Though it’s for two little girls, this room has plenty of grown-up sophistication. Crown molding, the fireplace mantel, and carved-wood bed frames are all highly traditional, but they are all finished in soft white rather than a dark stain. To create your own elegant room, stick with a palette of two colors, such as the sage and rose in this room.

Calling all small space dwellers! Big city apartments, vintage home layouts, and modern space downsizing all call for design that expands the possibilities of small. If you need a bedroom makeover but don’t think you have enough bedroom to work with, you’re in the right place. We’ve got some lovely small bedroom ideas to prove small spaces can be stylish.

I was drawn to this space initially because of the use of pattern and colour in the cushions.  The navy blue and mustard hues are an intriguing but very complementary pairing; with the pattern visually lifting the entire space.  The warmth of the earthy tone-on-tone colour palette has soothing atmospheric qualities: perfect for a bedroom.  But the showstopper is the seamless incorporation of industrial inspired design via the vintage wall lighting.  An excellent illustration of how urban styling can be blended into a space without appearing too harsh or cold. If you have young daughters sharing a bedroom, give each a say in how that room is decorated, but be prepared to step in as the final word. Some children like to personalize their section of the room; others like to match. Just be sure that each girl has an area to store her favorite possessions, and there is enough desk space for both to do homework at the same time. This adorable space from Finnian’s Moon Interiors uses a peaceful palette of green, blue, and soft gray.

There are many different steps to decorating a kids room http://business.am-news.com/am-news/news/read/35871325 begin with deciding on a theme and end with choosing what color you wish to adorn the walls with. Obviously you have multiple choices for decorating the walls of your childs bedroom, however the two most popular options are wallpaper and paint. While wallpaper comes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures, it tends to be a much more tedious process with more permanent results. Removing it takes a lot of time and effort, and can also damage your walls. Paint, on the other hand, does not take a lot of time to apply and can easily become a do it yourself project. Plus, as cartoon characters and games become more popular, companies are creating paint colors for girls room that are based off of popular kids shows such as Dora the Explorer and toy brands like Fischer Price. Paint a bright pink and purple girls room that has wall decals of Swiper and Boots or choose a more subtle green that is found in the popular baby brand Luv U Zoo.

When it comes to children’s decor, my eye is always drawn to white, airy rooms with playful details to add warmth and colour. Jenson’s gender neutral nursery is a perfect example of this, with his sweet ladybug bedding and special wooden toys out on display. There’s space to let him play unrestricted, with stylish storage boxes to tidy away any clutter afterwards. It’s also a room that can easily grow with him for years to come. Whilst monochrome is the trend of the moment, it can be surprisingly tricky to get right. The key is to find a balance and you can do this by adding in more soft tones and textures such as wooden accents, a fun wallpaper or contrasting prints. Not only does it make the space more interesting, but it doesn’t restrict you to one overly coordinated look. Have fun with styling and sourcing your key pieces and it will shine through in your child’s room! Image Credit: Holly Nicholls from Jenson & Beau

Next, think about what mood you want to evoke. Do you have trouble sleeping? Maybe opt for a calming blue. Do you want to set the mood for romance with your partner? Fuller, darker colours may be a better match then. Consider if you want to have a TV in your bedroom. If yes, do you want it on display or hidden? Or maybe you want to have a little office within your bedroom? You may be better off styling with neutral colours, but putting emphasis on the right inspiring artwork. In that case, you may also need to think of smart storage solutions so you can keep your workspace tidy and not let it interfere with your sleep. Have a browse through our images to get a feel for what appeals to you, and don’t forget to pay attention to lighting as well.

