I wanted this nursery to be a tranquil yet timeless space. The combination of subtle greys, soft pinks and white furniture is timeless and effortlessly stylish and ensures longevity. Taking inspiration from the vintage wallpaper tree art, I have accented this with brighter pinks and lime greens to punctuate the scheme and add freshness. The cotton curtains, have a playful embroidered band across the bottom featuring cats and birds, adding interest and fun to the scheme and contrasting well with the brighter pink linen blind. There is a useful mix of both open and closed storage. Contemporary pieces (such as the bunny nightlight and the grey acrylic storage stool) are mixed with vintage finds (including the wallpaper used for the tree and the antique children’s books) to create a unique room and one that complements the rest of the home. A sweet sanctuary.

Turn your little one’s room into a storage oasis with built-ins. Here, a custom-designed built-in window seat includes storage space for everything from books to toys to clothing. In each cubby, a pull-out basket waits to easily hide toys and unsightly cords. Not shown, a large cabinet next to the bed provides more storage for art supplies and games. And if those areas aren’t quite enough, the spacious closet provides more storage space for shoes, clothing, accessories, and toys.

Don’t be afraid of the dark! Dark colours have become really cool in interiors and bedrooms are amazing spaces to use them. This dark blue creates a really dramatic space and draws your eye to the crisp white linen and the light of the window. Image credit

I love all of these diy ideas an will be using as many in my daughters room – she is 11 an wants a teen room- problem is we live in a single wide trailer- her room is extremely small- I have no idea what to do to make it cool looking an give the wow effect – trying to figure out what colors to paint it so it doesn’t look smaller but give the effect of bigger- walls are Sheetrocked thankfully- she has very small closet an one very wide window– if u or anyone has an ideas or pictures it would be greatly appreciated by both of us–!!! Thank u, Brenda in VT

If you are a kind of girly girl, and you love to have your room dominated in pink, but don’t want it to look childish you can add an adult edge by having your focal wall in darker colors and then provide your room with pink stuff . That will give you the pinkish domination you want in your room, and it will not look childish at the same time, so you get the best of both worlds.

I love this bedroom for a number of reasons: it just looks so calm, relaxing and welcoming. It belongs to Netherlands-based interior stylist and journalist Holly Marder, who has a fab blog called Avenue Lifestyle. When you see the before images you will realise just how successful this bedroom makeover has been. Before it was dark and decorated in a garish purple and orange, but Holly has transformed it into a calm retreat by painting the floorboards and walls white. I like how the design is asymmetrical, there’s two different bedside tables, two different lamps, and a cluster of framed pictures on just one side, but it still really works, you don’t have to be too rigid and use the same thing on each side, especially when there are two different people in the bed, with two different personalities! Image credit

Pom-poms, polka dots, bunting and crochet might sound like a little too much to have all in one space, but treated right and these fun prints, patterns and textures can create a bright and brilliant bedroom for a teenage girl. Balance warm orange and yellow tones with pale blues and expanses of white, if you don’t want it to feel overwhelming. However, it’s an ideal space to let your teen play with design options.

wow, thanks for this post. I like the one with the stairs. It’s almost the same picture I have in mind years ago but never given a chance to have it in real picture. Anyway, happy to drop by and see your posts.

Every girl dreams of being a princess, at least at some point of their lives. But while princesses are real, fairytales aren’t and little girls can’t really go live “in a land far, far away”. Or can they?

This is the guest bedroom at a client’s penthouse in the centre of Barcelona. I love the colour scheme and all the fabrics used. It feels like you’re on a holiday in a beautiful hotel when you’re in this bedroom. It has an en-suite with a double shower so that you can shower at the same time as your partner, I thought this would be romantic. The velvet, the suede, the silk, the divine fabrics and tones used in this bedroom are horse bedroom decor girls entire world of calming, soothing, touchy feely goodness. It’s also a deluxe combination. To me It’s a winner. Image credit

Moody, masculine & deliciously unconventional, Scott Newkirk’s New York bedroom is my idea of the perfect retreat. I love the way he has skilfully coupled a restrained & muted palette with a medley of textural layers from metal & woods to linen, wool & length-upon-length of natural burlap. He has created a surprisingly luxurious getaway which is both atmospheric & calming. Image credit

This beautiful soft industrial bedroom featured on the cover of the launch issue of Warehouse Home – and it’s been proving very popular! The original features of a warehouse conversion, such as exposed brickwork, can often feel ‘hard’ and ‘masculine’. Old and new steel furniture is especially striking in such spaces but can also feel cold. When styling the Warehouse Home bedroom (above), we wanted to prove that industrial chic can have a soft side. A bespoke galvanised steel pipe bed, designed exclusively for Warehouse Home by Inspirit Deco, was the focal point of our warehouse bedroom. And beside it, a vintage industrial bedside cabinet. We then used a ‘masculine and feminine’ palette of greys and blush pinks and a variety of textured fabrics (linen, tweed, velvet), to bring warmth to our bedroom and soften the industrial look. Select vintage accessories complemented the warehouse conversion’s heritage features, while flowers and decorative vintage glassware further enhanced the “femininity” of the space. Image credit

The dream bedroom for teens, back comforter with large pink flowers on it and gold stars on the wall. Where did that comforter and sham set come from?? M daughter loves it and I cannot seem to find anything similar. Beautiful room!

