I love the luminousity of this bedroom. Huge windows and a total white background -even the ceiling beams have been painted in white- lights up all the space. Even if I love total white interiors, I think that some spots of colour can make a bedroom cosier. Here, I love the choice of dusty pink: it’s a trendy colour hue for this year and it goes well with most of colours. Also, pink is known as one of the most relaxing colours, so I think it’s perfect for a bedroom. (Grasshopper floor lamp and About a Lounge by Hay chair are always a great choice for a reading corner, love them in pink) One original architectural feature of this room, the mezzanine with bed on top: I’ve always been fascinated by low beds, but I’m not used to sleep close to the floor…so this is a good compromise!  Just one thing I would add in this beautiful room: some linen curtains on that windows, here in Italy it’s not possible to think about a bedroom without curtains, you could just die of heat here in a mid summer morning! Image credit

This green, cream and black bedroom features ruched blinds, which are shaking off their Eighties associations and making a comeback. Some rooms require a relaxed edge and these provide that softness. This one is in ‘Sophie’ from Borderline, £76 a metre – a simple linen print that looks charming and not at all like a Viennetta.

Not a design scheme for the faint hearted but one that we rather love. The furniture may have a Louis XV feel but the introduction of hot pink and lime green accessories and the all-over lattice effect wallpaper keep it ultra contemporary.

But you can create a dedicated dressing area in a small bedroom, too. Use a decorative dressing screen to separate off one corner of the room, keeping a clothes rail behind it, as well as your dressing table if space allows.

Let’s face it, teenagers and orderly rooms are a rare combination. Messy rooms seem to be a teenager’s rite of passage. Good storage options will be the best feature they didn’t think they needed but will appreciate.

Designers Cécile Figuette and Frédéric Bonnin of French brand Minakani Lab create wallpaper and panoramas that are larger-than-life, with motifs that randomly and compositions that are light and airy. Printed in Paris, the wallpaper is printed to the client’s wall dimensions and some can be adapted to your own colour scheme. ‘The Wild’ (pictured here) is inspired by Douanier Rousseau and illustrated by hand in black and white. Thank you for your comment, I apologise but I can’t seem to see the princess castle printed blinds in the our article, however the children’s bed with curtains is by petitevintageinteriors.com.au so you may still be able to find this on their site.

Soft colors and classic style will keep this girl’s room timeless for years to come. Neutral walls and furniture create a sense of unity and allow patterned bedding and window treatments to be the center of attention. A pattern that isn’t too age-specific allows for her creativity to shine in wall art and painting hung around the room. Lighting treatments are similar with neutral bases and lampshades that can easily be switched out at a low cost.
