When it comes to feng shui bedrooms, a free-flowing layout is crucial. The ideal placement for your bed is as far away from the door as possible, but still in a position that lets you see the entrance; usually, the corner diagonally across from the door is the best spot. Try and avoid having your head under a window due to the ebb and flow of energy going in and out; this causes disturbed and interrupted sleep. Do not position your bed so as to have your feet point out the door while you’re sleeping; this is called the “Death Position” as the deceased are carried out feet first, and sleeping this way is said to drain your life force.

Look for ways to make your small bedroom special. Decorate a bedroom with punchy fabrics and expressive patterns. Choose interesting lighting, such as a charming chandelier or sculptural table lamps. For a small bedroom idea that makes a statement, try an unusual headboard: Pick one that is extra tall, brightly upholstered, or curvy. And use artwork to show off your personality. It doesn’t have to be pricey — framed snapshots will do. Remember, this is the most personal space in your home, so decorate a bedroom with what makes you happy.

Get a girly bedroom look, without going overboard on the pink palette that, if used in excess, can make a space look childish. Here a soft cherry-blossom pink is tempered by a neutral geometric wallpaper that stops half way up the wall, loose florals on white backdrops and soft fabric elements – such as the upholstered bed and cushions – in saturated colours.

This is a bedroom we designed for Jaeden. It’s my favourite because it was transformed from a dull, and dark room dark teal home accessories a bright, fresh and fun space! The room has subtle educational elements such as coloured 3D numbers and the hexagonal shaped shelving. During installation, Jaeden who was 3 at the time, learnt what a hexagon was. The book ledges are great for easy access to his books. He was fascinated by the monkeys which hung over his bed and referred to them as ‘monkeys jumping on the bed’. The room is practical with a trundle bed for future sleepovers. It has the quirky Kartell Componibili storage which acts as a bedside table. The walls are a neutral blue/grey that creates the perfect canvas for the pops of colour or allows for an easy makeover by changing the soft furnishings.

For shared bedrooms where the occupants don’t see eye to eye on color, find one hue that appeals to both parties and let each choose an accent color. For multi-hue schemes, include plenty of white to tame the color confluence, like the white furniture in this cute girl bedroom idea.

I agree that these rooms are unrealistic and too perfect. I’m currently trying to re-decorate my room and none of the above were helpful in providing even the slightest inspiration. Most of them are twice the size of my room; and alot of the furniture just wouldn’t fit. If anyone has pictures of rooms that are smaller and something do-able, let me know.

Art is often overlooked in children’s and tween’s rooms; however, it can completely change the space and serve as a source of inspiration for the rest of the decor. This room was designed for a tween who was named after legendary bluegrass singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams. Commissioning an artist to draw an original portrait of the singer and having it professionally framed not only added a feeling of individuality to the room, it served as the inspiration for the room’s violet, black, white and gold palette.

Wake up an old desk set with a fresh coat of paint, and add in a mirror to create an instant vanity. The top of the desk can hold a large spread of beauty accouterments as well as books, a laptop, and a notebook for study time. Add a few final touches by reupholstering the chair and decorating with girly accents.

Designer Liz Carroll kicked off the creation of this bright and happy space when she laid eyes on a bolt of look-at-me, indoor/outdoor Trina Turk fabric. She knew it would be perfect for the custom headboard, and “it informed everything else in the room.