Damask wallpaper is a soft substitute for the neon, and a new window seat adds the perfect place to curl up with a book. A chandelier, whitewashed furniture, and pink curtains add final shabby chic touches

Hanging beds or wall beds are the trend of the day. These beds make up a great idea for your teenage girls bedroom. You could mix up these hanging beds with either a simple theme or an elegant and luxurious themed room décor for your girls. You can add a separate or common work table for the girls along with nice and elegant storage cabinets. The hanging beds leave you enough space for fitting in extra, classy storage baskets.

Eye-popping aqua makes a statement in this bedroom as a striking backdrop for crisp white trim and girl’s bedroom accessories. Pops of pink, inspired by the cherry blossom tree painted on the wall, contrast the room’s ultra-colorful walls. Through the white doors, a bright white room awaits with furniture placed to make it the perfect reading nook. Subtle girl’s room themes like this can grow with her into teen years and beyond.

Thanks, Allyson. They do tend to migrate to the larger room to play. Also because my older daughter is more neat. She would prefer the ‘mess’ of the play be in her sisters room. At first she thought that also meant her sister would have to clean everything up. We had to work on that issue. I remember some friends growing up had done the same thing. The girls had the master bedroom. I always thought that was a combination of fantastic and totally strange! Maybe you guys could find a two story home with a master on each floor. Then you still get a master and so will the girls!

The age of your daughter will largely determine what type of décor or theme you should use in the room. With a newborn, you will want to find baby girl nursery room ideas, such as a farm animal or fairy theme, that will be appropriate for many years or that can easily be altered as your daughter grows and her tastes change. Circus design or farm animal themes are good baby room ideas for girls that your daughter will not quickly out grow. They are also both gender neutral themes that can be incorporated into a shared toddler room for girls and boys. For either of these designs, you can paint the walls of the room a neutral color such as pale yellow or blue and then purchase bedding, art, curtains, wall decals, and accessories that are consistent with the theme. Wall decals and pretty girls bedding sets with pink pigs, white ducks, yellow chicks and other barnyard animals are farm-themed accessories that are inexpensive and can be easily removed or altered when your daughter is older and wants to transfer her space into a teenage bedroom.

the rooms look great, can’t wait to see them all finished. Good for inspiration for my daughters room, we moved house about 3 months ago and her room is still very much a work in progress. We have the wallpaper and all the furniture, just need to get busy with the actual decoration. You have really maximized the space in the wardrobe, I may just have to steal that idea for miss 8’s room, thanks for sharing.

Ideally, a bedroom should be a clean, minimal space for you to unwind in, but I also love how creativity has crept into this Scandi interior. Full of personality, this scrapbook/shelving arrangement complements the DIY aesthetic of the room and accompanies the hanging bulb light fixture perfectly. Framed pictures are non-existent but instead, a quick fix of inspirational imagery taped to the wall is the ultimate effortless decorative feature. I like how black accents can be detected from the tape, light and bedside table; bringing all of the decorations together, but still harnessing that spontaneous element. Image credit

The pink and cream in this room is a little girl’s dream. But the sophisticated armoire and chandelier mean that it will suit her for years to come, and can be easily updated by changing the bedding and accessories.

WoW! The bedroom by Samantha Pynn is incredible and perfect for us. I got married couple of weeks ago and we’re moving next month to our new apartment. So I was looking for special bedroom decoration ideas and got the perfect one!

This girl’s room has a cute bespoke headboard to match the shape of the round bed, studded with mismatched floral buttons for a fun, girly look. Pile high pillows in bright shades and different shapes.

For example, you could want to select a solid wood futon framework with a publication rack on the sides. This type of futon framework in fact does not actually look any type of various from any other sitting setup. When it is folded up out; nonetheless, it supplies comfy sleeping lodgings.

I would describe this bedroom as ‘cosy contemporary’ and it’s the sort of space I could relax in at the end of a busy day.  It is fairly minimalist, but not as stark as a white or grey bedroom, with an on trend geo pattern and a soft colour palette, with some warmth from the brass lamp and wooden side table.  I also love the white painted floor boards and think it is a look that could be quite easy to re-create. Image credit

A sleigh bed, for example, is a preferred conventional style of bed that can be conveniently combined with deluxe bed linens to produce a conventional, classic look in your bedroom. Of course, if you desire an extra modern look you could take into consideration the very same sleigh bed including modern lines and integrated with solid shades, stripes or geometric patterns.

If your little girl has a knack for geography, consider girl’s bedroom wallpaper that has an educational flair. In this globetrotter’s room, a map of the world takes up the entire accent wall. Here, she can plan her next big adventure or be inspired to pick up a few library books on the eastern hemisphere. Plan the bedding and textiles around the colors found in the global designs.

“Hanging drapery as close to the ceiling as possible is a design trick that actually works,” Humphrey says. “It’ll bring the eye up. While we’re at it, a good trick for picking curtains is to match the fabric to the wall color. It’s modern and can be nice in a smaller space, because your eye won’t be distracted by contrasting colors.”

This cottage bedroom at ‘Driftwood’  in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand was a shoot location for Laura Thomas Linens ‘Organic Bed Linen Collection’.  A space where time became irrelevant and the busy technological world we live in could be placed on hold.  The coastal style was uncluttered and the use of straw roller blinds and natural light created an atmosphere of wilderness and calm.  The incredible view could be enjoyed from the comfort of the http://obserworld.com/news/overstock-clearance-sale-company-stockclearanceguru-celebrates-successful-launch/0052164/ A perfect paradise to wake up to! Image credit

What a fantastic article! Really glad I found this, so many excellent ideas and tips when renovating your bedroom. We spend so much time in our bedroom that it`s important we make it a relaxing and enjoyable room to be in.

