wall decorations for kids rooms -christmas bedroom decor for girls

Everyones saying these rooms look like hospital rooms, or rooms for little kids, or adult women maybey. But there not, maybey one or two of them are, but these rooms really would be great teen rooms. For people who could afford it, and have enough money to where they don’t have to be practical. So like i said before, these rooms are really neat, just not practical, or probably not even affordable.

A favorite poem becomes art in this little girl’s room. And you don’t have to be an artist to create your own word art. Look for stencils and wall decals at crafts stores and online. Make sure the color of the lettering contrasts with the wall color to ensure your message will read loud and clear.

Serena Foyle, a music designer for firework displays divides her time between her home in Edinburgh and her family’s Cadogan Square flat in London where she lives with her artist brother William. A portrait of Serena, her sister Antonia and William as children, by artist Dick Smyly, hangs in Serena’s bedroom.

Oversize letters are scattered throughout interior designer Monica Damonte’s home near Genoa, Italy. Each one represents a different family member’s initial. The Mint List is a good source for vintage letters, with prices around £100 each.

As much as possible, Anne-Marie tried to match the wall colours to those that her grandmother had used, keeping the bedrooms the same subtle colours, while adding ‘ribbons’ of colour to outline the architecture and ‘dress the room’.

This bedroom (from Marks & Spencer) has two key trends. One: Mismatched patterns in muted colours go really well together. And two: If you’re not ambitious enough to try this bookshelf nightstand, simply stack some books to create an ad hoc table.

For a simple window treatment for a child?s room, opt for a patterned Roman blind, choosing a blackout lining if you need to cut the light. Always fit a safety device to secure blind cords out of the way of children.

We’ve been very (no pun intended) impressed with the quality of furniture at shops like Very.com and Littlewoods of late – don’t dismiss them for good design. This bed (French Kiss) from the latter was reduced to just £184 in the sale. The bed curtains are Yolo Stripe (£14 a metre at John Lewis) while the rug (Lappljung Ruta) is £55 at Ikea.

WALLS Paper-backed linen wallcovering, ‘Heathered Linens’ (tea rose), 147cm wide, £112 a metre, from Phillip Jeffries. Curtains, ‘Maremma Rigato’ (natural/black), linen, £144 a metre; with appliqué patches in ‘Volterra’ (latte, pine), linen, £112 a metre; and ‘Bolgheri’ (black), linen, £187 a metre; all from C&C Milano. Silkscreen print, Bloomsbury Vase, 51 x 40.5cm, $75, by Wayne Pate. Wooden frame, ‘Milano’ (black), 70 x 50cm, £35, from Habitat.

Finding bedroom ideas to work in the space you have isn’t always easy. You might have a small or awkward space to work with, or sloping walls that get in the way. Bedrooms need to incorporate various pieces of furniture, or built-in storage, in order to give you a relaxing place to sleep as well as hold your various possessions and clothing. But don’t worry, there’s always a bedroom design that will work with the space you have. Get inspiration from the thousands of pictures from designers and stylists on Houzz; even if you’re struggling with a small bedroom you can find space saving or decorating ideas that could work in your space.

What a view! Admittedly, only a lucky few can call an ocean front bedroom their own. However, this bedroom is not just about the view. In my opinion it perfectly interprets what I call the key elements of successful bedroom design: clean lines and uncluttered surfaces in combination with warm materials, rich textures and soothing colours. Add a few pools of light and you got yourself the perfect recipe for a cosy haven of relaxation. In this particular bedroom they took it a further notch up by adding the element of fire, creating a truly harmonious environment and perfect balance. Image credit

Girls bedroom ideas like these cater to the modern trend and mindset of the growing girls. The neon pink accent wall looks very vibrant and attractive. The chest board gives ample place for storage. Even the side table and the grey and pink rug are instrumental in giving a smart look to the room.

When asked whether she and Bunny felt intimidated, Emma’s response is: ‘Dom understands the value of interior design – and what other man would be happy with a pink bedroom?’ ‘Everyone was quite surprised that I jumped on the pink,’ says Dominic.

In this stylish children’s bedroom designed by Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay, a fixed and shaped box pelmet with curtains in a pale blue fabric is a smart choice as it will not be quickly outgrown when the children become teenagers. The overall effect is modern and elegant.

