Add a wallpaper to create a fun accent wall for an easy bedroom update. Choose one wall to be the focal point for your room and add wallpaper to create your accent wall. For the bedroom below we selected the wall behind the bed. This highlights the bed and gives it a more majestic appearance. Then, add some fun accessories in similar colors to your wallpaper to tie the look together.

Before buying furniture for your bedroom, you need to decide some factors like wall colour, or bedroom wallpaper, and the type of flooring that you want. Try to choose a colour that will help you create a calm atmosphere and also compliment well with your bedroom furniture. The lighting needs to be chosen wisely as well because a very bright bedroom is not soothing enough, whereas a room with insufficient lighting will hinder activities such as bedtime reading. Accessories add the perfect finishing touch to bedroom designs. For example, soft furnishings add comfort, style and colour whereas beautiful cashmere throws are luxurious and warm. Scented candles add a nice touch and woven baskets provide storage and work well with natural, rustic and eclectic styles. You can also use wallpaper to work with the size and shape of your room, for example, striped wallpaper can make walls look taller, or rooms appear wider, which is particularly good for small rooms.

Similar to a girl’s bedroom it is often best to try to develop a bedroom that he will take pleasure in for several years rather than a bedroom where he is most likely to lose interest after just a few months. While many youngsters often have preferred characters, they will likely grow out of those passions within a year at one of the most. One means to endanger on this subject is to create a bedroom that can easily expand with your child then concentrate their character passions in items that could be conveniently changed without way too much expenditure such as with window therapies, bedding and also accent items.

Thanks, Allyson. They do tend to migrate to the larger room to play. Also because my older daughter is more neat. She would prefer the ‘mess’ of the play be in her sisters room. At first she thought that also meant her sister would have to clean everything up. We had to work on that issue. I remember some friends growing up had done the same thing. The girls had the master bedroom. I always thought that was a combination of fantastic and totally strange! Maybe you guys could find a two story home with a master on each floor. Then you still get a master and so will the girls black bedroom furniture a kid’s bedroom to a tween’s bedroom could seem daunting — so whether you want to completely redo your daughter’s bedroom or you’re just looking to tweak an already awesome room to accommodate her (constantly) changing interests and amazing personality, we’ve got some inspiration for you.

Enjoyed looking at the photos. Very inspiring. I like how you featured different colors – not just pink. I designed a fun tween retreat for the Spring Show in Charlotte that was packed with some fun ideas…(pardon me while i toot my own horn:-))

These fashionable princesses are experimenting with some floral patterns in this online dress up and design game for girls. You can help them while they create a few cute outfits that are really flowery and choose some new hairstyles, too.

Sisters sharing a room can be a recipe for squabbling. To keep the peace, go in with a game plan. If the girls are old enough to help with decor decisions, ask for their input. That way they’ll feel like they have a vested interest in the room. Also, designate an area for each girl’s stuff so both will feel like they have their own space. Another tip: Plan for the future. When baby outgrows the crib, be prepared to shift around furniture or consider adding a bunk bed or a trundle bed.

Teenage girls’ room decorating ideas generally differ from those of boys. When decorating a teen girl’s bedroom, consider making it fit for a princess; after all, her room is her castle. Here are 25 ideas for teenage girls’ rooms.

Now onto Pumpkin’s room. As is glaringly obvious, we patched the holes in the walls and need to paint. This wall used to have my Grandma’s desk and at one time my treadmill. Now it has Pumpkin’s dresser and bed.

THANKS for all our sharp photos of moving your 2 girls from 1 shared bedroom to 2… meaning each has her OWN BEDROOM! Like you mentioned, painting walls, decorating & new bedding for both bedrooms later. I like the look of the white IKEA dresser, so clean & simple/modern. I’m all about maximizing the use of space! Maybe, this is of interest, I recently hired Furnishr to design my living room. I know, I could have designed my room by myself, but I actually liked the designs on their site. Pretty great service. So glad you liked seeing all the pics of their rooms. We do something similar. My girls rotate which day is ‘their day.’ On their day, they get to pick where they sit in the car and a few other things. If we have a tie on something, they get to break the tie. It works great so their is no favorite and no arguing. They know their day will come…tomorrow!