I also show how to create 2 kinds of DIY pillows (no sew) for my bedroom. Room décor can’t get any better than that! For the first DIY pillow decor I write a word smile on the pillow using yarn. On the second pillow I painted a pretty chevron pattern using blue and pink fabric paint. You basically need only a pillowcase and your creativity for this DIY!

A light, airy guest room gets a dose of vintage charm with an antique iron bed and canary prints from a 1951 picture book hung on the wall. Traditional accents keep the space feeling cozy and classic.

A black and white colour scheme isn’t usually associated with kids’ rooms but, if your daughter’s not a girly-girl, a monochrome palette, accessorised with bright hues in green or red, is a great alternative to pinks.

It’s already been said – you just can’t not decorate the ceiling of a princess’s room. A canopy is a classic that never goes out of style, and installing it in the ceiling adds that magical touch while also making optimal use of the space available. addisonswonderland.

Thinking about your colour scheme is a good place to start, as it means you can ensure any furniture or accessories you choose will work with your child’s room. Ask your child if they have a preference for wall colour. Perhaps they love pink or green or yellow? Agreeing on a shade with them will help them feel a connection to the space and will make it extra special to them.

Decorating a small bedroom can get extra tricky with odd nooks and corners. Use light, crisp colors to combat unique features like lower ceilings. Bright whites look luxe in any sized room, and even turn this slanted-ceiling kids’ room into a spacious play zone.

Along with futons, daybeds additionally create a flexible seats and also resting option for spare spaces and also guest areas. Trundle beds, which turn up, can increase the amount of resting room you have the ability to offer guests. Making an office as well as extra room even more flexible take into consideration using an armoire computer workdesk that can be conveniently closed so your workplace is shut and also concealed from sight when you have guests investing the night.

Shelving is super convenient for toy organization as it doesn’t take up a lot of space and can be placed above dressers, desks, even above the door for hardly used items. Similarly, placing a bookshelf at the foot of the bed doesn’t take up valuable wall space and may even give you another surface near the bed for a lamp or nighttime book.

Speaking of…under the bed storage such as rollaway drawers is always helpful in creating more space and can hold seasonal or limited use items. Just because your space is small does not mean your pieces can’t be large. Use a monochromatic color scheme because it creates an illusion for the eyes. Choose one color family and select variations of it for the largest parts of your rooms. Natural light will also be your friend. Use sheer window treatments or leave them off entirely. Consider furnishings that have multiple purposes. And always, create a space you love!

The key to successful children’s bedroom design is clever storage. Make storage practical, accessible and easy to use, so that children have a place where everything goes. Encourage children to have an input into the colour scheme or theme, if they buy into the idea of the room from the start and have a hand in how it is planned and arranged, then they are more likely to take pride in keeping it organised and tidy. Baskets, trays, cupboards with doors and drawers are all good options. If you have the luxury of space then try to keep storage to the outer edges of the room so that children have a clearly identifiable place in which to play. Room to play in a free and unstructured way allows children to be more imaginative in their learning. Personally I like a child’s room not to have a theme, instead adding decorative touches, so that they can grow with the room. I tend to always steer towards bright pastels and pattern for children, I think it brightens a room and makes them feel clean but cool at the same time. The photo shows a beautiful bedroom for a little girl. I love how it is totally neutral whilst colourful – this room could happily be for a girl or boy of any age. My top picks for a children’s room would always be second-hand furniture painted in beautiful colours, bright simple bed linen, key timeless decorative pieces that can be passed down, photos or artwork to reflect their personalities and loads of storage. When it comes to shades for a spare bedroom, attempt to maintain the colors as neutral and also tranquil as possible. This will certainly provide you a tranquil setting where to function and supply a tranquil place for your guests to remainder. To ensure lots of storage area in addition to floor area, consider utilizing a portion of the storage room to keep office products and referral books while reserving the various other section of the storage room for your guests to hang clothing. This will certainly remove the should occupy a lot of flooring space with racks. You might even find that you have enough space left over to create a little seating location.

Use up vertical space: If you don’t have much space to work with, concentrate on building up instead of building out. These floating shelves, for instance, are stylish and practical. What makes them e (Diy Storage Bedroom)

Dark and moody decor can be achieved without turning a teen bedroom into a bat cave; paint the walls a smart dark grey, and layer up lighter shades of grey and white, using different patterns to add interest, and a throw in a pop of one other colour for a little youthful energy. A hand-lettered print on the wall (in this case a parental reminder, maybe!) along with other ice-white accents, freshens the finish without taking away from the overall impact.

Children’s bedrooms should be fun, bold and playful. As a designer, I love to let my imagination run wild when working with children’s bedrooms. With a little inventiveness you can create the most wonderful spaces with unusual paint effects and bespoke joinery. Use MDF to create a built in bed in the shape of a house or teepee, section off a corner for a reading area in the shape of a castle or make the most of a tall ceiling with a mezzanine, as in the image above. Children love to have their own special space and creating a reading nook or hiding space allows them to escape into their own magical world. In the past I have designed rooms with tented ceilings, trampoline floors and a bed made from silver birch branches decorated with fairy lights. Go on – have some fun! Image Credit

Decorating a girl’s bedroom could be enjoyable as well as easy as several little women have the tendency to favor specific style elements. Butterflies and blossoms tend to show up in numerous decorating schemes; however, a variety of ladies also like character styles. The ever before prominent princess style is regularly a hit.

