Paired with white furniture, bedding and accessories, teal wall paint makes a chic splash in this cozy retreat. A wall-mounted flat screen TV is blended into a gallery wall for a design that’s both stylish and functional.

Geometric details like the striped rug and check curtains complement the adventure-inspired gallery wall. New cabinets add tons of toy storage and a bright yellow slipcover transforms an old futon from the basement.

A school uniform chair would be a truly special feature for any child or teenager’s room – uniform, sports kit, brownies, cubs, a favourite party dress, any outfit can become an eye-catching piece of furniture with a little imagination. Here, I used a digital fabric design and combined it onto my favourite style of armchair. This would work equally well on any style of chair, sofa or interior furnishing! I think this is a wonderfully quirky design that features a fabulous twist on a special part of your child or teenager’s life, making sure that the memories of their happiest years live on forever… Custom-designed chairs, lampshades, cushions and wallpaper designs are a fantastic edition to any child’s bedroom and provide high quality, extremely comfortable pieces that will make your bedroom design truly unique and memorable.

Here’s a small bedroom idea with staying power: Hang window treatments closer to the ceiling to make a room feel taller. Don’t believe us? Have a partner hold up curtains to give it a try. It’s amazing to see the instant change such a small fix can make.

If you’re searching for teen bedroom ideas, think about what your teen loves and see their bedroom through their perspective. A teenager has a different view of a bedroom than an adult — beyond a place to sleep, it’s where a teen escapes from the world of demands and rules.

While adults prefer a space that’s calm and understated, teens appreciate vibrantly colored, high energy rooms. The wall is the biggest area you can work with in a bedroom. Some of the best teen bedroom ideas involve the walls. Here are our favorite:

Not sure if a neutral palette is attention-worthy? Think beyond the expected. Sophisticated florals on the walls, metallic accents, and an elegant light fixture are just enough to make this room sing.

Smart lighting choices have a big effect on how a small bedroom feels. Soft light coming from several different directions will blur the edges of your room and, in turn, make it feel larger. Helpful Hint: Soften up your overhead light. Use a frosted shade and a lower wattage bulb to create a more calming ambience. Photo courtesy by Erin Southwell.

What fun to see into your girls room! It will also be fun to see the progress you make in them. Maybe you could of had the girls toss a coin over the large room. Leaving it up to chance then dissolves any bitterness towards a parent who made the calll. I heard this parenting advice years ago and it works great in situations like this where there seems to be no right answer. I might add though firstborn children had a special inheritance in bible days. They are the “first fruit” from the womb and God treats them a bit differently. You may want to look it up, it is a bit hard for me to explain. Just so you know I am a middle child, so I painting for teenage room ideas those issues! I am a mom of 4 boys so I know it is hard to treat them equally, and also realize they are different! We have an en-suite bedroom with a bathroom which my oldest used until he moved away from college. Then my 2nd oldest moved in and will be there until he moves out. And so on it will go. It works for us! Have a lovely weekend!

Be bold with pattern mixing in a little girl’s bedroom accessories to create a space with youthful energy. After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed space perfect for entertaining. This twin guest bedroom is decorated with a pastel pink colour scheme featuring white gauzy canopies, making for a pretty and sophisticated room that would be perfect as a girls’ bedroom.

On paper, this room shouldn’t be lovely at all – tiny, with barely any room for even a bed, and crammed with bright colours and clashing patterns. But in reality, this space, which I shot for my book Home for Now, is actually one of my favourite bedrooms I’ve ever worked in. This gorgeous sea green hue breathes life into this bijou space, whilst ingenious storage ideas, such as using a wall-mounted telephone table instead of a bedside unit, and hanging storage pockets on the wall, make best use of the available space. It proves that if you have courage in your design convictions, you can make anything work, whatever the challenge. Image credit

Prior to this tween girl’s bedroom redesign, the walls were covered in bright lilac paint, which gave it more of a little girl’s identity. In order to make it cool enough for a tween yet classic enough for parents, the space would be painted a dark shade of violet, the dated wall-to-wall carpet would be replaced with gray-toned vinyl plank flooring and the childish furniture would be swapped out for colorful vintage pieces.