If space is at a premium in your little one’s room, try pushing the bed against a wall. With the bed out of the way, she’ll have plenty of play space on the floor—which will also prevent toys from cluttering up your living spaces. The first step in decorating any kind of bedroom, whether it is the bedroom, your child’s bedroom or an extra guest area is to check out the layout of the area. Ideally, a bedroom should be a clean, minimal space for you to unwind in, but I also love how creativity has crept into this Scandi interior. Full of personality, this scrapbook/shelving arrangement complements the DIY aesthetic of the room and accompanies the hanging bulb light fixture perfectly. Framed pictures are non-existent but instead, a quick fix of inspirational imagery taped to the wall is the ultimate effortless decorative feature. I like how black accents can be detected from the tape, light and bedside table; bringing all of the decorations together, but still harnessing that spontaneous element. Image credit

‘The approach we took to the furniture was rather like our approach to the house as a whole,’ says Jonathan Tuckey, who imaginatively modernised this seventeenth-century chalet in the Swiss Alps. ‘We really liked a lot of the things that were in the house already and decided to hang on to them. But then there were other elements that we designed specially, such as the beds which are now really close to the ground and more informal.’

While blue is often a go-to color for boys’ bedrooms, that doesn’t mean it’s no-girls-allowed. Take on this hue for a cool girl room idea. Whether you choose to go vibrant, pastel, or dark, use organic or floral prints, billowy window treatments, and layers of bedding to soften the look.

Most bedrooms function as living and playing spaces, which means decorating needs to work double-duty. Choose a rich color, like this terra-cotta, and introduce accents in natural tones to keep the room feeling warm and comfortable.

Combining classical proportions and traditional furnishings with the informal elements of family life, this house in Cornwall has proved the perfect acquisition for its owners. Before moving in, they asked the interior designer, architectural historian and natural paint expert Edward Bulmer for his help. ‘Edward has a marvellous eye,’ says the owner. He has a great feel for colour and he is fantastic at arranging furniture and pictures.’ For his part, Edward says that these are delightful clients, and are unusually united on aesthetic decisions. Despite their very different backgrounds, they share a taste for the modest grandeur of English country-house style, for antique rugs, traditional chintz and books. The wall is painted in ‘Ochre’ from Edward Bulmer Natural Paints.

The owner loves the spare aesthetic of the bamboo. ‘It is not overwhelming, just a very simple and pure design, not trying to impress, nestled in the leaves, just hanging on the cliff.’ The house was designed by Veere Grenney.

This year we decided to give our bedroom a mini makeover. Sometimes a theme wall can do the trick as is the case here where Farrow & Ball’s Dix Blue was used as the background. The room feels light and airy and I won’t deny it, feminine too. The tall headboard of the upholstered bed and the brass accessories give it a luxurious look that is always a pleasure to come back to.

A large, internal glazed window provides views from the main bedroom into the sitting room and vice versa, while a concealed Venetian blind provides privacy. Listen. I’m seventeen and frankly I don’t know anyone my age who’d actually like one of these rooms (no offense). They all just seem so busy and cluttered. I admit, the loft is totally awesome and having a bathroom in my room would be a dream come true, but next time, try designing something more simplier. That way the teen can decorate it with things THEY like. Sorry for the harsh criticism. ?

White on white is the perfect space for the perfect night’s sleep. Crisp white bed linen, with the softest of pillows and the lightest of duvets. Cosy throws to keep those toes warm in the colder months. Pure and simple paired back detailing to showcase the natural beauty of the walls and floor that frame the space you are in. Uncluttered and calm, a sanctuary from the hectic world outside. Image credit

I love the soft, muted palette of this master retreat. Cool greys and ivory are well-suited for the bedroom – a space that should feel calm and restful. The mix of textural fabrics and nubby wool rug create a warm, layered space that still feels contemporary and tailored. Image credit

This bedroom would be stunning solely with the striking dark grey wall panel and monochrome bedding, but the addition of the rich ochre throw, writing desk, vintage chair and chic accessories adds an extra element that takes this stylish scheme to a whole new level.

The small white bedroom on the second floor of this Victorian terrace house had been painted a rather gloomy blue. To make the most of the light, newlyweds Sophie and Dan opted to repaint the room with Dulux’s ‘Pure Brilliant White’ while lemon yellow accents bring further warmth to the room. The divan bed is furnished with a buttoned ‘Bekkestua’ headboard from Ikea and the cane mirror hung over the bed was bought on a trip to Saffron Walden.

A warm chocolate-brown focal wall adds an adult edge in this girl’s bedroom. To make the rich hue more playful and fitting for a young girl, HGTV fan wenbenoit integrated hot pink into the design scheme with sheer window treatments, storage ottomans and a stylish floral lamp. She kept the linens ultra-neutral to offset the bold color combination.