Give the structured canopy bed a bohemian update with a more relaxed approach that’s ideal for a teen girls bedroom. White walls and dark wooden furniture offer a neutral base for ethnic-print blinds, bed linen and a makeshift canopy draped over two ceiling-hung poles. A fresh blue or forget-me-not hued base draws together the varied prints, while a spearmint green reading lamp beside the bed freshens the relaxed, deconstructed look.

Look for ways to make your small bedroom special. Decorate a bedroom with punchy fabrics and expressive patterns. Choose interesting lighting, such as a charming chandelier or sculptural table lamps. For a small bedroom idea that makes a statement, try an unusual headboard: Pick one that is extra tall, brightly upholstered, or curvy. And use artwork to show off your personality. It doesn’t have to be pricey — framed snapshots will do. Remember, this is the most personal space in your home, so decorate a bedroom with what makes you happy.

This monogram is another easy decoration DIY that you can make in no time and use in many ways. You can use it to decorate the walls or set it on top of furniture. lulus.

The fact that bedrooms are personal spaces often shared with another person makes decorating tricky. One crucial tip to keep in mind as you consider bedroom ideas is to forego popular trends or styles in favor of what makes you happy. If there aren’t any significant bedroom remodeling changes, determining your furniture layout is the first (and biggest) decision you will need to make. Once you’ve settled on a bedroom layout, take the time to select colors and decor that reflect your personality, but also take into consideration the serene nature of a bedroom. If adding new decorations and furniture isn’t enough of an aesthetic change, you can turn your bedroom makeover into a full blown remodel by creating your own master bedroom suite, complete with a sitting room and master bathroom.

. There are a number of different layout components as well as accent pieces that can be incorporated into a young boy’s bedroom, including mounted posters of favored film as well as anime characters. You might additionally opt to show several of his own art work in his room. Murals showing favorite scenes, such as a forest or area scene also have the tendency to be prominent with young boys. These could be conveniently produced so they are appropriate for all ages. In case he does outgrow it, it can be easily paintinged over as he gets older.

Humphrey advocates mixing it up when it comes to scale. “I also like to use the largest area rug that will fit,” he says. “A canopy bed can be a cool juxtaposition in a small room. It’s unexpected, and playing with scale (big bed, small room) can be a fun way to stick it to the design purists.”

No matter what piques your daughter’s interest, she probably needs plenty of storage for her treasures. Take a cue from the kitchen for organization. Kitchen cabinetry works well in girl’s bedroom designs. Here, semicustom cabinets act as a built-in around the bed, and drawers beneath the bed take advantage of untapped storage space.

In interior design, texture plays an important part in the way that we perceive how a space feels. For your master bedroom, you’ll want it to feel warm, inviting and cozy, among other positive attributes. You can easily bring a homey feel to the space by using plenty of textiles.

I have chosen this image because, as a Mum of 3-year-old boy and girl twins, this is such a great example of how to style a shared bedroom. Not only do the colours complement each other so well, but the room looks matched, even though it is for both sexes. The shelving is perfect for storing toys and books, and they can accessorize it with their own items. I am drawn to the simplicity of the design, and contemporary style especially as we now live in a modern new build home. My tips for styling a twins’ shared room is to keep it simple, use colour schemes that complement each other and involve the children in the process – as they usually like to have a say in what they prefer! Next from the number of DIY projects in this tutorial are wall décor ideas. First is a DIY paper flower garland which is so easy to make and gives a lot of color and texture to your wall. The second idea is an abstract painting with a word. I went for the word live for my wall art to remind me that we need to live every moment as if it was our last.

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed retreat perfect for entertaining.

It’s always so nice to refresh your space in little ways. You did such a good job. I love what you’ve done with the room in general. I’m actually obsessed with palette headboards my boyfriend is in the process of making us a smaller one, but repurposing it into a bed frame was a great idea. It looks awesome.

I adore a nursery that is simple, bright and happy – this space in Australia made me smile the second I spotted it. From the clean white walls (that can be easily touched up when the toddler years start!), bold illustrations on the walls, to the cosy chair with cool cushions for feeding or cuddles, it’s my idea of a gorgeous room. I love that midcentury style cabinet with it’s display of vintage toys and fun artwork. It also offers a useful storage solution for all those little things that constantly need tidying away. If I was going to be decorating a baby’s room again, this is a look I would be completely inspired by. It’s perfect for a girl or a boy and a space that they can grow into too. The only thing I would be looking to add is something hanging from the ceiling. Babies love to look up, so a mobile or a garland would be great above the cot. Image Credit

I really like the bedroom design with the built in bed with moldings on the side and the shelf ledge on top. Do you have any additional pictures of this bedroom? I would like to have a built in like this constructed for my daughter but would like to see more images.

The bed frame is antique, but for similar try the ‘Somerset’ at Laura Ashley. A French, nineteenth-century ash chest of drawers from Colefax and Fowler Antiques complements the iron and glass chandelier. For similar try the ‘Chantal’ at Graham & Green. The raffia wall shade on the back wall is from the The Conran Shop.

In the main bedroom of a large Chelsea flat designed by Sophie Ashby, silk ‘Madison’ wallpaper from Stereo provides a bold background to the set of nude studies from Lorfords Antiques. Complementing the earthy palette of this large space, smart rosewood cabinets flank the bed. ‘It drives me crazy that so often in newbuilds everything is built-in, so I wanted something free-standing and moveable,’ explains Sophie.