Fiona Shelburne has a lot of experience decorating country homes, so she knew what she had to do when it came to this Hampshire home. The beautifully crafted four-poster bed, made by Richard Phillips, has red Le Cuona linen curtains; to lift the mood of the room, the inner fabric is the Claremont print ‘Plumettes’. Two bedside tables by Paolo Moschino for Nicholas Haslam are surmounted by French grisaille-painted mirrors. ‘The velvety carpet from Tim Page is lovely underfoot, says Fiona Shelburne, ‘but it has to be vacuumed all in one direction, rather like a cricket pitch. It looks its best covered with masses of tiny footprints at the end of the family weekend.’

Love the photos, really gave me some ideas on decorating my next flat. The bedroom in the new property is quite small but the walls are painted in a cream colour – will be easy to pick the right elements to decorate it. Since I’m a tenant, I’ll have to find non-destructive ways of decorating the place. I will also have to think how I’ll remove and clean the place when my tenancy comes to an end, but this isn’t a problem since London is full of shops and I have plenty of things to choose from.

Ok.. these ideas are cool. BUT im 14 and i personally would not pick any of these for my room. Bold colors like these are going to go out of style. They seem cold and bare. The rooms are too big. A normal room would be around 11×12. I personally will not want bold colors, i wouldn’t want them because say when im 17 i dont want people to think im imature. A room should yes desribe a persons personallity but a room should transition easily from young teen to older teen. And people dont want to redo their room every year or two…sorry for being so harsh.

This gorgeous girl’s room has hand painted, full room wall mural with wooden floors. The atmosphere in this room is enough to give wings to the imagination to your little fairy. I won’t be surprised to find her in the land of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, fast asleep in the garden, waiting for her prince. The traditional bed and the furniture enhance the mystic feel of the atmosphere.

Guys, in case you aren’t aware there are materials to paint a room that are not if you do it yourself. Also you can design a room based on someone else’s design. Your room doesn’t have to look EXACTLY like the designer’s. And, of course, you have to adjust a design to the size and shape of your room.

¿No te inspira ninguno?

‘Scandinavians live for light. Inside Scandinavian houses it is summer all the time,’ says designer Lars Bolander in his book Scandinavian Design (Vendome Press). It is certainly true in his little 1800s farmhouse in Sweden. The home took a year to renovate, including breaking through the original chimney to create a fireplace in the main bedroom. The furniture is a mix of Swedish and English, while the walls are lined with ‘F124 Forget-me-not Spring in Pink’ from Chelsea Textiles.

Thanks to a bold color scheme of violet, black, white and gold, this designer-caliber tween girl’s room is as appealing to the tween herself as it is to her young parents. From the royal palette to the vintage pieces and fashion-inspired fabrics, everything in the room can transition well as the tween girl becomes a full-fledged teenager. To invest wisely with tween room updates, emphasize color and pattern instead of themes.

This traditional guest bedroom at Wardington Manor in Oxfordshire features a classic four-poster bed and a small sofa with a box-pleated skirt. Character is added to the neutral floor and walls with soft furnishings such as a wall tapestry, rug and fabric bed canopy. The arrangements of cut flowers such as the one featured in this room are displayed throughout the house and sold as part of garden designers The Land Gardeners’ new business venture, which uses the manor as HQ.

This attic bedroom in west London designed by Hackett Holland is proof that you can make any awkward space stylish. It features London street map wallpaper and a sweet reading with a porthole window through which to gaze out (pictured out of shot, see it up close here).

