Silver, gold and bronze touches in the bedroom one of Sarah Stewart-Smith’s daughters at their family home in Herefordshire. I stayed at the Ludlow Hotel in New York’s Lower East Side last October and I instantly fell in love with my room. This bedroom is within the Cotswolds home of architect Richard Parr. The chest of drawers from Bryanmawr Furniture Makers, is made from oak and compliments the simple, yet timeless feel of the bedroom. When it came to designing this Chelsea home, Stephen Eicker most enjoyed working on this bedroom, belonging to the owner’s two sons, aged three and six. His starting point was the eldest’s obsession with trains, and this led him to the wallpaper by The New Yorker cartoonist Saul Steinberg, which he teamed with a turquoise carpet with red-and-white fabrics. In the main bedroom in Hannah Cecil Gurney’s London flat has hand-painted silk cushions and a Burmese lamp pick up on the green in the ‘Badminton’ wallpaper by de Gournay, the wallpaper company her father founded in 1986.

The Argentinian architect Mario Cannio has created a play on stripes in his bedroom, with shades of olive green and red, and an indigo-dyed bed cover. Despite her classical aesthetic, Gytha has incorporated more modern touches in the flat. She opted against cornicing in favour of a cleaner finish and enhanced the New York loft effect by painting all the window frames dark brown.