This seating area for a bedroom, which is part of a scheme created by our decoration director Gabby Deeming in a rustic Dutch farmhouse, has a botanical theme. The backdrop is set by ‘Deep Celadon Green’ paint from Papers and Paints, £38.40 for 2.5 litres matt emulsion, which picks out the other shades of green in the hand-printed wallpaper ‘Iznik GM’ (crotte d’elephant), 100cm wide, €233 a metre, from Emery & Cie.

Heidi Lightfoot and Steve Gibbons own this mid-century house, built in 1936 by the renowned public sector architect Mary Medd. Vintage Star Wars figures are displayed in one of the boys’ bedrooms, with the white backdrop making the colours of the furniture and accessories even more striking.

When Tom Siebens and Mimi Parsons took the decision to downsize from a large five bedroom terrace to a distinctly more compact space in west London, they enlisted the help of decorator David Bentheim to create a modern, practical scheme. The two bedrooms are both small but ergonomic with floor-to-ceiling cupboards and a distinct colour scheme to add individual personality. Here Gayle Warwick linen in lime green provides punch.

A contemporary blue wall paint, loud print bedding and some favourite records hung on the walls: it doesn’t take much to create a cool bedroom for a young teenager. You can throw the bike in too if you’re feeling generous!

I love glamorous bedrooms that are sophisticated and not too glitzy. I love this bedroom because, even though it’s flowery, it has a masculine edge – due to the opulent dark walls and pared-back design integrity of the rest of the room. It’s a great bedroom for both men and women, which I like, as I think sometimes us ladies can sometimes take over the design of our bedrooms! Image credit

These girls bedroom ideas stresses upon extravagant use of singular colour, thus defining the mood and personality of the occupant. Lilac gives a royal inclination to the room. The shear curtain in white dropping down from a hanging lilac flower against a lilac background gives way to an interesting concept. The white furniture looks remarkable and the colour white leaves a serene impact on the atmosphere.

A large, internal glazed window provides views from the main bedroom into the sitting room and vice versa, while a concealed Venetian blind provides privacy. The bed sits on a 60cm podium, elevating the floor level and allowing access to all the cupboards. It raises the bed to provide views through the internal window across the sitting room to the leafy square that is at the front of the house and the window that overlooks the rear of the building.

The Argentinian architect Mario Cannio has created a play on stripes in his bedroom, with shades of olive green and red, and an indigo-dyed bed cover. The bedroom also has its own open fire and wooden blinds fitted outside the windows to shade them in summer. A colourful oil painting hangs above the modern fireplace and below this sit a neat line of artists pigments.

As a designer, there is nothing more important when telling the story of a shared space, then showing personalities of a room. It’s OK to break the rules. Symmetry isn’t always best. Meaning, and Intention on the other hand, is what great design is all about. It’s what I have built my entire Design Business on. Image credit

While pretty is important, practicality is also a must. White furniture can remain in the room through all stages of childhood. Bedding, accessories, and paint colors can easily be changed as tastes go from little girl to teen. The many storage options, such as built-in cabinets and nightstands, can readily go from holding dolls to fashion magazines and makeup.

During the initial design stages we find it interesting to focus on one key piece and use its colours, look and feel as a starting point for inspiration – this could be anything from a statement painting to an antique rug. Image credit

Subtle and chic, this bedroom has plenty of Parisian-inspired romance without being too frou-frou. The secret? Dusky pastels, crisp white bedding teamed with gleaming chrome and a spray of white flowers. J’taime…

A large lattice design cotton dhurrie, ikat print cushions, headboard and curtains, rattan furniture and of course a voile draped canopy; if you’re thinking of a chic colonial theme, make OKA your first stop.

I stayed at the Ludlow Hotel in New York’s Lower East Side last October and I instantly fell in love with my room. The stark black four-poster bed was the perfect contrast to whitewashed walls and beams. The industrial black window frames were dressed with heavy patterned pleated silk shades. The massive brass pendant lamp, patterned flat-weave rug, sheepskin throws and deeply veined marble coffee tables accented the decor perfectly. And the view of downtown Manhattan was of course unbeatable. Image credit

House & Garden picture editor Owen Gale transformed his loft, turning the space into a bedroom, bathroom and music studio. Here is the bedroom, which has a ceiling height of just two metres. A good desk is a must! This will be the centre point of a girl’s teen life! From homework and study to using as a dressing table, find a desk with drawer storage for books and supplies but also for hair care, a mirror and beauty essentials. Choosing a white desk option will suit any bedroom scheme, is low cost and easy to maintain. Personal space is so important as a teen, so add her own style in accessorising a funky chair design, a bright pattern blanket and some colourful desk tidies and that’s one cool combination of a desk and dressing table design! The easiest way to incorporate a big mirror to your space? Find a body-length mirror and lean it up against the wall. No holes needed. Though, you’ll want to secure it with wall tacky for peace of mind.

While a bedroom should be pleasing to the eye it should also be comfortable too. Oftentimes, bed companions have difficulty in finding a bed that matches both their preferences. This could be because a single person needs to rise while resting while the various other likes a flatter placement for improved comfort. A split flexible bed can provide an excellent compromise that will suit the demands of both individuals.