With a characteristic respect for the fabric of this classic Georgian house in Bath, designer Patrick Williams has carefully transformed it into a welcoming home and B&B. Much of the work was about revealing what was there but they have also enriched the house. When the project started, Patrick spoke to several reclamation yards asking them to put aside any suitable elements for a Georgian house, and he also trawled Ebay. This bedroom features an original exposed stone fireplace, seen on the left.

In this glamorous bedroom at Soho House Berlin, furniture is scaled up for the vast rooms. (note the unusually tall headboard.) Designer Susie Atkinson chose bold colours: burgundy and Dorothy Draper-inspired turquoise.

The main bedroom of this Richmond mansion flat designed by Johnny Holland of Hackett Holland is decorated in dark colours to exaggerate its cosiness while the range of textures create a feeling of luxury. One corner has been hived off to form a walk-in wardrobe, which is papered with a tropical Ananbô wallpaper and overlaid with a grid of panelling to give it added depth.

Designed exclusively for PBteen with teen artist and fashion designer Isabella Rose Taylor, this so-chic pillow cover captures her edgy yet playful design aesthetic. DETAILS YOU’LL APPRECIATE Made of 100% jersey knit cotton. Reverses to solid white. Hidden zipper …

On paper, this room shouldn’t be lovely at all – tiny, with barely any room for even a bed, and crammed with bright colours and clashing patterns. But in reality, this space, which I shot for my book Home for Now, is actually one of my favourite bedrooms I’ve ever worked in. This gorgeous sea green hue breathes life into this bijou space, whilst ingenious storage ideas, such as using a wall-mounted telephone table instead of a bedside unit, and hanging storage pockets on the wall, make best use of the available space. It proves that if you have courage in your design convictions, you can make anything work, whatever the challenge. Image credit

Repurpose an ordinary bookshelf by turning it into a kid-friendly storage space. Here, colorful bins provide an easy place to organize kid’s stuff. Once your little one knows where everything belongs, she’ll be more likely to clean up after playtime on her own. Reserve the top shelf of the bookcase to display collectibles and picture frames. Tight storage space under the bookshelf can be reserved for oversized coloring books or posters.

Take a leaf out of the Vidago Palace Hotel in Portugal’s book by mixing masculine (sleek, heavy furniture and dark colours) and feminine design elements (pastels, fresh flowers) for a beautifully balanced room that’s strong, yet oh-so chic.

Sometimes all it takes is a few key accessories to give your bedroom a style overhaul: a striking chandelier, a feature mirror and, our personal favourite, a neon sign above the bed – the contemporary style of which contrasts beautifully with the more traditional touches.

Turn your little one’s room into a storage oasis with built-ins. Here, a custom-designed built-in window seat includes storage space for everything from books to toys to clothing. In each cubby, a pull-out basket waits to easily hide toys and unsightly cords. Not shown, a large cabinet next to the bed provides more storage for art supplies and games. And if those areas aren’t quite enough, the spacious closet provides more storage space for shoes, clothing, accessories, and toys.

Vincent Frey is the grandson of the eponymous Pierre Frey founder (and the current deputy manager of the French fabric and furnishing company). Vincent and his wife Bianca hired architect Marika Dru, an old school friend of Vincent’s, to work on their Parisian flat, although decided to decorate it – including son Vasco’s room – themselves. We love the mix of a grand painting with a quirky hanging basket.

I love so much about this baby/toddler room interior. The bunting across the blind really sets a tone for the room and I love the lights hanging off of the ladder, they add a touch of warmth and cosiness to the room – which is exactly how every baby or child’s room should feel. I love that the floors and walls are bright. There’s a blue, white and grey theme which is fantastic because it suits a young baby as well as being grown up enough for a toddler. We’re re-doing our boys’ rooms this year and this image among others is where we’re taking inspiration from. I plan to use a light laminate floor like here and opt for light walls too, contrasting it by using colourful accessories. I think that when it comes to children’s interiors it’s fine to want to go modern, but it’s important to make sure that the room both reflects your child’s personality and is fun and young at the same time. I it is pretty low of you to post that you are giving a certain number of hacks and when we click on them we only get about half. To get the rest we have to share, REALLY? Next thing you know, we will have to pay for them. I have seen most of them and the ones I haven’t will eventually come up with no requirements. It’s not like you came up with these yourself and have exclusive rights to them,

