I love the way this black and gold room turned out. The best thing about this room was it was very affordable to decorate, as most of the decorations are from Gordmans, Hobby Lobby and the At Home Store and the bedding is from Target.

Struggling to find the perfect bedroom colour scheme? Choosing the right colour palette is more important in a bedroom than in any other room in the home: Go too bold and you run the risk of restless nights.

Made.com founder Chloe Macintosh’s bedroom is an elegant combination of deep blue walls and oatmeal coloured stripes. For fabric with a similar feel try Romo or Le Gracieux, who both do a striped cotton with a similarly painterly feel.

We this bedroom could only be found in a British home. The mass of cuddly toys, the traditional pictures, the combination of ornaments – it has a charming eccentricity about it that is so in keeping with British style.

I love the cool, calm feeling of interior stylist Pella Hedeby’s bedroom, with its abundance of natural light, crisp white linens and beautiful monochrome accents. The cladding on the wall behind the end offers the perfect framed display units for artwork and scented candles, and I always love a low console table at the foot of the bed for displaying coffee table books and keeping rows of footwear organised. Although the internet and home decorating magazines are great resources for girls room designs, ideas and pictures for this space can be found in unexpected places. Get inspiration from childhood story books, your daughter’s favorite movie, or even popular television shows. However the best, and most important resource for unique girls room design ideas such as castle themes, Barbie decorations, or mermaid inspired décor, will be your daughter herself. Regardless of how old she is, most young girls will have some sort of preference towards what is put in their room, whether it be for the color you paint the walls, the art you hang on the walls, or the covers you put on the bed. So try to involve your daughter in the decoration process by having her look at online pictures of kids rooms with you, tag along with you while you search department stores for childrens bedding, or even come with you to the home improvement store to find paint samples. With her help you will be able to make your little girls room makeover a fun and exciting task.

  1. This Victorian flat was designed by duo Lambert & Thurnherr who brought their international flavor to the space, creating a home that is both comfortable and individual. Blue and white fabrics give this bedroom a fresh feel.
When it comes to children’s decor, my eye is always drawn to white, airy rooms with playful details to add warmth and colour. Jenson’s gender neutral nursery is a perfect example of this, with his sweet ladybug bedding and special wooden toys out on display. There’s space to let him play unrestricted, with stylish storage boxes to tidy away any clutter afterwards. It’s also a room that can easily grow with him for years to come. Whilst monochrome is the trend of the moment, it can be surprisingly tricky to get right. The key is to find a balance and you can do this by adding in more soft tones and textures such as wooden accents, a fun wallpaper or contrasting prints. Not only does it make the space more interesting, but it doesn’t restrict you to one overly coordinated look. Have fun with styling and sourcing your key pieces and it will shine through in your child’s room! Image Credit: Holly Nicholls from Jenson & Beau
Can’t find a headboard you like? Customise. Paint one directly onto the wall, create an upcycled version out of old doors, or simply cover an existing headboard in a new fabric like shown here, adding plenty of pattern throughout the room for a cosy, layered look.
