underneath the loft bed) that are easily transformed into beds (bedlinen is concealed below), while a third, drawer bed slides out when needed. ‘We wanted a versatile space that could easily be converted into a study if necessary,’ explains Eve. A circular, frosted window overlooks the bathroom.

When designing a bedroom, the most obvious place to start is with the bed. After all, without a good bed, it’s difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Make sure you choose the right size bed for the size of your bedroom. A super king size bed will dominate a small bedroom, making it difficult to move around the space or fit in any other bedroom furniture, while a standard double bed might look a bit lost a large bedroom. Measure your bedroom, and make sure the bed you choose will allow for at least 70cm of circulation space around the sides and end of the bed.

All our high quality vinyl girl wall stickers are completely reusable and are perfect for temporary decoration. When your little princess feels like a change, simply remove the decals and move to another room or store them away on their original backing sheet.

Unless you have a budget that permits new furniture every few years, you’ll want to choose a bedroom set that grows up with your daughter. The room shown here is delightful now — what young girl wouldn’t love all the polka dots and the wonderful dog poster?  — but the basic white furniture will have no problem handling a more mature palette, bedding, and accessories when the teen years arrive.

Here in the main bedroom, previously the banqueting hall, the crest of the Peruzzi family, bankers to Henry III and subsequently to Henry VIII, cover the walls. The Torre pre-dates Chaucer, Brunelleschi’s Duomo and Michelangelo’s David.

Next, think about what mood you want to evoke. Do you have trouble sleeping? Maybe opt for a calming blue. Do you want to set the mood for romance with your partner? Fuller, darker colours may be a better match then. Consider if you want to have a TV in your bedroom. If yes, do you want it on display or hidden? Or maybe you want to have a little office within your bedroom? You may be better off styling with neutral colours, but putting emphasis on the right inspiring artwork. In that case, you may also need to think of smart storage solutions so you can keep your workspace tidy and not let it interfere with your sleep. The first-floor bedroom of architect Jonathan Tuckey’s seventeenth-century chalet holiday home in the Swiss Alps is ideal for children to share (Jonathan has two daughters), thanks to a pair of fifties rosewood beds from Modernistiks.

The vintage photos and beautiful wooden bed (with a built-in bookcase, natch) isn’t the only reason this is a dream bedroom. Designer Robin Callan created a chic, Paris-style bedroom by creating pint-sized elegance among a playful pink and green color palette. Coordinate fabrics of various textures and patterns to create a look that is both visually appealing and eye-catching. For Richard Hanlon, the plan to buy a holiday home in India with his friend Trish McFarlane led to the ambitious construction of Bujera Fort, now a spectacular palace hotel in Udaipur. Arriving today, up the rutted track that leads out of Bujera village, it is difficult to believe that this beautiful building, its outer walls frothing with white bougainvillea, was only recently finished. A bedroom is decorated with traditional Indian furniture combined with English fabrics such as the floral chintz on the headboard.

A girls bedroom furniture is an essential component of the design. You can choose from a wide variety of furniture pieces that are specifically created for little girls or search for pieces that can be used when she is a teenager and adult. For example, a dresser with an attached mirror will look attractive in your daughters when she is young but will become useful as she matures into an adolescent and starts wearing makeup. Similarly a trundle bed will last for many years in a small girls room and provide an extra place for your daughter’s friends to sleep when she has slumber parties. It is also perfect for a shared girls room because it can be tucked away during the day to free up space in the room. Other small room design ideas that will save space try searching for pretty white bunk beds or a lofted bed which you can put a desk or dresser underneath. When she is older she can even put a futon underneath for a fun place to hang out with her friends.

Using a chic modernist pallet of bold colours creates a light and inviting bedroom scene. The walls are covered in ‘Weathered Walls’ by Maya Romanoff at Pierre Frey with a bold patterned curtain from ‘Jardin d’Osier’ silk at Hermès. The mirror from The Conran Shop creates an added depth to the room, and makeshift bedside storage.

I have always been very fond of vintage style – purely because of the character it brings to the room. What I love most about this room is first of all the white floor – very Scandinavian, the fireplace, the bed and last but not least; the floral bedding and curtains – adding life to the room. I can be here all day long, only thing that’s missing are French doors that open out to a cute balcony! Image credit

Make tidying up more fun with pretty fabric storage boxes slotted into a white-painted unit. A large scale wall sticker picks up on the colours of the boxes to turn the storage area into a focal point.