I love the cool, calm feeling of interior stylist Pella Hedeby’s bedroom, with its abundance of natural light, crisp white linens and beautiful monochrome accents. The cladding on the wall behind the end offers the perfect framed display units for artwork and scented candles, and I always love a low console table at the foot of the bed for displaying coffee table books and keeping rows of footwear organised.

bible verses for teenage girls bedroom walls |white bedrooms with a splash of color

We love this look because of the fresh take on what could potentially be a period interior. The yellow wall brings it bang up-to-date, freshening the space and bringing the whole room to life. The antique touches of mismatched frames, the oversized wooden bed, stripped back floorboards and the old chandelier contrast perfectly with the statement wall giving it oodles of character. The picture rail breaks up the room giving it plenty of height but the patchwork quilt, rug and cushions keep the room cosy. Image credit

I prefer the cottage/farmhouse look in my home, though I live in a patio apartment. The bedroom above is typical of how I decorate. I’m really into the black, red, gray and white color combination. Also, this bedroom has a lot of textural elements that give it character and charm. The rug on the floor. And the wicker trunk at the end of the bed. I also love anything vintage, and having a piece of furniture that perhaps belonged to grandma fits right in. The red blanket on the wicker trunk looks handy to pull up when you’re reading a book or taking an afternoon nap. My blog is about coziness – so my rooms have to include that element to encompass all that I love about decorating. This is a cozy room. And that’s what I love most about it. Image credit

Baby nurseries don’t have to be swathed in pastels and animal motifs. For a more sophisticated look, start with a foundation of warm and soothing grays, and use geometric or abstract patterns. In this nursery, a single pattern on the window treatments and bed skirt furthers the minimalist vibe. Look for ways to take advantage of every nook in a kid’s rooms. Here, a changing table tucks perfectly into a small alcove, leaving more available floor space.

The pink and cream in this room is a little girl’s dream. But the sophisticated armoire and chandelier mean that it will suit her for years to come, and can be easily updated by changing the bedding and accessories.

This children’s bedroom in a Sussex newbuild belonging to architect Ptolemy Dean is nestled towards the top of the house. The cosy sloping walls are covered in painted wood panelling and decorated with a few choice framed prints. The look is finished with witty touches – a dart board and flags from around the world hung like bunting.

This bedroom is masterclass on eclectic style. The bedroom wallpaper (try here or House of Hackney for similar) clashes with the tartan and floral bedding, yet the blue-green colour scheme, accented with pops of hot pink ties it all together. The bed might be ornate, but the muted colour adds just the right amount of neutral tones, which allows the eye to rest.

Ok.. these ideas are cool. BUT im 14 and i personally would not pick any of these for my room. Bold colors like these are going to go out of style. They seem cold and bare. The rooms are too big. A normal room would be around 11×12. I personally will not want bold colors, i wouldn’t want them because say when im 17 i dont want people to think im imature. A room should yes desribe a persons personallity but a room should transition easily from young teen to older teen. And people dont want to redo their room every year or two…sorry for being so harsh.

This bedroom in the Florescu’s house belongs to Lizzie and Ion’s son Leopold. Pattern – and therefore fun – is injected through the blind, made of Jane Churchill’s ‘Deverell Stripe’. This room is full of personal touches, for example, the model of a Cadogan Square house was made by Leopold himself.

A mezzanine bedroom is the ideal solution for a small space, especially if you fit in a built-in wardrobe behind the bed. But designer Maurizio Pellizzoni had to jump through several hoops to get planning permission for the staircase, which links the mezzanine bedroom to the sitting room. First the staircase had to be craned in, then the council had to close the street while giant glass panels for the bedroom were hoisted up into place. Maurizio refers to this project, done for his friend Andrew Daniell in London’s Shoreditch, as the James Bond flat, because of its technology and slick looks. It’s a bachelor pad, but the striped blanket adds a soft splash of colour in an otherwise monochromatic scheme (find a similar one from Welsh weavers Melin Tregwynt, £95 at John Lewis).

This bedroom is all about the statement canopy bed. Dressed with delicate, soft pink linen drapes and fresh white bedding, it creates the perfect romantic sanctuary to while away a lazy weekend in the country with a good book and good company. The rest of the room is kept light and neutral with pale rustic wooden floor boards and coordinating soft furnishings. Image credit

This bedroom belongs to Vanessa and James Macdonald’s son, Rupert, at their family home in the rolling hills of Oxfordshire. The red gingham of the headboard and armchair compliments the patterned red and white curtains. Soft neutral colours in the carpet and on the walls allows the red to pleasantly pop rather than overwhelm the room.