I love this luxurious bedroom designed for a colour blind client. The careful mix of pattern and texture maximises the visual impact he gets from it, without being overwhelming for anyone else. It’s a large, bright space that could take a lot of colour without looking busy, and can easily absorb big pieces (the bed is actually a super king). The walk-in wardrobe has a to-die-for amount of storage in addition to the 3 massive wardrobes alongside the bed, which allows for everything to be put away and hidden, so that you can  enjoy the bright colours and still have a tranquil space to escape to. Deep jewel tones, such as the turquoise Porta Romana Thread lamps,  and matt metallics allow the scheme to be both rich and restful. The style is very much that of a small boutique hotel – creative and encouraging. It’s not a room you go to to unwind and declutter your mind – it’s an exciting destination in itself. Every texture is interesting,  inviting and playful. The Stark carpet is wonderfully soft under food, and the silk bed throw from Soak and Sleep has a luxurious and subtle sheen to it. Image credit

We recently updated my 8 year old’s bedroom and Pinterest was a great source of inspiration for me. She has a small room and I wanted to make the most of the space and decorate it in a way that would see her through her pre-teen years. I’m a huge fan of white walls and light spaces that can be brought to life with a splash of colour and styled with a bit of black too – you can’t go wrong with monochrome! This picture inspired me when I was putting her room together. I love that there is a place of everything but it still looks stylish AND lived in. The monochrome styling mixed with the pops of colour and a few kitsch accessories all work so well together. Image Credit

Do you love anything flowery or botanical? The stately rose design bedding in our collection can help you express the style you prefer. Avast, ye landlubbers! (We love any excuse for pirate speak.) What kid wouldn’t love this pirate-inspired room, with its storytelling wall sticker and stars-and-stripes theme? However, when the pirate phase wanes, all these accessories can be removed to leave a smart navy bunk bed and wardrobe within a neutral scheme.

For a scheme in House & Garden’s August 2017 issue, Acting Decoration Editor Ruth Sleightholme worked with wicker designs and French textiles in a bedroom with distressed paintwork and tiled floors in Atelier Vime’s eighteenth-century hôtel particulier, Hotel Drujon.

One of the most popular color schemes for a preteen girl’s bedroom is pink, white, and black. Take one look at the room shown here and you’ll see why: it’s the perfect blend of sophistication, innocence, and quirkiness. Stick with black and white on the flooring and the furniture, and you can easily change the theme if your daughter eventually decides she’s too old for pink.

I have a thing for fairytales and so I always seek for that ‘happily ever after’ look in my home. With its tactile textures, warming beige tones and flowing covers, this bedroom is the epitome of a bed that’s fit for a princess and her prince – or me and my fiancé. It’s clear that the main focus of the room is the bed itself and so, as I believe that you can never have enough scatter cushions either, this scene truly is my ideal bedroom.

Have a small space? This kids’ room designed by Eve Mercier packs a lot of punch. Housed in a petite family home (a former artist’s studio in Chelsea), this multi-purpose room includes a loft bed, two wall-mounted benches that transform into beds (bed-linen is concealed below), and a third, drawer bed (pictured here) which slides out when needed.

The addition of a large basement extension to this Edwardian house with bright, modern interiors freed up space on the upper floors for bright and capacious rooms, and created a more fluid layout ideal for family living.

Relocating to Oxford after 15 years in Japan and Hong Kong, the owners of this modern Victorian house put together a team of experts to create a mostly open-plan layout full of intriguing design details to capture the imagination.

Maximising light and space was essential to show the owner’s post-war art and sleek French art deco furniture to their best advantage in this elegant Pimlico flat. In the bedroom nineteenth-century photographs bought from Portobello Market hang above the bed, while built in bookshelves flank the windows.

My belief is that a bedroom should be clean and simple. We spend so much time in our bedrooms trying to unwind from the day. That’s why we should create a serene space for ourselves. This bedroom is both serene and cool. The black and white palette proves that you don’t to have a lot of colour to stand out. Image credit

This year we decided to give our bedroom a mini makeover. Sometimes a theme wall can do the trick as is the case here where Farrow & Ball’s Dix Blue was used as the background. The room feels light and airy and I won’t deny it, feminine too. The tall headboard of the upholstered bed and the brass accessories give it a luxurious look that is always a pleasure to come back to.

Feeling studious? A simple desk and an upholstered chair from Robert Kime creates a study area in the corner of this bedroom. The bedroom is elegant in its simplicity. The curtains are unlined with aquamarine silk from Claremont, with an inner curtain of linen. ‘When the sun shines, I draw the curtains, which throws a luminous light everywhere,’ says the owner. The walls are covered with tadelakt – a decorative lime-based plaster originally from Morocco.

In the London apartment of Venetian designer Alvise Orsini, ricepaper has been painted to match two eighteenth-century Chinese wall panels found at auction. ‘It is impossible to tell the difference,’ he says. The gilded bed, possibly by Georges Jacob (1739-1814) was found in Paris, while the eighteenth-century velvet bedcover, embroidered with gold thread, was acquired at a Christie’s textiles auction.

we just moved in to our new house and I was looking for a gorgeous design for a gilrly room specially I want my friends to come over. Then I saw these cute styles and I was wondering if you could suggest me what coul be better. My room is kinda small, maybe a size of a small veranda and I have my little window above. Our house is maroon so what would be the perfect color combination and design to this kind of room. Thank you and I’m hoping for your suggestions ?