In a spare room at a Belgian art collector’s London home by Feddy van Zevenbergen, the headboard is covered in a Jane Shelton fabric. The panelling was too damaged to restore, so Freddy lined the walls with a dark herringbone cashmere, which contrasts with the pale Italian marble of the bathroom behind.

Combining classical proportions and traditional furnishings with the informal elements of family life, this house in Cornwall has proved the perfect acquisition for its owners. Before moving in, they asked the interior designer, architectural historian and natural paint expert Edward Bulmer for his help. ‘Edward has a marvellous eye,’ says the owner. He has a great feel for colour and he is fantastic at arranging furniture and pictures.’ For his part, Edward says that these are delightful clients, and are unusually united on aesthetic decisions. Despite their very different backgrounds, they share a taste for the modest grandeur of English country-house style, for antique rugs, traditional chintz and books. The wall is painted in ‘Ochre’ from Edward Bulmer Natural Paints.

Give your daughter the royal treatment with a canopied four poster, and pick up on her interests, if she’s a music lover work in the theme (just don’t overkill it as kids can be notoriously prone to changing their minds!).

Bedrooms are our personal retreats. For me, a well designed bedroom needs to be effortless. I like how the masculine simplicity of this design is balanced against rich textures – the cashmere panelled walls and geometric carpet, offset dark polished woods and a platinum trimmed bed. The space isn’t grand, but with an understated colour palette and strong use of symmetry, it’s easily replicable – even if you don’t have the £199m needed to buy the Monaco Penthouse it sits within! Image credit

Light green walls and a headboard in Colefax & Fowler’s ‘Evesham’ give this bedroom designed by Caroline Harrowby a fresh, floral look. Its eclectic style is made elegant with pretty curtains and a painted dressing table from the owners’ previous home.

Keep yourself on track each day with a cool alarm or wall clock in your room. Match the colors of your clock to the colors in your bedding to instantly tie the entire room together. Or, pick a silver, white, black or gold clock to give your room a jeweled appearance. Set out a mini-fridge near your study zone, and you’ve instantly created a cozy learning corner that will encourage you to keep studying.

The main bedroom of this old fashioned Hampshire house has large sash windows that allow views out across the garden and parkland; the wallpaper is George Spencer’s Palm Stripe’ design, while the bed curtain is in ‘Bergama’ linen by Robert Kime.

If you are going to opt for minimalism in only one room in your house, that room should be the bedroom.  No distractions for relaxation and a perfect nights sleep.  Although this white bedroom scheme is definitely minimalist, I like the fact it has warmth due to the herringbone floor and interest added with the contemporary four poster.  The simple bedding looks luxurious too and I would be more than happy to take a nap between those sheets. Image credit

Lots of kids want a rainbow-bright bedroom, and why not? If your daughter loves color, but not necessarily all pink, keep the floors, the furniture and the walls (other than perhaps one accent wall) neutral, and then go wild on the bedding, small furnishings and accessories. A crazy-bright accent wall mural is another fun touch that works in a child’s space, but is too much for the master bedroom. This adorable room was found on Craft-O-Maniac.

I love this bedroom – it was one of the first I designed and the brief was to create an elegant and serene sanctuary. The soft Cornforth White walls combined with the decadent wallpaper by Tapet Café really do complement one another and create a very soothing mood. The Vogue print adds the perfect ‘pop’ of colour and the large mirror reflects a lot of light into the space. The chandelier by Verner Panton completes the look and adds decadence. Image credit

Spark your child’s imagination as they rest their weary heads with a fun ceiling hanging. Why not even create it yourselves? Simply invest in some colourful material, heavy thread and fabric paint and let your creativity run riot.

If you’re considering florals but don’t want an overly feminine scheme, here’s your inspiration: a fresh print combined with contemporary accessories in strong yellow and green hues. The base of whites and greys keeps it sophisticated too.

Look to your attic for space to grow, like in this little girl’s bedroom design. If a remodel is involved, tailor the basics of the room to suit your home’s style. For example, if you have a farmhouse, use warm, rustic wood on the walls and floor. That way, the space will blend seamlessly with the rest of the home should it be used for another purpose down the road.