An organized and clutter-free bedroom doesn’t have to consist of clear storage containers and rows of school-style cubbies. A tall and simple bookshelf consisting of both drawers and shelves can showcase her favorite toys and collectibles, while keeping small trinkets safely stored. Design by Susie Fougerousse

As in their dining room and their upstairs hallway, the faux panelling in the spare room of Tarquin Bilgen and wife Isobel’s Suffolk farmhouse was painted by Alan Dodd. Prints and paintings of mountains, such as the one above the chest of drawers, provide a visual theme. Like the lamp? Vaughan do a similar sang-de-boeuf Chinese ceramic lamp base, £450 and shade, £177.

A pop-up play tent or tee-pee is an adorable – not to mention fun – addition to a kids’ room. Take this idea from kids’ wallpaper and fabric specialists Hibou Home and make your own with fabric and string.

The bedroom of decorator Emma Burns of Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler is quintessentially English in both its gentle antique style and its ‘make do and mend’ execution. ‘The bedhead is covered in an ancient patchwork made from my mother’s old dresses. I originally used it as a tablecloth,’ she says. ‘For me the bedroom is as important as the sitting room; it is a place of refuge that I use for resting and reading. I like to fill it with books, pictures and armchairs. I’ve kept a feeling of softness by using a very subtle stippling effect on the walls, and some translucent blinds from Chelsea Textiles under the curtains, which allow a diffuse light into the room. My linen is from Volga Linen.’

This country-style bedroom features a pretty bed canopy in green and white, setting the colour scheme for the space. A pair of Sixties China table lamps and a collection of framed William Blake prints on the walls add character.

Breaking away from traditional girl colors, this room has a modern vibe with its shades of orange — ranging from sherbet to pumpkin — and shocks of electric blue. Girl appeal is added with floral prints, which are graphic rather than flowery, keeping with the modern design.

Kids love to climb up into a raised bed but this option will also create extra storage space underneath or, as in this case, a little play area, decorated here with a highly textured rug and sweet wallsticker.

Have a small space? This kids’ room designed by Eve Mercier packs a lot of punch. Housed in a petite family home (a former artist’s studio in Chelsea), this multi-purpose room includes a loft bed, two wall-mounted benches that transform into beds (bed-linen is concealed below), and a third, drawer bed (pictured here) which slides out when needed.

A strip of Anatolian silk inspired the palette for this London bedroom; it was used as a feature panel in the curtains and the colours are echoed by the vintage Indian bedcover. Maria Speake’s ability to resuscitate what others might view as detritus is charted in her book Reclaiming Style (Ryland Peters & Small, £19.99).

This lovely – but tiny – home was once a library. Now it’s a testament to good use of small space, thanks to the designers at The Works. Notice the built-in cabinets and the recessed, upholstered “headboard” nook. Beautiful and genius.

Sugar and spice and all things nice, that’s what little girls are made of… So a cacophony of florals, butterflies and birds really works. Particularly when more traditional prints, like the wallpaper here, are combined with more modern ones.

This bedroom in Soho Farmhouse features wood panelling. Mixing bare wood with white painted panels gives the room texture as well as a rustic feel. The pale scheme includes framed prints and large rugs.

If we were to have a house in the Hamptons this is how we imagine it would be decorated, but let’s face it, the combination of wall cladding, print bedding and a picture wall of pretty illustrations would look good anywhere.

The dream bedroom for teens, black comforter with large pink flowers on it and gold stars on the wall. Where did that comforter and sham set come from?? M daughter loves it and I cannot seem to find anything similar. Beautiful room!

Classic-boat enthusiast and creative talent Katie Fontana’s love of craftsmanship and aesthetic simplicity resulted in the bespoke kitchen design company Plain English as well a charming houseboat and boathouse. The cushions in the guest house are from The Bell Jar in Norwich.

Designer Candice Olson created the ultimate girl’s getaway by turning a small bay window into the background for an inspiring workstation and craft area. The white built-in desk unit provides plenty of drawers, cubbies and cabinets for keeping supplies tucked away and out of sight. Dramatic magenta track curtains create an easy separation between workspace and sleep space.