When it comes to bunk beds for kids, three words: versatility, versatility, versatility. This stylish bed works as a traditional bunk, or easily separates into a loft bed with a twin bed underneath (or an ‘I shaped’ bunk bed) – perfect for awkward or small spaces.

We love that there are so many things that catch the eye in this room, from pirate ships and bunting to hot air ballons, fun prints, a stuffed octopus and paisley cushions. It’s just what’s needed to spark a child’s imagination.

A Louis XV-style bed and bedside table, a luxurious sheepskin rug, pink and gold wallpaper and a pearl chandelier. If you’ve got a little princess on your hands, this plush scheme will go down a storm.

There beach bedroom color ideas a useful mix of both open and closed storage. Contemporary pieces (such as the bunny nightlight and the grey acrylic storage stool) are mixed with vintage finds (including the wallpaper used for the tree and the antique children’s books) to create a unique room and one that complements the rest of the home. A sweet sanctuary.

The elementary-school years… they’re a delight. No longer an infant or toddler requiring middle-of-the-night care, but not yet a teen with a corresponding attitude, the elementary-age child, for the most part, is full of fun, love and whimsy. Bedrooms are our personal retreats. For me, a well designed bedroom needs to be effortless. I like how the masculine simplicity of this design is balanced against rich textures – the cashmere panelled walls and geometric carpet, offset dark polished woods and a platinum trimmed bed. The space isn’t grand, but with an understated colour palette and strong use of symmetry, it’s easily replicable – even if you don’t have the £199m needed to buy the Monaco Penthouse it sits within! Image credit

Anyone who has ever lived in a major city has probably had their share of small-bedroom woes. (Why is it that the room expected to hold the largest piece of furniture is often one of the tiniest?) It may seem like your options are confined to squeezing in a bed and—if you’re lucky—a nightstand, but there are ways to pack plenty of style into your limited space. Also, don’t overlook the benefits. “I actually prefer smaller bedrooms to larger ones,” says Portland, Oregon, designer Max Humphrey, whose own bedroom is on the small side. “They’re cozier and you don’t have to waste money furnishing a room with a seating area no one will ever use.” If you’re ready to embrace your small bedroom, check out Humphrey’s tips for making the most of it.

A traditional style, like the British colonial look shown here, doesn’t have to be stuffy. A few shots of color, interesting artwork and accessories, and a pretty upholstered headboard give this classic look fresh sensibilities. Plus, leaning a large mirror against the wall is a great way to add visual size to a small room.

Gray’s sedate vibe makes it especially good for the bedroom. But when decorating with gray, be sure to add plenty of interest to keep the look lovely, not grim. Take a few tips from the gorgeous room from Jean Stephane Beauchamp Design shown here; a strong area rug, an intriguing ceiling fixture, a luxurious velvet upholstered headboard, and a touch of fun in the skull-adorned throw pillow guarantee that this entirely-gray-and-white master bedroom is anything but boring.

Even at a young age, kids accumulate countless books and toys. Use them to add colour to the room by displaying them on a stylish bookcase or in a glass fronted cabinet. Marcus Peel for 1st-option.com

Tip: If your child wants a specific theme, aim for elements that can be interpreted multiple ways. Here, the parents chose to leave the monkeys, elephants, and clowns at the real circus and instead incorporated a tent theme that can be worked into other decor as the years go on.

By incorporating these storage solutions into your décor, you can let your belongings serve stylish double-duty.

For a girly look, choose heart bedding and pretty curtains to match. A pink table lamp continues the theme, while furniture in a light-coloured wood is more subtle and won?t overpower the girly furnishings and colour scheme.

Far from stark and uninspiring, stripped back wooden floors and plain white walls are the epitome of classic Scandinavian interior design. A personal favourite of mine, there is nothing more relaxing than natural light, contrasting textures and a hint of colour popping through in features such as the statement mint wood burner found in this Scandinavian haven. Simple changes make this interior’s style easy to achieve – think fur throws thrown over white bedding, painted floors with warmth added through sheepskin rugs, a series of monochrome finishes including framed typography prints and industrial elements such as this oversized light juxtaposed with untouched wood finishes found throughout. When it comes to bedroom decorating ideas, your options are endless. When nailing down your bedroom design, it’s helpful to start by tackling the more permanent things, like furniture. Artwork and photographs that put you at ease are a great addition (although some advise against having family photos around, as they can hinder that “sexy bedroom” vibe), and mirrors are a must-have if you use the space for dressing. When considering bedroom ideas, bedding is always important — your duvet and decorative pillows should play nicely with the paint color and bedroom wall decor, but can also be swapped out easily, which makes it easy to incorporate an interesting print or texture. Lastly, add some accessories to style your nightstand or dresser; just be careful not to go overboard — too many knickknacks can make your room feel cluttered and disorganized, which can actually cause sleep trouble. If you keep these bedroom decorating ideas and color considerations in mind you should be well on your way to creating the perfect bedroom design.

In order for bed drapery to hang properly, it’s best to install it on ceiling-mounted hardware. These black-and-white zigzag drapery panels coordinate perfectly with a wraparound track and drapery rings in a satin black finish.

Designate areas in a bedroom for specific purposes. A cozy bench by the window is a sunny spot for reading. Big baskets on a shelving unit house toys and books in a central location. A small table in the center of the room can be set for tea with friends or can be used as a work area for art projects or studying.