Thinking about how you want to set up dorm room design is something that occurs shortly after you realize you’ll be moving away to attend college. As what’s likely your first home away from home, designing your dorm room should be a fun and memorable experience. From choosing your bedding to creating a productive study space, your dorm room design should reflect your own personality. For boys’ and girls’ dorm inspiration, we have a wide range of ideas at PBteen to share with you.

Even a small space can have an airy, open vibe when your palette is mostly white with just one cheery accent color. Notice how easy it is to mix patterns when they share the same two colors; the striped rug, small floral comforter, and larger floral sheets don’t feel busy or overwhelming even though the room is very small.

Sisters sharing a room can be a recipe for squabbling. To keep the peace, go in with a game plan. If the girls are old enough to help with decor decisions, ask for their input. That way they’ll feel like they have a vested interest in the room. Also, designate an area for each girl’s stuff so both will feel like they have their own space. Another tip: Plan for the future. When baby outgrows the crib, be prepared to shift around furniture or consider adding a bunk bed or a trundle bed.

Love Scandinavian style? The combination of crisp whites and cheery colours lends itself well to a kids’ room. Start with white-washed floors and furnishings, then add bright pops of colour with cushions and bedding. Don’t forget quirky-yet-fun accents, like this hanging bird mobile.

By opting for classic furniture and white walls as a base, this space and its contents will easily morph in to a spare bedroom with a change of bed. The vintage fabric used for the blind is from The Lacquer Chest in Kensington.

Add some sparkle to a princess-themed room with a starry wallpapered ceiling. This room’s blue ceiling, as well as small pops of powder blues, lavender, and bright coral, breaks up a mostly pink color scheme. Statement light fixtures above the bed give extra glamour that can carry into teenage years.

Soft white walls set the tone in this modern bedroom, which also features a run of bespoke cupboards. These divide the bedroom from the hallway. A simple, rustic tree stump is used as a bedside table, adding to the natural feel of the scheme. Create a similar effect with ‘Lozano’ by Swoon Editions.

Most of the time, a small bedroom means an equally small closet. A great solution to this common concern is incorporating built-in storage around the head of the bed, as in this serene space designed by Chris Ebert of Normandy Remodeling. If built-ins aren’t an option, look for bookcases that fit in the space instead.

In Steffanie Brown’s 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom, interior decorator Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay has subdivided the walls for a sock-it-to-me impact, introducing a psychedelic cloudscape (‘Clouds Sonic’ by Aimée Wilder) above the picture rail and a restrained print below (‘Tile’ by Cole & Son). ‘She wanted a funky bedroom,’ says Henri. ‘I tried to give her what she was looking for, without doing something that would later drive you bonkers.’

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed retreat perfect for entertaining.

This attic bedroom in west London designed by Hackett Holland is proof that you can make any awkward space stylish. It features London street map wallpaper and a sweet reading nook with a porthole window through which to gaze out (pictured out of shot, see it up close here).

I love this luxurious bedroom designed for a colour blind client. The careful mix of pattern and texture maximises the visual impact he gets from it, without being overwhelming for anyone else. It’s a large, bright space that could take a lot of colour without looking busy, and can easily absorb big pieces (the bed is actually a super king). The walk-in wardrobe has a to-die-for amount of storage in addition to the 3 massive wardrobes alongside the bed, which allows for everything to be put away and hidden, so that you can  enjoy the bright colours and still have a tranquil space to escape to. Deep jewel tones, such as the turquoise Porta Romana Thread lamps,  and matt metallics allow the scheme to be both rich and restful. The style is very much that of a small boutique hotel – creative and encouraging. It’s not a room you go to to unwind and declutter your mind – it’s an exciting destination in itself. Every texture is interesting,  inviting and playful. The Stark carpet is wonderfully soft under food, and the silk bed throw from Soak and Sleep has a luxurious and subtle sheen to it. Image credit

The Pink Room in Bradwell Lodge is fun, feminine and fancy. A bold Bernard Thorp fabric, ‘Brimble’, has been used on the walls and bed, and for the blind: this creates a lovely sense of continuity in the space.

