beautiful girl rooms _how to design your room for girls

Most people want their bedroom to be a soothing, restorative retreat. If that’s your then consider green and white for your palette. Add in botanical touches in the bedding, as in the room from Viscusi Elson Interior Design shown here, along with a showstopper sunburst mirror, stylish Roman shades, and cottage-casual white furniture, and the result is a room that calms your mind and refreshes your senses. Beautiful.

All the furniture in this bedroom at Soho Farmhouse is wooden, including the panelling of the sink in the ensuite glimpsed through the doorway. This was designed to capture the Upstate New York cabin feeling.

I love the diversity in this post. You can find inspiration for everything – from cosy and snuggly bedrooms to dark and mysterious ones. Especially liked the one with the wall mural, feels like sleeping in the forest, out in the fresh and crisp air. I remember seeing a similar design but with rain clouds. I think natural wall murals bring peace and serenity to the bedroom.

Tongue-and-groove panelling adds New England-style charm to the spare room (in what used to be the butler’s pantry) of this 1830s London house restored to its original style by interior designer Max Rollitt. The touch of a chair used in place of a traditional nightstand is particularly charming.

This gorgeous girl’s room has hand painted, full room wall mural with wooden floors. The atmosphere in this room is enough to give wings to the imagination to your little fairy. I won’t be surprised to find her in the land of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, fast asleep in the garden, waiting for her prince. The traditional bed and the furniture enhance the mystic feel of the atmosphere.

We love the combination of styles in this room, from paisley print bedding to a geometric rug to a sixties style light and swing chair. Also note how the bed is located in the middle of the room – a styling idea to steal perhaps?

As in their dining room and their upstairs hallway, the faux panelling in the spare room of Tarquin Bilgen and wife Isobel’s Suffolk farmhouse was painted by Alan Dodd. Prints and paintings of mountains, such as the one above the chest of drawers, provide a visual theme. Like the lamp? Vaughan do a similar sang-de-boeuf Chinese ceramic lamp base, £450 and shade, £177.

Don’t be fearful of brights in the bedroom, they can look fantastic, but we suggest keeping strong hues to a feature wall behind the bed and choosing a softer, more calming colour for the rest of the room.

Why not perk up your bedroom with a simple bed canopy. This curtain was created with two fabrics from Fermoie and edged with rufflette. The top of the canopy is covered with a simple frame edged with a scallop trim.

I wish I had designed this room – I love everything about it. The bleached natural pine floorboards and tall white walls are a perfect canvas for those pretty vintage pieces and more colourful toys. With a restrained colour palette like this, a child’s room always look stylish, no matter how messy it is. I love kids’ rooms that aren’t filled with matching furniture sets from children’s ranges. Finding meaningful, beautiful pieces gives kids’ rooms personality – it takes time, but this is how the best interiors develop, organically. Quirky details such as the hat collection add fun, whilst the unexpectedly small and contrasting orange pendant adds punch to this calm monochrome scheme. Simple finishes provide a backdrop for the collection of modern art in this Victorian town house in west London. The owners chose architect Seth Stein, who is known for his masterly paring back of historic buildings. The colour in the main bedroom comes from a seventeenth-century tapestry on the wall, along with the pair of armchairs upholstered in vivid blue mohair from Kvadrat.

One of the most popular color schemes for a preteen girl’s bedroom is pink, white, and black. Take one look at the room shown here and you’ll see why: it’s the perfect blend of sophistication, innocence, and quirkiness. Stick with black and white on the flooring and the furniture, and you can easily change the theme if your daughter eventually decides she’s too old for pink.

The main bedroom in Diane Nutting’s manor house in Wiltshire features a showstopping Colefax and Fowler chintz fabric from the 1970s, since discontinued. The sister-in-law of Diane’s first husband was Nancy Lancaster, the owner of the company.

New England chic pervades the upstairs of restaurant owner Keith McNally’s Notting Hill house. Reclaimed floorboards are in the main bedroom, along with an antique iron hospital-style bedstead. Navajo blankets in rich shades of red are draped over the sofas and beds throughout the house. The effect is stylish and relaxed. If you are on the lookout for something similar, Sacha Knight’s new venture, Knight Mills, does a similar look. Influenced by American Indian designs, her handwoven cotton rugs measure 180 x 120cm and cost £390.