Their rooms are still a huge work in progress. In fact, we did our big trip to IKEA, moved their rooms and then haven’t done anything since. As you will see in the pictures, there is still quite a bit of work to do.

Your bedroom shouldn’t just be the place where you sleep. Ideally, the space should feel like somewhere you want to spend your free time. One easy way to achieve that is by adding a seating area that you can use when you don’t feel like lounging in bed.

I’m the oldest girl and got the smallest room. However, it was the most private and I could easily come and go without disturbing anyone, even my light sleeping mother. I was also the only kid ever remotely responsible enough to have that room. I did cross country in fall, speech and debate in winter, and soccer in spring, plus theatre when possible. I was out early in the mornings (most, I went running at 5 am) and had nights getting home at 11:30 or later. Granted, my room was navy and black. Yes, it was a dark pit.

Thanks! Yes, they have worked. They both stayed on no problem as well as could be moved if needed. It was really nice. I’ve since sold the Trofasts as my girls have moved toward older girls rooms. 🙁 Hope you find something that will work for you. 🙂

Make the most of your small bedroom by using furniture to provide the storage that many undersized rooms lack. Case in point: this lovely, shabby chic bedroom substitutes a small dresser for a traditional nightstand, and makes the most of a recessed nook with a china cabinet to hold linens, sweaters, and other bulky items. That’s smart and beautiful.

For a simple window treatment for a child?s room, opt for a patterned Roman blind, choosing a blackout lining if you need to cut the light. Always fit a safety device to secure blind cords out of the way of children.

And like Kelllyyy(= said, the balcony, full glass windows, and the giant skylight isn’t somthing the average family has. And avarage family girls are the ones who will be using this website, trying to find ideas. These rooms are more like somthing we dream about. Not actually have in reality.

Small bedrooms are often short on storage, so take advantage of every inch of wasted space. Antique dough bowls, large baskets, plastic bins or rolling drawers create easy-to-use extra storage under your bed. Helpful Hint: Save even more space by filling your containers with items sealed in vacuum space bags. Photo courtesy by Janice Donlan.

Try incorporating bright florals into a girl’s bedroom scheme. Here, a combination of mismatching pinks and reds featuring in wallpaper, curtains and soft furnishings create a cohesive but informal look.

Building your little girl a Princess Bedroom makes them feel loved and special, and it helps bring magic into their lives. And while fairytale princesses can make use of all of the realm’s gold to put together their dream bedrooms, you don’t need a huge budget to make pink fantasies come to life.

No teenage girl’s bedroom is complete without a vanity. This design is elegant and gorgeous while still maintaining a modern and sophisticated air. The intricately wrought Victorian-style mirror sets the basis for the Parisian flair further expounded upon with the Eiffel Tower sculpture and artwork, but still pairs well with the sleek lines of the minimalist vanity and drawers. A stylish floating bookshelf adds further storage area without overpowering the space and provides an ideal spot to place delicate decor items to further the feminine appeal, like flower accents.

A peppy palette of pinks and yellow-base greens is playful, but it also transitions from a toddler room idea to teen decor. The mix of patterns knows no age barrier and provides plenty of other color options for makeovers later on. For example, the soft sage or fuchsia in the bedding could easily translate into a wall color, and the room would still sport a cohesive design.

The first thing to tackle is the furniture layout. If you have a baby, chances are you’ll be in and out of the room at night to tend to the baby. If possible, place their beds in opposite corners or walls with the crib being most accessible wallpaper accent wall in bedroom the door. Obviously structural elements such as windows and heaters can dictate otherwise but your design objective is to give each child the most comfortable night’s sleep without one waking the other.

Use as a feature wall – Black has long been a favoured shade in teenage bedrooms, but these days it’s cropping up just on feature walls, rather than covering floor to ceiling. In a narrow space like this room, it adds depth and draws the eye towards the furniture, rather than the window, which helps the room to feel less corridor-like.

For example, you could want to select a solid wood futon framework with a publication rack on the sides. This type of futon framework in fact does not actually look any type of various from any other sitting setup. When it is folded up out; nonetheless, it supplies comfy sleeping lodgings.