Industrial style bedrooms: The key traits of the industrial style bedrooms are raw elements and unfinished textures. Exposed brickwork is a popular choice for this particular style and truly characterises the utilitarian look. You can also paint brickwork white, for a brighter effect. Aged wood fits the industrial look well, as do exposed pipes and ducts for that warehouse look. Iron bed frames are effective and metal bedside tables and copper light shades compliment and add cohesion.

More often than not, bedrooms tend to be neutral spaces. After all, who doesn’t want to create a calming environment when a good night’s rest is on the line? But when you have neutral walls and bedding, accent pieces become that much more critical for creating a balanced design.

I like interiors being minimalist, effortless and welcoming and this bedroom embodies all these things. I love the contrast of the matte black floorboards, the various hues of dark and light grey soft stonewashed linen to curl up in bed on a Sunday morning, the gorgeous atelier windows and the sheet of rusty metal casually lay against the wall and turned into a simple piece of art and a few of our favourite design books. A great combination of simple lines, textures and muted colours. Image credit

Any time picking out the shade, think about the beautifying fashion. Some sort of modest, mossy green is useful together with modern day as well as craftsman fashion which integrate a great deal of wood in the furniture. Deeply green is useful with a additional traditional decoration and may end up being blended with other loaded colorings for instance red, wine red or darkish with an tasteful look. Apple green surfaces, along with sleep as well as eye-port material inside a structure together with a touch of reddish, properly go with cheap chic furniture. If you love ultra-bright colorings, think about green or chartreuse, matched together with violet or reddish for a fashionable look.

This isn’t just any other pink canopy – it’s a layered, flower petal canopy. It’s quite a beautiful and special piece that is not overly difficult to make, so you should definitely turn up your sleeves and get to it. themodesthomestead.

If you’re after a particular style, finding a piece that fits perfectly with your ideal can be an epic struggle. In the case of this shabby chic mirror, one would have been hard-pressed to find something akin to this particular Renaissance design in the modern day. Rather than settle on a less desirable piece, this gorgeous mirror was hand-crafted from an old door, transformed into a mirror frame. Finding an old door to refurbish also grants the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind piece, and will more than likely carry a much less hefty price tag than a similar antique or antique-inspired article.

If you choose to decorate your bedroom with one hue, be sure to vary the shades to create a calming vibe. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns (florals and stripes live well together) to add visual interest.

You may need to defy convention when it comes to design ideas for small bedrooms. Specifically, get creative with the furniture layout! In this room, the bed slightly overlaps the two windows, but the placement provides ample walkways. Just be sure to move furniture several inches away from the window to make room for blinds and curtains.

This stylish nineteenth-century house on London’s Portobello Road is the work of Eleanora Cunietti, one half of Carden Cunietti design practice. The main bedroom has a rich colour scheme and a palette of teal predominates. The owner loves it. ‘There is something incredibly calming about the colour,’ she says. ‘It reminds me of water, always changing, always different.’ The bedcover is ‘Meadow’ silk by Mulberry.

This bedroom belongs to Vanessa and James Macdonald’s son, Rupert, at their family home in the rolling hills of Oxfordshire. The red gingham of the headboard and armchair compliments the patterned red and white curtains. Soft neutral colours in the carpet and on the walls allows the red to pleasantly pop rather than overwhelm the room.