For me, the bedroom is a space that needs to be calming, simple and light. I hate clutter around me when I want to sleep so the minimalism of this room appeals to me. I also want my bedroom to be as bright as possible in the morning to motivate me at the start of the day, so the white walls, bedlinen and the painted floor are the perfect combination as they allow the light to bounce around the room. I love the natural touches of the bulbs, the raw wood of the bedside table, the baskets by the fireplace and the beautiful crocheted blanket, which add touches of character to the room. This room is the perfect blank canvas for rest and relaxation. Image credit

He has a great feel for colour and he is fantastic at arranging furniture and pictures.’ For his part, Edward says that these are delightful clients, and are unusually united on aesthetic decisions. Definitely prefer the classic looking bedrooms to modern. Although the modern bedrooms look artistic and clean, they look too cold for my taste. I like soft, warm colors rather than bold and bright ones for bedrooms. I think it’s because brighter colors make me feel more awake, but when I am in a bedroom I want to relaxed and be calm. When I was a little girl I had a canopy bed — the hangings always made me feel like I was a princess in a fairytale or something. Fast forward 30 years later, and I still want to feel that way…my bedroom is decorated with Victorian accent pieces from LookInTheAttic. They restore heirloom pieces and do custom finishing. I am quite happy with my bedroom, but my daughter is the complete opposite from me — she wants to have bright pink polka dots all over her room. What do you say people? Should I give in?

Once the basics are in place, decorating is where the fun begins. Choose a feature to be the focus of your room. kids girl room can be a beautifully upholstered headboard, a fancy mirror, a few indoor plants, or simple and clean white bedding combined with a fluffy rug.

If you’ve ever stepped foot into the typical teenage girl’s bedroom, you know that the floor generally becomes a wardrobe wasteland of apocalyptic proportions. Functional organization methods like closet organizers can help, but to truly encourage keeping tidy, try making storage a focal point. Shelves like these turn picking up shoes into a design element, making cleaning up that much more rewarding. This is exceptionally beneficial in a smaller room where every inch of storage space counts, as a bare wall doesn’t provide much utility, and open shelving makes the area feel a bit larger than a looming wardrobe would.

My girls are very close, like best friends. I worried about them being in their own rooms that it would break some of that bond. I worried about lots of aspects of them having their own room. I thought about it a ton. Maybe too much. It boiled down to the fact that they were staying up late EVERY. NIGHT. TALKING. So cute and so sweet that they had all that sister time and chatting. The issue is that they were staying up late every night and they were ALWAYS cranky and our house was suffering.

Think Pink! as the old song from the Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire film Funny Face goes. Pair a pink themed girls’ room with sturdy woods and sheer fabrics for a kid-friendly look that’s still stylish.

Every girl, regardless of her age, loves grooming herself. Girls love taking care of themselves in all aspects; appearance, health, and even they take care of their own stuff, keeping them neat and always clean. In order for a girl to do all of those things, she needs her very own little world where she can be herself, detaching herself from everyday’s hectic responsibilities, and finding a place where she can work on beautifying herself. Girls usually find this kind of privacy in their own rooms, and since a lot of girls are a bit picky and neat when it comes to their stuff, they probably need a room that pretty much match their personalities. If you are one of those girls, we brought to you a list of decoration ideas that you might like using in your bedroom. Check them out.

As they begin exploring their independence, having a room where they can hang out, study and lounge with friends is almost more important to them than sleep. And the social aspect of a room is big. A survey of global teenagers by smartgirl.org found that the #1 thing a teen would add to their room is a poster of themselves with their friends. Work with your teen to creatively address the following areas in their room:

Every princess bedroom needs a touch of glitter, and since lights are a lot like glitter, it makes all good sense to make switches shine bright. These may not be easy to come by, but the good news is you can make them yourself. faithfullyfree.

White on white is the perfect space for the perfect night’s sleep. Crisp white bed linen, with the softest of pillows and the lightest of duvets. Both rooms look great. As the younger of two, I don’t think I had first choice ever. When I was still living with my parents after college, they added on to the house and again my brother got first choice but because he drug his feet, I got the space by default. I was all moved in in a day. lol I’m sure your girls will love their spaces and truly make it their own.

