Darkish timber home furniture generally does not appear excellent next to an excellent red-colored retaining wall, and so decide on bright, dark as well as light-colored items. Especially next to a larger bed frame and mattress—tiny nightstands can look so dorky,” says Humphrey, who advises his clients to buy normal-size furnishings for small spaces. “It can actually make a small room look bigger and will be more useful and functional,” he adds. I adore a nursery that is simple, bright and happy – this space in Australia made me smile the second I spotted it. From the clean white walls (that can be easily touched up when the toddler years start!), bold illustrations on the walls, to the cosy chair with cool cushions for feeding or cuddles, it’s my idea of a gorgeous room. I love that midcentury style cabinet with it’s display of vintage toys and fun artwork. It also offers a useful storage solution for all those little things that constantly need tidying away. If I was going to be decorating a baby’s room again, this is a look I would be completely inspired by. It’s perfect for a girl or a boy and a space that they can grow into too. The only thing I would be looking to add is something hanging from the ceiling. Babies love to look up, so a mobile or a garland would be great above the cot. Image Credit

What fun to see into your girls room! It will also be fun to see the progress you make in them. Maybe you could of had the girls toss a coin over the large room. Leaving it up to chance then dissolves any bitterness towards a parent who made the calll. I heard this parenting advice years ago and it works great in situations like this where there seems to be no right answer. I might add though firstborn children had a special inheritance in bible days. They are the “first fruit” from the womb and God treats them a bit differently. You may want to look it up, it is a bit hard for me to explain. Just so you know I am a middle child, so I have those issues! I am a mom of 4 boys so I know it is hard to treat them equally, and also realize they are different! We have an en-suite bedroom with a bathroom which my oldest used until he moved away from college. Then my 2nd oldest moved in and will be there until he moves out. And so on it will go. It works for us! Have a lovely weekend!

I love the calming look of this bedroom and the use of natural textures and images. The bedding colour palette of pale grey and blush pink works beautifully together and helps evoke a peaceful atmosphere.  For me, a cosy bedroom incorporates plenty of pillows and cushions on the bed and a throw to add extra warmth, and different textures add interest. The icing on the cake is the stunning forest wall mural. It’s got a magical feel to it and transports you to another place. Even if you’re living in the middle of a city, you’d get that fantastic view when you get out of bed in the morning. Hanging a mirror on the opposite wall would ensure you could see the trees from the bed too! Image credit

A school uniform chair would be a truly special feature for any child or teenager’s room – uniform, sports kit, brownies, cubs, a favourite party dress, any outfit can become an eye-catching piece of furniture with a little imagination. Here, I used a digital fabric design and combined it onto my favourite style of armchair. This would work equally well on any style of chair, sofa or interior furnishing! I think this is a wonderfully quirky design that features a fabulous twist on a special part of your child or teenager’s life, making sure that the memories of their happiest years live on forever… Custom-designed chairs, lampshades, cushions and wallpaper designs are a fantastic edition to any child’s bedroom and provide high quality, extremely comfortable pieces that will make your bedroom design truly unique and memorable.

Add some sparkle to a princess-themed room with a starry wallpapered ceiling. This room’s blue ceiling, as well as small pops of powder blues, lavender, and bright coral, breaks up a mostly pink color scheme. This bedroom ticks a lot of boxes for me with the herringbone floor, contemporary light fitting and soft linen bedding. I always have a soft spot for period properties and the owners of this home have highlighted the gorgeous high ceiling with a dusty pink colour – a bold but highly effective way to add colour into a room without it being overwhelming. Also, by bringing the curtain pole the full width of the wall, the curtains do not cover the window at all – allowing for maximum light and a really luxurious feel with all of that lovely soft fabric. Flea market lamps are one of the most affordable ways to add one-of-a-kind lighting to a tween girl’s room. Although found with a beige shade for $25, this brass lamp was updated with a black paper shade picked up at a big-box retailer for less than $15.

This year we decided to give our bedroom a mini makeover. Sometimes a theme wall can do the trick as is the case here where Farrow & Ball’s Dix Blue was used as the background. The tall headboard of the upholstered bed and the brass accessories give it a luxurious look that is always a pleasure to come back to.

  1. It might be tempting to buy the biggest bed possible to feather a luxurious nest. But doing this in a small space tends to cause a more cramped feel. Instead, choose a bed with small stature that won’t choke the room, such as an iron bed with a see-through headboard and footboard. Or pick a bed with no footboard at all, such as a platform or storage bed. Doing so will keep the middle of your room open, making it feel larger.
We tried having one fall asleep in our room, then moving them when we went to bed. It went like that for a long time. I finally just decided it was dumb to keep having them sleep in our room and that they needed their own rooms. It was a good choice. My girls are still close and we now have kids who get sleep and can function during the day. Yay!
