Both rooms look great. As the younger of two, I don’t think I had first choice ever. When I was still living with my parents after college, they added on to the house and again my brother got first choice but because he drug his feet, I got the space by default. I was all moved in in a day. lol I’m sure your girls will love their spaces and truly make it their own.

There is no reason at all that a small bedroom – even a really tiny bedroom – can’t be every bit as gorgeous, relaxing, and just plain full of personality as a much larger space. I peacock feathers for girls bedroom the cottage/farmhouse look in my home, though I live in a patio apartment. The bedroom above is typical of how I decorate. I’m really into the black, red, gray and white color combination. Also, this bedroom has a lot of textural elements that give it character and charm. The rug on the floor. And the wicker trunk at the end of the bed. I also love anything vintage, and having a piece of furniture that perhaps belonged to grandma fits right in. I know people think it’s calming and minimalism is all the rage now, but I don’t think I could sleep in an all-white room, says Humphrey. I generally like cooler colors in a bedroom, though—blues and grays as opposed to warm tones. Black and white always works and can be a good foundation (like in a patterned area rug) to layer in some color. A tiny swatch won’t do white paint justice. Nail your pick by coating a poster board with the potential hue, and see how it looks during the day and at night. Here, a warmer tone keeps the bedroom glam yet cozy.

I’m really into using dark colours in the bedroom. It creates such an intimate vibe and I find it incredibly relaxing, plus it’s super sophisticated and very glamorous! The designer did a great job in creating a room that incorporates beautiful traditional elements like the panelling and mouldings, but brings it up to date with bold lighting and metallics. To make this room more ‘me’ I’d add a few more POP art elements, calm accent colours and a bit of street chic with the accessories. Image credit

  1. Thinking about your colour scheme is a good place to start, as it means you can ensure any furniture or accessories you choose will work with your child’s room. Ask your child if they have a preference for wall colour. Perhaps they love pink or green or yellow? Agreeing on a shade with them will help them feel a connection to the space and will make it extra special to them.
With casual yet comfortable decor, a simple bedroom will make your guests feel right at home. Mount swing-arm sconces inside bedposts to provide easy reading light, and use lighter wall colors such as aqua to soothe.