Born in America, interior designer Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay started her working life in New York, cutting her visual teeth as a fashion stylist on Elle magazine, before becoming art director for some of Manhattan’s most celebrated retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s. Her stylist’s eye has remained one of her undoubted assets, giving her the confidence to compose sophisticated medleys of pattern, colour and texture. ‘In this house, we definitely went maximalist,’ she says. ‘We used layer upon layer.’ The wallpapers are ‘Clouds Sonic’ by Aimée Wilder and ‘Tile’ by Cole & Son, while the ‘Libra’ zodiac cushion is from Jonathan Adler.

Here in the main bedroom, previously the banqueting hall, the crest of the Peruzzi family, bankers to Henry III and subsequently to Henry VIII, cover the walls. The Torre pre-dates Chaucer, Brunelleschi’s Duomo and Michelangelo’s David.

Celebrated interior decorator Nicky Haslam opens the doors to his own west-London apartment, which is an elegantly playful showcase for his masterful use of scale and dramatic details, and his signature mix of the fake and the fabulous. Painted a rich dark brown, the canopy in the bedroom was inspired by a Cecil Beaton drawing. Nicky brought the bed with him from his former flat and found the table lamps in a second-hand shop.

This beautiful soft industrial bedroom featured on the cover of the launch issue of Warehouse Home – and it’s been proving very popular! The original features of a warehouse conversion, such as exposed brickwork, can often feel ‘hard’ and ‘masculine’. Old and new steel furniture is especially striking in such spaces but can also feel cold. When styling the Warehouse Home bedroom (above), we wanted to prove that industrial chic can have a soft side. A bespoke galvanised steel pipe bed, designed exclusively for Warehouse Home by Inspirit Deco, was the focal point of our warehouse bedroom. And beside it, a vintage industrial bedside cabinet. We then used a ‘masculine and feminine’ palette of greys and blush pinks and a variety of textured fabrics (linen, tweed, velvet), to bring warmth to our bedroom and soften the industrial look. vintage accessories complemented the warehouse conversion’s heritage features, while flowers and decorative vintage glassware further enhanced the “femininity” of the space. Image credit

A pop-up play tent or tee-pee is an adorable – not to mention fun – addition to a kids’ room. Take this idea from kids’ wallpaper and fabric specialists Hibou Home and make your own with fabric and string.

A modern bedside table and monochromatic rug designed by Studio Ashby feature in the guest bedroom in a flat that has been transformed from a stark new-build to a characterful home. The pattern on the padded headboard is reflected in the artwork above the bed.

The attic of Kate Earl’s charming 1920s chalet in the French Alps is the children’s domain, and every bit as thought through and sophisticated as the rest of the house, yet fun. Up there is this tiny second bedroom, with one bed ingeniously built in under another, in an L-shape configuration under painted-pine ceilings.

Give a country cottage bedroom a wash of white paint and their odd angles characterful corners come in to their own. A Jacob’s ladder accentuates the double-height proportions of a spare room at Slackwood Farm in Lancashire.

After visiting her friend Kathryn Ireland in France’s Tarn region, Anne Halsey bought a French farmhouse retreat there and enlisted the help of the decorator to create a relaxed space perfect for entertaining. This double guest room mixes different colours while sticking to the same gingham pattern (see the lamp shade, blanket and padded headboard), making for a colourful, chic and coordinated space.

Try incorporating bright florals into a girl’s bedroom scheme. Here, a combination of mismatching pinks and reds featuring in wallpaper, curtains and soft furnishings create a cohesive but informal look.

The key, in most cases, is to banish childish decor and not impose your own style ideas on your teens’ room – it’s their retreat after all, and their idea of cool decorating most likely differs from yours. If you’re concerned about their changeable tastes and desire to keep up with trends, keep the basic wall colour neutral and use cool bedroom accessories and fresh bed linen to update the space and give it personality. The other teen bedroom essential is storage – even if every parent knows how difficult it can be to get your child to clean and tidy up after themselves, neat storage systems, from shelving to wardrobes, drawers to under-bed or end-of-bed storage benches means there’s no excuse for clutter. Thanks, Allyson. They do tend to migrate to the larger room to play. Also because my older daughter is more neat. She would prefer the ‘mess’ of the play be in her sisters room. At first she thought that also meant her sister would have to clean everything up. We had to work on that issue. I remember some friends growing up had done the same thing. The girls had the master bedroom. I always thought that was a combination of fantastic and totally strange! Maybe you guys could find a two story home with a master on each floor. Then you still get a master and so will the girls!

