As much as possible, Anne-Marie tried to match the wall colours to those that her grandmother had used, keeping the bedrooms the same subtle colours, while adding ‘ribbons’ of colour to outline the architecture and ‘dress the room’.
I really like these rooms I’m trying to design my daughters room because we are moving soon and i think the book shelfs are a great idea to store small things and big things without taking up space so thanks!!!!!
The bedroom of artists Linda and David Heathcoat-Amory is a graceful high-ceilinged cube. To the left of the four-poster bed hangs a Pissarro drawing; the painted pale-blue and white stripes on the walls were inspired by the photographer Derry Moore’s house.
My belief is that a bedroom should be clean and simple. We spend so much time in our bedrooms trying to unwind from the day. That’s why we should create a serene space for ourselves. This bedroom is both serene and cool. The black and white palette proves that you don’t have to have a lot of colour to stand out. Image credit
A good place to start is our gallery below of bedroom decorating ideas for every style and budget, or if you’re all about modern bedrooms, ready to try traditional bedrooms or love rustic style and want to see country bedrooms, we’ve got those too.
This room has a beautiful vintage/industrial style. A bedroom to me is a place to rest and to surround myself with calmness. This needs to be reflected in the decor. Nothing should draw too much attention. It needs to be laid back, full of natural materials, casual and cosy.
If you are going to opt for minimalism in only one room in your house, that room should be the bedroom. No distractions for relaxation and a perfect nights sleep. Although this white bedroom scheme is definitely minimalist, I like the fact it has warmth due to the herringbone floor and interest added with the contemporary four poster. The simple bedding looks luxurious too and I would be more than happy to take a nap between those sheets. Image credit
The bedroom furniture in Steffanie Brown’s west London home is a mix of modern and vintage. The 1940s bedside tables come from Interior Eden, while the chair is from B&B Italia. Stephanie owns Notting Hill-based jewellers Laviandbelle, and used decorator Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay to help design her modern family home.
Maria Speake of Retrouvius the ‘slightly unimaginative’ oak flooring of this home to transform the basement into a cheerful playroom for the kids. The mix of mid-century influences with bright colour is proof that grown-up tastes can still be child friendly.
The main bedroom of Ptolemy Dean’s Sussex newbuild is decorated in shades of blue and grey. This soothing scheme is finished with touched of dark wood. The curtains are in a floral fabric by G P & J Baker.
This bedroom in the South of France decorated by Samantha Todhunter includes all the best elements of a bedroom and sitting room combined. The armchairs are covered in ‘La Fiorentina’, from the David Hicks by Ashley Hicks collection for Groundworks at Lee Jofa. The pretty pale blue curtains are in ‘Ipeka Nuage’ linen from Lelievre.
Amazing collection Emily! Among all, the design of Alina Isaev is the one that captured my attention the most. Perfect combination of simplicity and elegance, this is what I want my dream room to look like.
Architect Francesca Oggioni had to set aside her rationalist principles when she was planning a new layout for her listed house in west London, so it would work as a family home, workspace and backdrop for an extensive art collection. What do you do if your aesthetic is Italian modernist but you have just purchased a six-floor Grade II-listed Victorian town house in west London? This was the dilemma that faced Italian architect and interior designer Francesca Oggioni six years ago when she purchased her home with her Belgian husband, a hedge-fund manager, photographer and art collector.
This is a cute and colourful girl’s room with a nice and comfortable bunk bed. The floral wall paper is beautiful charging the room with positivity. The heart-shaped mirror and the lamp on the side table looks wonderful.
This bedroom, belonging to designer Harriet Anstruther’s 22-year-old daughter, continues the stripped back theme of the restored farmhouse while adding sophisticated elements such as the chandelier and canopy bed.
When it comes to bedroom furniture essentials, you will need a bedside table or nightstand (two if you are sharing your bedroom), a dressing table, a full-length mirror, and clothes storage in the form of a wardrobe, chest of drawers or both. If you have the space, a bedroom chair or end-of-bed bench is an added bonus, giving you somewhere to drape clothes or sit while you’re putting on your socks and shoes.
Designer William Yeoward’s takeover of our June style pages, to celebrate the anniversary of his company, yielded a timeless scheme that celebrated his work past and present. In a room painted Farrow & Ball’s ‘Card Room Green’, an Eighteenth century screen from Hollyhock works in a similar manner to a mural. The bespoke tented cupboard was created by Clock House Furniture from William Yeoward at Designers Guild fabric. The chest of drawers and the bed are also of William’s design, with bedding from The Linen Works.
Vincent Frey is the grandson of the eponymous Pierre Frey founder (and the current deputy manager of the French fabric and furnishing company). Vincent and his wife Bianca hired architect Marika Dru, an old school friend of Vincent’s, to work on their Parisian flat, although decided to decorate it – including son Vasco’s room – themselves. We love the mix of a grand painting with a quirky hanging basket.

The children’s bedrooms in Keith McNally’s Notting Hill home allow for storage and organisation – as well as charming touches – like this Toadstool lamp, £55 at White Rabbit England. The East Coast tongue-and-groove panelling and plaster walls aren’t restricted to the kids’ spaces, they’re a theme throughout all of the property (see how he achieved the aged look here).
These girls bedroom ideas stresses upon extravagant use of singular colour, thus defining the mood and personality of the occupant. Lilac gives a royal inclination to the room. The shear curtain in white dropping down from a hanging lilac flower against a lilac background gives way to an interesting concept. The white furniture looks remarkable and the colour white leaves a serene impact on the atmosphere.