It doesn’t take much to set an exotic style, so a small room is perfect for a global look like the Moroccan showstopper here. Just three elements – the silver pendants, the silver pouf, and the fantastic bed – are all it takes. If none of those are within your reach, consider adding an exotic throw pillow or two to your bed.

Proof that grown-up taste can co-exist with kids’ rooms? Bodil Blain’s daughter’s bedroom in Bayswater (designed by Fiona Parke) which features a Damien Hirst artwork above the Kelly Wearstler-inspired bed.

A golden rule of decorating is that you need to have neutral elements (white, or wood) to let the eye rest. Here, the rule is turned upside down, with the simple bed taking a backseat to the more unusual wardrobe, chair and wall art.

I have seen lots of pretty string light ideas for the bedroom lately, but most of them do not actually show you have to get to cool DIY lighting effect shown in the photo. Yes, girls, this dreamy canopy can be yours for your bed… You need this look in your bedroom today, start making your dreamy DIY canopy this weekend! If you want something cool and crafty for your own bedroom or are trying to make a teen girl’s bedroom the most awesome one ever, this is the project for you.

For me, the bedroom is a space that needs to be calming, simple and light. I hate clutter around me when I want to sleep so the minimalism of this room appeals to me. I also want my bedroom to be as bright as possible in the morning to motivate me at the start of the day, so the white walls, bedlinen and the painted floor are the perfect combination as they allow the light to bounce around the room. I love the natural touches of the bulbs, the raw wood of the bedside table, the baskets by the fireplace and the beautiful crocheted blanket, which add touches of character to the room. This room is the perfect blank canvas for rest and relaxation. Image credit

i like the rooms I just feel like a lot of them are girly when not all girls are all about the pink and lacy frill thing. i also looked at the boys rooms and i liked more of those than i did of these–but the one i really liked on this was the one with the ladder that led to this cool loft thing–it would need to be a different color but it was pretty cool ?

wow, thanks for this post. I like the one with the stairs. It’s almost the same picture I have in mind years ago but never given a chance to have it in real picture. Anyway, happy to drop by and see your posts.

Brown, white, and beige colours give Sarah Stewart’s bedroom at her refurbished 1786 cottage in Herefordshire a pared-down feel, emphasized by minimalist light fixtures. Her raised bed is a unique way to give the room a fluid sense of space.

‘I wanted the house to be comfortable above all, and for me colour is very much part of that,’ says Jacquie Rufus-Isaacs of her eighteenth-century farmhouse in the Cotswolds. With the help of her friend, decorator Scott Maddux, she has enhanced the house with a slightly unusual palette, which is no surprise as Jacquie’s real love is painting. She has a studio in a converted farm building where she works on her vibrant, expressive still lifes. Furnishings are equally various and include a sofa is upholstered in a Lelièvre stripe in the main bedroom, inherited antiques, junk-shop finds and a selection of paintings. These range from eighteenth-century landscapes to works by living artists including Barbara Stuart and Ken Howard. Jacquie’s eye ensures a harmonious composition.

The bedroom in this hotel designer’s west London home features a portrait of the owner, aged 13 by the artist Primo Potenza, which hangs above a mahogany table. Beside it stands a 1930s découpage screen by the surrealist painter and theatrical designer Leonor Fini.

Designer Guy Goodfellow has made the window a feature in this manor-house bedroom in Devon. Its casement is painted in Rose of Jericho’s ‘Mountain Green’, framed by thick linen curtains and with a smart seat underneath. The ceiling is painted with floral motifs, giving the appearance of pargeting. To replicate these murals, try the painter Dawn Reader.

Interior designer Samantha Todhunter created this girl’s room in a home in south London by combining a stunning bespoke bed, made like an extended button-back sofa, with a fabulous feature blind, prints and a zebra print rug. One word springs to mind: fun.

This blend of pink and purple is perfect for little girl’s bedroom colors that will grow with the child. Give the feminine shades a unique twist with thoughtful application. Pair it with soft neutrals and hints of periwinkle for a classic-meets-glam vibe. This room’s lavender walls, window treatments, and throw pillows work well for a teen, and later on it can suit a guest room. The classic furniture pieces suit either purpose, and simple switches can introduce more subdued accent colors.