These are some some incredibly creative ideas! I love how these designs make the most of small spaces. Another option is to purchase furniture with multiple purposes. There’s no denying that many little girls love all things pink, but that doesn’t mean a girl’s room has to look like a bubblegum factory. The bedroom from Steele Street Studios shown here demonstrates how well neutrals can work in a girl’s bedroom. The wonderful lighting fixture, fun pennant banner, and polka dot bedding add just enough whimsy to the space, yet the overall look is rather sophisticated.

Kids are a great joy of family life, but one thing that can be difficult is decorating a bedroom of someone that grows so quickly before your eyes! I’m really big on gender neutral design and looking at this room, you wouldn’t be able to tell whether or not it belonged to a girl or a boy. It’s so bright and natural with bits of contemporary and Scandinavian design. Little elements like the blackboard, bean bags and lights are used to give the room a warm feeling even though the design is really simple. I love where the bed is placed in the corner by a large window too.  My top tip for decorating kids bedrooms is to maximise storage and to keep things simple, kids change their mind and get bored of a lot of things very quickly, we’ve all been there! @Fay, that is your opinion, of course. I, however, was admiring the variety in the designs, happy that they weren’t all excessively girly, because, of course, that WOULD be stereotypical. There are girls that do like that kind of thing, however, and I thought this list was very good in portraying different styles for different people. You did find TWO that you liked, didn’t you? Each and every one wasn’t meant to suit each and every girl.

Wall colors for Ems room – I’m thinking of aqua walls, black furniture and a black/white bed spread. Oh, and my bed is white, and the closet doors and bedroom door will be white. I’m thinking it will work, after seeing this room.

Your daughter’s nightly homework assignments will grow right along with her. Every school-age child needs a desk for study time. The simple desk fronted by a large bulletin board shown here is the perfect spot to study. But what really makes this room special is the adorable wall décor – and it’s a snap to duplicate. Just fill in the space over the headboard with a colorful and wonderfully patterned wallpaper. It’s an easy DIY, and you’ll probably only need one roll of paper.

Your bedroom shouldn’t just be the place where you sleep. Ideally, the space should feel like somewhere you want to spend your free time. One easy way to achieve that is by adding a seating area that you can use when you don’t feel like lounging in bed.

If your ultimate goal is “cozy,” then work different textures into the décor. Stick with classic patterns (tartan plaid, checks) and introduce different colors with the bed linens, walls, and accessories.

This child’s room showcases youthful sophistication for growing girls. Offset from the bedroom, the lavender playroom provides plenty of space for playing games and entertaining friends. The lime linen settee is the perfect place to read a book while enjoying the sweeping outdoor views. By creating a clear separation between the bedroom and playroom, both rooms have a clear and defined purpose. Design by Jennifer Duneier

To create a (literal) statement piece, larger than life letters like these brilliant burnished brass creations immediately draw the eye. Paired with natural elements like a faux bird’s nest and flower wreath, the juxtaposition of man-made metallics and earthy organics produces an interesting dynamic that’s extremely pleasing to look at. Hung over a dresser, the curious clash of opposing aspects makes for a charming and attractive focal point. Top the dresser with more metallics and natural pieces, like this tree trunk stand and simple silver alarm clock, to further perpetuate the aesthetic.

Tip: If your child wants a specific theme, aim for elements that can be interpreted multiple ways. Here, the parents chose to leave the monkeys, elephants, and clowns at the real circus and instead incorporated a tent theme that can be worked into other decor as the years go on.