I absolutely love this bedroom and it has actually inspired my own bedroom makeover. The bold use of indigo is classy and sophisticated and creates a sleep-inducing atmosphere. Blue is a very calming and soothing colour to use in the bedroom and can aid restful sleep. The use of chunky knits, Damask prints and patterned cushions adds to the cosy feel of this room. Image credit

I’m 13 and I like to say that these layouts, ideas for bedrooms are great. Considering the fact that i have a big bedroom. I do agree with you Olivia 12 is the best, I love that they are not afraid of putting a little spot up there to chill or even to just sit there and enjoy time. It may be hard to believe that I have a room that big but it is very true.

all these rooms are SUPER cool. Awesome creativity! But next time, it’d be great if maybe you guys could design a room thats, well, more affordable looking/ realistic. I mean, c’mon, we’re teenagers who dont really have THAT much extra cash on hand to use on hand haha. And maybe ‘simpler’ room sizes. The loft one is super cool, but its not like everyone has a loft in their room. . . . awesome ideas though!

i’m 13 and really dont like any of them some are really childish because teens want there bedrooms to look older by the way i’m not being rude its just what i think and the rest are just horrid yuck ew

Decorating an extra room or guest room can be somewhat of a challenge, especially if the room should serve dual purposes; as is typically the situation. In lots of scenarios, a guest space additionally works as a home office. Also if you should likewise use your guest area for one more purpose it is very important to bear in mind that you could still create a guest room that is comfortable as well as enjoyable for your visitors.

Teens love spending time in their rooms because they feel safe and comfortable. Naturally drawn to feel-good fabrics and textures, be sure to add some touchy-feely elements in a room. Some ideas include:

While homework is never deemed fun, fashion-loving teens might like this high-contrast bedroom, with its chic workspace. A slender console functions as a workspace for design or computer work, as well as a surface to display special trinkets. Floating shelves are painted the same colour as the walls, so they seem to recede and create a spacious feel, which works perfectly with the bold graphic-print rug and shots of hot pink.

A favorite poem becomes art in this little girl’s room. And you don’t have to be an artist to create your own word art. Look for stencils and wall decals at crafts stores and online. Make sure the color of the lettering contrasts with the wall color to ensure your message will read loud and clear.

The big debate was over who was getting what room. That was such a hard decision. I know lots of people just give the oldest child what they want. Being a youngest child, I don’t like that philosophy. I don’t know why being born first means you should get everything you want and being born later means you shouldn’t even be asked what you want.

Multipurposing will help a tween get much more use out of her room. To create a tween-height gathering area, consider using a coffee table in the center of the bedroom. Once guests come over, the low stature of the coffee table makes it the perfect spot to pull up a pillow and snack while playing games or reading books.

I’m a 14 year old girl, and I am re-doing my small bedroom. None of these (with the exception of the first one) are realistic or what I’m looking for. I hate the unoriginality of the modern rooms and the pompous air in the others.

The key, in most cases, is to banish childish decor and not impose your own style ideas on your teens’ room – it’s their retreat after all, and their idea of cool decorating most likely differs from yours. If you’re concerned about their changeable tastes and desire to keep up with trends, keep the basic wall colour neutral and use cool bedroom accessories and fresh bed linen to update the space and give it personality. The other teen bedroom essential is storage – even if every parent knows how difficult it can be to get your child to clean and tidy up after themselves, neat storage systems, from shelving to wardrobes, drawers to under-bed or end-of-bed storage benches means there’s no excuse for clutter. Get this combination of style and bedroom furniture essentials right, and you might even be in your teen girl’s good books for a little while! What more could you ask for?

These three cool royals have been invited to take part in the very first Princess Punk Street Style Contest. They’re each determined to win so they’ll need to come up with new looks that are big, bold, and all around awesome. Can you help all three of them choose a few piercings, temporary tattoos, edgy outfits, and more in this online game for girls?

In this DIY tutorial I also show several decor ideas for your desk, night stand or a dresser. One of these is a cactus with colored sand. You can buy already colored sand, or you can color it yourself using food coloring. This is such a fun and quick DIY decor idea and I love how it looks in the end. It also adds so much life to your teenage room.