The main bedroom of Jo Vestey’s Oxfordshire farmhouse has Jo’s photographs on display and a Japanese light on the desk. Exposed beams, wooden floorboards and the desk contrast nicely with the white rug and walls, giving an overall look that is both clean and rustic.

Combining classical proportions and traditional furnishings with the informal elements of family life, this house in Cornwall has proved to be the perfect acquisition for its owners. In the past 100 years, the house has been a hotel and a Christian refuge, and even divided into flats. Despite these changes of use and fortune, it has survived intact, complete with its marble chimneypieces, panelled doors and acanthus cornices.

This room has a beautiful vintage/industrial style. A bedroom to me is a place to rest and to surround myself with calmness. This needs to be reflected in the decor. Nothing should draw too much attention. It needs to be laid back, full of natural materials, casual and cosy.

If you’re afraid of mixing pattern, start with stripes. A variety of sizes in the same colour adds interest, yet fits with the calm atmosphere of a bedroom. Designer Paolo Moschino chose a nautical colour scheme of blue and white for this fisherman’s cottage in Cornwall.

My belief is that a bedroom should be clean and simple. We spend so much time in our bedrooms trying to unwind from the day. That’s why we should create a serene space for ourselves. This bedroom is both serene and cool. The black and white palette proves that you don’t have to have a lot of colour to stand out. Image credit

In a valley on the Waddesdon Manor estate sits Flint House, an award-winning example of contemporary architecture commissioned by Jacob Rothschild. David Mlinaric, a long-time collaborator of the Rothschilds, helped with the interiors, acquiring the odd new piece of furniture and dipping into the Waddesdon storeroom, known as ‘the Pink Shed’, for others. In the main bedroom a feeling of cosseting warmth has been created in this otherwise white interior by painting two walls a rich teal and adding a large dark carpet in a sumptuous fabric. The sceme is tied together by the dark valance, while a convex mirror by Collier Webb adds sparkle and reflects the landscape.

The power of three. If you keep the rest of your room plain, have three statement touches to make the room pop. Here, it’s the artwork above the bed, the pink pillowcases and the bright stools. Simple, no?

Hola, necesitaria q me aconsejaras.

HOLA! ESTAMOS POR RENOVAR LA PINTURA EN EL DORMITORIO DE NUESTRO HIJO QUE TIENE 8 AÑOS. EL LO QUIERE PINTADO DE ROJO. ES UNA HABITACION CHICA, POR LO QUE PENSAMOS QUE NO ES CONVENIENTE PINTARLO TOOOODO DE ESE COLOR, SI UNA PARED. HASTA EL MOMENTO TIENE LOS ACCESORIOS EN CELESTE Y AZUL. LOS PISOS SON BEIGE MUY CLARO. LA PREGUNTA ES: CON QUE COLOR COMBINO EL ROJO DE LA PARED DE LA CABECERA??? HELP!!!!! Ah!

I liked alot of the room designs you have here but I think most of them are extremley unrealistic, like most girls don’t have rooms that size….most of those rooms were massive and had stairs etc. But I did like the designs!

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there. The furniture in this bedroom was sourced from local antiques shops and markets. There’s a few things that are key to how you feel when you walk into your bedroom – mainly it comes down to floors, walls, furniture and decoration. If you’re renting you may not be able to touch the floors or walls and will have to work with what you have. If it’s your own house however, you may be wondering which colour to paint the walls so they go with your floors, or so you can make a small bedroom appear bigger. Pay attention to these elements in the photos.

When it came to designing this Chelsea home, Stephen Eicker most enjoyed working on this bedroom, belonging to the owner’s two sons, aged three and six. His starting point was the eldest’s obsession with trains, and this led him to the wallpaper by The New Yorker cartoonist Saul Steinberg, which he teamed with a turquoise carpet with red-and-white fabrics. Accessorised with vintage toy trains, the room is original and playful without being overdone or saccharine.

I really like the bedroom design with the built in bed with moldings on the side and the shelf ledge on top. Do you have any additional pictures of this bedroom? I would like to have a built in like this constructed for my daughter but would like to see more images.

