I’m a 14 year old girl, and I am re-doing my small bedroom. None of these (with the exception of the first one) are realistic or what I’m looking for. I hate the unoriginality of the modern rooms and the pompous air in the others.

Ett Hem in Stockholm must be one the most beautiful hotels in the world. Designed by Ilse Crawford of Studioilse, the traditional bones of the room, including the Swedish tiled stove in the corner, work beautifully with playful modern pieces. For a similar knitted pouf we recommend getting the real hand-made deal from Claire Anne O’Brien, who can take bespoke commissions.

Maximising light and space was essential to show the owner’s post-war art and sleek French art deco furniture to their best advantage in this elegant Pimlico flat. In the bedroom nineteenth-century photographs bought from Portobello Market hang above the bed, while built in bookshelves flank the windows.

An eclectic mix of styles doesn’t have to take up much room – in fact, sometimes a small space really highlights a wonderful blend of décor. This tiny bedroom, for example, combines Asian, retro, and rustic touches for a result that’s huge in personality and style. Another great tip for a small master bedroom: instead of bedside lamps, save space with pendant lights.

The spare room in this Georgian town house in Ludlow designed by Caroline Harrowby is papered in ‘Alderney’ from Colefax and Fowler. This adds interest to the space, which is light and airy – a fitting style for a small bedroom.

The spare bedroom in this glamorous chalet in the French Alps was designed by Kate Earle using a neutral palette and myriad clever details. Case in point: the painted frieze and grouping of wicker mirrors above the bed, which were bought at the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair.

Nurture the art lover in your teen by decorating their bedroom walls with prints they’ve picked. If their room is already a technicolour dream, pick a portrait that incorporates as many of the colours as possible to tie the room together.

Personally I like a child’s room not to have a theme, instead adding decorative touches, so that they can grow with the room. I tend to always steer towards bright pastels and pattern for children, I think it brightens a room and makes them feel clean but cool at the same time. The photo shows a beautiful bedroom for a little girl. I love how it is totally neutral whilst colourful – this room could happily be for a girl or boy of any age. My top picks for a children’s room would always be second-hand furniture painted in beautiful colours, bright simple bed linen, key timeless decorative pieces that can be passed down, photos or artwork to reflect their personalities and loads of storage. The bedroom is a place when you should be able to relax, rest and sleep well. The space therefore should be simple, clean and uncluttered. Ban all the unnecessary items and focus on the essentials – comfy pillows, soft bedding, good light for reading, and small bedside table to keep your books and water carafe. Create a space where you can rest your eyes and calm your mind, and it means white walls and no busy patterns. I am drawn to this bedroom because of the colour palette – all in soft brown tones. There is a feeling of calm and the crumpled linen looks very inviting. The only decoration it needs is a single artwork on the wall. The beauty here is in simplicity. Image credit

Look to your attic for space to grow, like in this little girl’s bedroom design. If a remodel is involved, tailor the basics of the room to suit your home’s style. For example, if you have a farmhouse, use warm, rustic wood on the walls and floor. That way, the space will blend seamlessly with the rest of the home should it be used for another purpose down the road.

This beautiful soft industrial bedroom featured on the cover of the launch issue of Warehouse Home – and it’s been proving very popular! The original features of a warehouse conversion, such as exposed brickwork, can often feel ‘hard’ and ‘masculine’. Old and new steel furniture is especially striking in such spaces but can also feel cold. When styling the Warehouse Home bedroom (above), we wanted to prove that industrial chic can have a soft side. A bespoke galvanised steel pipe bed, designed exclusively for Warehouse Home by Inspirit Deco, was the focal point of our warehouse bedroom. And beside it, a vintage industrial bedside cabinet. We then used a ‘masculine and feminine’ palette of greys and blush pinks and a variety of textured fabrics (linen, tweed, velvet), to bring warmth to our bedroom and soften the industrial look. Select vintage accessories complemented the warehouse conversion’s heritage features, while flowers and decorative vintage glassware further enhanced the “femininity” of the space. Image credit

I adore these room ideas for young girls. Some are for a little younger girl but my favorite has to be the one with the Audrey Hepburn picture on the wall. Its trendy, flirty, and girly. These ideas are so different I could see many personalities being able to shine through with them.

Have a small space? This kids’ room designed by Eve Mercier packs a lot of punch. The artist owners of this London house called on interior designer Beata Heuman to create a family home full of fun, distinctive design and punchy colours. A highly original space, unapologetically theatrical and oozing energy. ‘The owners are both artists. They have quite wild tastes and they love strong colours,’ says Beata. This bedroom, decorated in different shades of blue, is given a lift by a mustard throw on the bed.

The main bedroom of textiles designer Susan Deliss’ French country house is painted in the softest of blues – pink curtains in an Osborne & Little silk add a contrasting jolt of colour. A mid-century modern chair has been reupholstered in a fresh gingham and the bed quilt was hand-dyed with indigo.