If floor space is limited but you have higher ceilings, consider adding a loft or platform for your sleeping area with storage or seating underneath. This isn’t an option for everyone, but for those who don’t mind literally climbing into bed, this layout can completely transform a space.

Every princess needs a fairy on her side, even if it is the tooth fairy. This little pink door, which hides a beautiful sky with clouds, adds a fun, decorative element to the room while also letting some magic in. source.

Every girl dreams of being a princess, at least at some point of their lives. But while princesses are real, fairytales aren’t and little girls can’t really go live “in a land far, far away”. Or can they?

To give your master bedroom a lasting, stately design, consider investing in a built-in closet-organization system. These can be customized to your space and needs. If you prefer a less-permanent solution, open shelving can give the space a modern feel. A foot trunk also works if your taste veers toward the traditional.

We tried having one fall asleep in our room, then moving them when we went to bed. It went like that for a long time. I finally just decided it was dumb to keep having them sleep in our room and that they needed their own rooms. It was a good choice. My girls are still close and we now have kids who get sleep and can function during the day. Yay!

There are few places where a teen can express themselves unabashedly. The bedroom is the top choice. The beauty of being a teenager is that the world is their oyster. Their favorite things are diverse and sometimes discordant, but with some planning, all ideas can tie together beautifully.

I love the luminousity of this bedroom. Huge windows and a total white background -even the ceiling beams have been painted in white- lights up all the space. Even if I love total white interiors, I think that some spots of colour can make a bedroom cosier. Here, I love the choice of dusty pink: it’s a trendy colour hue for this year and it goes well with most of colours. Also, pink is known as one of the most relaxing colours, so I think it’s perfect for a bedroom. (Grasshopper floor lamp and About a Lounge by Hay chair are always a great choice for a reading corner, love them in pink) One original architectural feature of this room, the mezzanine with bed on top: I’ve always been fascinated by low beds, but I’m not used to sleep close to the floor…so this is a good compromise!  Just one thing I would add in this beautiful room: some linen curtains on that windows, here in Italy it’s not possible to think about a bedroom without curtains, you could just die of heat here in a mid summer morning! Image credit

‘I got it off Ebay for £200’ says designer Diana Sieff of the four-poster bed in the bedroom of her Oxfordshire home. ‘I like using big furniture in small spaces, because it gives the illusion that the room is bigger. Although I did have to take the finials off the bed posts, as they hit the ceiling.’ One of Diana’s trademarks is to forego curtains in favour of shutters. ‘I had them made,’ she explains, ‘which I prefer because they are minimal and less light-excluding.’ The walls are covered in – ‘Adams Eden’ by Lewis & Wood.

The late Lady Hindlip, the designer owner of this home, was described as a ‘serial mover’. This Fifties property – her nineteenth home – was enthusiastically created into the perfect London pied-à-terre with a quintessentially English feel. The rug in the main bedroom of this is from Talisman. Botanical prints hang on the wall, which is covered with a striped wallpaper by Colefax and Fowler.

I love the way this black and gold room turned out. The best thing about this room was it was very affordable to decorate, as most of the decorations are from Gordmans, Hobby Lobby and the At Home Store and the bedding is from Target.

In the main bedroom of product designer Anthony Joseph – one half of kitchenware company Joseph & Joseph – mustard textiles were chosen to complement the walls painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Mole’s Breath’

For the teen that’s great at keeping her space clean, an all-white bedroom is a luxurious and ultra-cozy option. To pull off this look, add interest with metallic accessories and a mix of fabric textures.

Bedrooms are our personal retreats. For me, a well designed bedroom needs to be effortless. I like how the masculine simplicity of this design is balanced against rich textures – the cashmere panelled walls and geometric carpet, offset dark polished woods and a platinum trimmed bed. The space isn’t grand, but with an understated colour palette and strong use of symmetry, it’s easily replicable – even if you don’t have the £199m needed to buy the Monaco Penthouse it sits within! Image credit

Decorating a little girl’s room has never been more fun! With patterned bedspreads and brightly colored walls, here are our tips for creating the perfect room fit for the little princess in your home.