For Richard Hanlon, the plan to buy a holiday home in India with his friend Trish McFarlane led to the ambitious construction of Bujera Fort, now a spectacular palace hotel in Udaipur. Arriving today, up the rutted track that leads out of Bujera village, it is difficult to believe that this beautiful building, its outer walls frothing with white bougainvillea, was only recently finished. A bedroom is decorated with traditional Indian furniture combined with English fabrics such as the floral chintz on the headboard.

I all honesty, I don’t see how this is supposed to help make the most out of a small room. First of all, they just look like normal bedrooms. And anyay, I guess it’s not what I googled for. The reason I was looking for a post on how to maximize on small room space is because right now my bedroom is also my living room is also my office. I live in NY and I am SURE I am not the only person with this sort of living arrangement. Real estate costs. And quite frankly we are paying for cubic inch of space in a room here in the city, meaning loft beds and over head storage and really anything and everything to maximize on space and provide order to a multi-purpose room. I don’t need to make my small space LOOK bigger. For what? I need it to feel functionally bigger, since I can’t actually have it bigger.

To make what was a juvenile, childish girl’s room more appropriate for a growing tween, its walls were painted a deep shade of violet, album cover-inspired art was hung to create a focal point, vintage lighting was installed on the ceilings and the walls, and women’s fashion fabrics were used in upholstered accents.

‘I got it off Ebay for £200’ says designer Diana Sieff of the four-poster bed in the bedroom of her Oxfordshire home. ‘I like using big furniture in small spaces, because it gives the illusion that the room is bigger. Although I did have to take the finials off the bed posts, as they hit the ceiling.’ One of Diana’s trademarks is to forego curtains in favour of shutters. ‘I had them made,’ she explains, ‘which I prefer because they are minimal and less light-excluding.’ The walls are covered in – ‘Adams Eden’ by Lewis & Wood.

Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure this child’s bedroom in Gytha Nuttall’s south London home is flooded with natural light. The internal windows also emphasises a feeling of height, which is much-needed here – the structure of an office space in a former schoolhouse was adapted to create this ‘flat within a flat’.

For those who have large space to spare, it is best to design a kid’s bedroom that is as large as possible. It gives them much needed freedom and there is a far lesser chance of him bumping his head into anything. This fashionable design in Grey, white and yellow does just that.

Inspired by the Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern, House & Garden’s decoration editor Gabby Deeming created bespoke wall coverings that pay homage to the joie de vivre of the artist’s paper-cuts with the help of the design team at de Gournay. Matisse himself hung many of the works on the walls of his own Paris apartment. Positioning each leaf individually allows you to create a wall design that complements your furniture.

This simple and beautiful room though small in size, looks enticing. The zebra print and the pink decals impart a novel idea. The wardrobe and the night stand are just right for the size of the room and provide enough storage capacity.

No matter what piques your daughter’s interest, she probably needs plenty of storage for her treasures. Take a cue from the kitchen for organization. Kitchen cabinetry works well in girl’s bedroom designs. Here, semicustom cabinets act as a built-in around the bed, and drawers beneath the bed take advantage of untapped storage space.

Despite several attempts at finding the perfect paint colour, designer Fiona Parke and owner Bodil Blain settled on ‘New Silver’ from Sanderson. A soft gold headboard, chevron throw and pink patterned cushions add personality to the soft, oh so chic scheme.

Create a simple canopy without a four-poster. Measure a piece of fabric to suspend over the length and width of the bed. Sew (or use fusible web) side panels along the corners of the fabric. Suspend over the corners of the bed with hooks screwed into the ceiling.

When decorating a tween girl’s room, don’t be afraid to pack it with pattern. Introduce different prints by layering patterns similar in color yet different in scale. An excellent rule of thumb is to stick with one large-, one medium- and one small-scale pattern. This will ensure the layered look appears balanced rather than busy.

Dreamy rainbow string art. Make “dream” just like this or any word you like by printing out your type and setting your nails for the word you want. Make this for your room and look at it every morning when you wake up – what an inspiring way to start or end your day!

The stuff of dreams. Author and designer Paul Golding spent seven years restoring this this exquisite 18th century palazzo in Malta. ‘I couldn’t resist its romantic decay!’ Built by the distinguished Maltese architect Francesco Sammut, the bedroom is stenciled with a pattern copied from a Carmelite convent in Medina. The chandelier is from Julian Chichester, while the magnificent gesso and silver gilt bed and table were commissioned from Brighton-based furniture maker Lincoln Cato.