We tried having one fall asleep in our room, then moving them when we went to bed. It went like that for a long time. I finally just decided it was dumb to keep having them sleep in our room and that they needed their own rooms. It was a good choice. My girls are still close and we now have kids who get sleep and can function during the day. Yay!

Guys, in case you aren’t aware there are materials to paint a room that are not expensive..especially if you do it yourself. Also you can design a room based on someone else’s design. Your room doesn’t have to look EXACTLY like the designer’s. And, of course, you have to adjust a design to the size and shape of your room. Just putting that out there because there’s a very small chance that you will find a design that if made FOR you and your room..

I love the Scandi simplicity of this girl’s bedroom. Loft rooms are like a dream for most children – they are cosy, snug and a bit different. With this lovely white backdrop you can create a calm and uncluttered space – the mixture of white, pink and blue accessories make the room so modern. Current trends for girls’ bedrooms are veering away from the pink saturation approach of latter years, and moving towards something more creative and meaningful. You can decorate a room like this with slightly more nursery-like accessories to begin with and then up-style when your girl grows older. This can see your child through from baby, towards secondary school age – saving a fortune in decorating costs. On a final note, what’s not to love about the wonderful crepe lanterns and the cute lamb wall art?! Image Credit

Define each area with a clear purpose, so that every inch of space works hard. Here, a desk doubles up as a dressing table with built-in drawers and three pretty mirrors. This clever trundle bed is perfect for weekend sleepovers!

Every girl dreams of being a princess, at least at some point of their lives. But while princesses are real, fairytales aren’t and little girls can’t really go live “in a land far, far away”. Or can they?

There is no reason at all that a small bedroom – even a really tiny bedroom – can’t be every bit as gorgeous, relaxing, and just plain full of personality as a much larger space. (As proof, check out the elegant bedroom from Laura Stein Interiors shown here.) The trick to creating a lovely bedroom when square footage is limited is to make smart use of the space you do have, keep furnishings scaled to the room, and most of all, not be afraid to show off your decorating chops.

This dresser area is all about Disney’s Aladdin with its rich purple and gold tones as well as little statue and hanging decorations. Using pretty gold necklaces as curtain ties will add a different touch, enhance the theme and obviously keep the mirror visible. homeliteracyblueprint.

Most people want their bedroom to be a soothing, restorative retreat. If that’s your goal, then consider green and white for your palette. Add in botanical touches in the bedding, as in the room from Viscusi Elson Interior Design shown here, along with a showstopper sunburst mirror, stylish Roman shades, and cottage-casual white furniture, and the result is a room that calms your mind and refreshes your senses. Beautiful.

Hitting the books might be a chore, but in a room as fun as this, homework time just might get a little easier. A large desk and office chair, with storage bins beneath, create a work zone. But when it’s time for fun, ample seating, a fun color scheme, and whimsical touches turn this room into a space for giggling with friends.

Bring a little organisation to that growing shoe and accessories collection, before it migrates out of the wardrobe, and store them all on a colourful ladder shelving unit (you might need to paint a plain wooden frame). Modern and practical – this one’s a no-brainer.

Beds can make a bedroom layout feel very linear and square. You can prevent this by placing a comfortable upholstered chair on an angle in the corner. This softens the corner of the room and encourages circulation. Add a small side table, some artwork and an ottoman, if there’s room, to make a cozy and inviting place to relax.

In this DIY tutorial I also show several decor ideas for your desk, night stand or a dresser. One of these is a cactus with colored sand. You can buy already colored sand, or you can color it yourself using food coloring. This is such a fun and quick DIY decor idea and I love how it looks in the end. It also adds so much life to your teenage room.

Industrial style bedrooms: The key traits of the industrial style bedrooms are raw elements and unfinished textures. Exposed brickwork is a popular choice for this particular style and truly characterises the utilitarian look. You can also paint brickwork white, for a brighter effect. Aged wood fits the industrial look well, as do exposed pipes and ducts for that warehouse look. Iron bed frames are effective and metal bedside tables and copper light shades compliment and add cohesion.

If pink and purple don’t suit your child, look for girl’s room paint ideas that incorporate neutral hues or shades of blue. Gray wallpaper provides a blank canvas in this shared kid’s bedroom, allowing blue painted bunk beds and orange bedding to take center stage.

Arranging a small bedroom can be frustrating if you don’t first get an idea of where you would like everything to go. Before you call your friends to help you move your bed, grab a pencil and a piece of paper and sketch your roomlayout ideas. This will help you visualize your ideas before you put them into action.

The color white is an expansive and practical choice for a small bedroom. It keeps the space from looking too busy or boxed in. Using white or lighter colors combats the absence of large wall space or windows to brighten up the space.

For a designer-worthy look, choose a simple color palette of three to four neutral hues and a single, bright accent color like the eye-catching pink in this chic bedroom. Add interest with a variety of bold, trendy patterns and cozy textures like cotton, faux fur, knits, etc.

Scandinavian style bedrooms: Scandinavian style bedrooms are characterised by their simplicity, functionality and elegance. Earthy tones, beige and grey are juxtaposed with white painted walls. Hardwood floors can also be painted white and large wooden ottomans and vintage trunks are placed at the edge of beds, serving as attractive focal pieces and storage units. Soft lighting is an important element in Scandinavian style as natural lighting emphasises simplicity and elegance.

It doesn’t take much to set an exotic style, so a small room is perfect for a global look like the Moroccan showstopper here. Most people want their bedroom to be a soothing, restorative retreat. If that’s your goal, then consider green and white for your palette.