Classic-boat enthusiast Katie Fontana’s love of pure craftsmanship and aesthetic simplicity resulted in the bespoke kitchen design company Plain English as well a charming houseboat and boathouse where she lives when she is in London. The ex-Customs and Excise cutter called Stork is moored in St Katharine Docks, E1. ‘In 2008, shortly after our father died, my sister and I were in Maldon, Essex, where he lived, Katie explains. We spotted Stork for sale and thought she looked cute. When I noticed she was built in 1926, the year my father was born, it felt like a sign, so I bought her as a little place to stay when I was in London. The interior had been Ikea-ed, and wasn’t really to my taste, but I knew if I covered it all in Farrow & Ball paint it would be fine. One day, I’d like to give her a full authentic refit. For now, she’s a bit of fun.’

This modern children’s room has a self-contained, two-level unit within to make the large, open-plan space feel comfortable. This feeling is further enhanced with pops of colour and pattern. The blue tiger rugs are by Moustache from en.smallable.com.

Proof that one can still create a functional, stylish bedroom in a small area. A bunk bed with a built-in desk frees up space for a sofa, and built-in storage, hidden hanging rails and wall pegs ensure the room is kept clutter-free.

I love how Martyn Lawrence Bullard combines vibrant colours with serenity and calm in this bedroom; a perfect setting for colour lovers, who want to wind down in a relaxed setting after a hard day’s work. The different textures, such as the fur throw and carpet provide a great contrast to the mirrored bedside tables, which makes the room dynamic and interesting. I also love the ethnic element (Ikat cushions) combined with the ‘Modern Glamour’ style, which gives the room a new dimension. And how great is the coffee table at the end of the bed? I don’t like bedside tables, that are full of books and magazines, so this provides a great stage option that prevents cluttering the room and at the same time looks great! Image credit

FURNITURE Hand-lacquered hardwood side tables, ‘Hudson’ (marine blue), by Rita Konig, 63 x 71 x 56cm, £1,975 each, from The Lacquer Company. Beech-framed bespoke canopy bed, 210 x 151 x 200cm, in ‘Paisley Parrott’ (jewel), cotton, and ‘Coral’ (pink), cotton, from £25,000 as shown, from Soane. Oak and paper-cord bench, ’63A’, by J L Møllers, 46 x 120 x 40cm, £632, from Skandium.

Blending the old with the new, Peggy and Hereschel Post – with the help of Tom Bartlett of Waldo Works – have created an astonishingly interesting space. In the bedroom round swirls echo those of the Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell paintings on the walls, but there is a spicy twist – a gigantic circular sculpture, a burst of metal spillikins by Lizzie Farey, hangs behind a modern four-poster bed.

I love the calming and clean atmosphere this space has, which I think is really important for a child’s room. As a Mid Century design geek I love the simple wooden mobile hanging above the cot, the print of the wolf cub matches the earthy tones of the wood and cushion perfectly. I also love the idea of having photography of baby animals in a kid’s room, its just the right amount of cuteness whilst still feeling a little grown up. I’m a big fan of Middle eastern textiles and I really like the slight juxtaposition of the candy coloured persian rug and monochrome block printed throw. I chose this image as it has a great balance of mature style with cute elements and I think a room like this could be easily adapted as the child grows up. Image Credit

I would describe this bedroom as ‘cosy contemporary’ and it’s the sort of space I could relax in at the end of a busy day.  It is fairly minimalist, but not as stark as a white or grey bedroom, with an on trend geo pattern and a soft colour palette, with some warmth from the brass lamp and wooden side table.  I also love the white painted floor boards and think it is a look that could be quite easy to re-create. Image credit

Not a design scheme for the faint hearted but one that we rather love. The furniture may have a Louis XV feel but the introduction of hot pink and lime green accessories and the all-over lattice effect wallpaper keep it ultra contemporary.

Don’t be afraid of the dark! Dark colours have become cool in interiors and bedrooms are amazing spaces to use them. This dark blue creates a really dramatic space and draws your eye to the crisp white linen and the light of the window. Image credit
