This is my ideal bedroom style, I love the of soft and subtle tones with small injections of colour such as the yellow used in bedside accessory bowl and the brass used on those gorgeous twin wall lamps. This bedroom is within the Cotswolds home of architect Richard Parr. The chest of drawers from Bryanmawr Furniture Makers, is made from oak and compliments the simple, yet timeless feel of the bedroom. Designer Ebba Thott has kept a simple elegant feel in this London bedroom. With the problem of a large window at the end of the space, she has created a sense of entrance and drama through symmetry – placing the bed, which is flanked by two stylish mid-century wooden nightstands, directly in the middle of the room; and using a blind that is dramatic in its scale, but simple in its design. Pictures stacked on the floor rather than hung give a clean, relaxed feel.

Repurpose an ordinary bookshelf by turning it into a kid-friendly storage space. Here, colorful bins provide an easy place to organize kid’s stuff. Once your little one knows where everything belongs, she’ll be more likely to clean up after playtime on her own. Reserve the top shelf of the bookcase to display collectibles and picture frames. Tight storage space under the bookshelf can be reserved for oversized coloring books or posters.

We think this bedroom could only be found in a British home. The mass of cuddly toys, the traditional pictures, the combination of ornaments – it has a charming eccentricity about it that is so in keeping with British style.

Schooled in matters of taste by her mother, when designer Emma Burns inherited the former stables that her parents had converted as a weekend retreat, she put into practice the principles that now guide her professional work for Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler. This cosy bedroom has beamed ceilings, and is furnished mainly with antiques.

Silver, gold and bronze touches in the bedroom of one of Sarah Stewart-Smith’s daughters at their family home in Herefordshire. Wooden floors enhance the country-house feel and a cosy bedthrow adds warmth. Beams were exposed after Sarah discovered them behind plaster boarding in the charming 1786 cottage she now calls home.

Sometimes there’s much to be gleaned from the design of a good hotel room. This one the Playa Grande Beach Club is painted in what it’s owner calls, ‘faded bathing-suit colours’, and layered with art, objects and vintage furnishings. The bed forms the focal point of a perfectly symmetrical tableau of furniture, starting with the wall mounted lamps and side tables and culminating with the bamboo sofa, coffee table and string chairs which form an appealing seating area for morning coffee and newspapers.