It’s always so nice to refresh your space in little ways. You did such a good job. I love what you’ve done with the room in general. I’m actually obsessed with palette headboards my boyfriend is in the process of making us a smaller one, but repurposing it into a bed frame was a great idea. It looks awesome.

Bedrooms should be calming and seductive spaces, and this bedroom ticks both those boxes.  It has a calming, neutral pallet that is kept interesting through a mix of textures – wooden floors and ceiling, the white-painted brick wall, a sisal rug, a glamorous fur throw, and the marble bedside table.  The painted black wall adds another layer of luxury and glamour to this space, but the large, simple artwork keeps it from being too dark.  Interest to this monotone colour scheme is also brought in through the architectural style of lighting, and the pattern in the cushions.  All in all a perfect combination! Image credit

Emphasize a soaring ceiling with a showstopping theme. In this playful room, alternating stripes of sky and baby blues creates a tentlike ceiling treatment. A fun theme like this makes room for cool beds for girls. A classic four-poster bed has long-lasting style, while freestanding furniture—such as the desk, chair, and bookshelf—can be replaced or upcycled as she grows older.

Their rooms are still a huge work in progress. In fact, we did our big trip to IKEA, moved their rooms and then haven’t done anything since. As you will see in the pictures, there is still quite a bit of work to do.

It all should be really cute when we are done. I need to get busy saving money to finish their rooms. Snowflakes room will go first. That was another concession for getting the smaller room. She gets her room inside girls bedroom mansion first.

I have chosen this image because, as a Mum of 3-year-old boy and girl twins, this is such a great example of how to style a shared bedroom. Not only do the colours complement each other so well, but the room looks matched, even though it is for both sexes. The shelving is perfect for storing toys and books, and they can accessorize it with their own items. I am drawn to the simplicity of the design, and contemporary style especially as we now live in a modern new build home. My tips for styling a twins’ shared room is to keep it simple, use colour schemes that complement each other and involve the children in the process – as they usually like to have a say in what they prefer! I have always been very fond of vintage style – purely because of the character it brings to the room. What I love most about this room is first of all the white floor – very Scandinavian, the fireplace, the bed and last but not least; the floral bedding and curtains – adding life to the room. I can be here all day long, only thing that’s missing are French doors that open out to a cute balcony! Image credit

I really like these rooms I’m trying to design my daughters room because we are moving soon and i think the book shelfs are a great idea to store small things and big things without taking up space so thanks!!!!!

The age of your daughter will largely determine what type of décor or theme you should use in the room. With a newborn, you will want to find baby girl nursery room ideas, such as a farm animal or fairy theme, that will be appropriate for many years or that can easily be altered as your daughter grows and her tastes change. Circus design or farm animal themes are good baby room ideas for girls that your daughter will not quickly out grow. They are also both gender neutral themes that can be incorporated into a shared toddler room for girls and boys. For either of these designs, you can paint the walls of the room a neutral color such as pale yellow or blue and then purchase bedding, art, curtains, wall decals, and accessories that are consistent with the theme. Wall decals and pretty girls bedding sets with pink pigs, white ducks, yellow chicks and other barnyard animals are farm-themed accessories that are inexpensive and can be easily removed or altered when your daughter is older and wants to transfer her space into a teenage bedroom.

This tulle dress form of sorts is a great way to hold and display all of your little girl’s hair bows and such. The tulle easily holds its shape and has a great texture for the bows to hold on to, plus it can become quite decorative – it’s a bow skirt after all. momdot.

Your home’s master bedroom should feel like an oasis. It should be the relaxing space where you can go to escape the rest of life’s never-ending pressures. The question is: How do you create a space that feels equally indulgent and functional?

A retro Seventies-style wallpaper makes a striking statement in this bedroom. Pick out tones from the wallpaper and choose block-coloured furniture and accessories in those colours – keeping these large pieces simple helps to break up the pattern and avoid a fussy finish. A white-framed mirror and black-and-white fashion print from the same era adds a classic touch.

Afraid of being too stark? To keep your small bedroom from feeling cold or void of personality, layer your whites with different textures and white-on-white patterns for drama. In the bedroom above, the simple addition of a patterned throw and chrome bedside lamps transforms the room for sterile to stylish.

I love the fact that my bedroom is a comfy nook tucked under a pitched roof. To highlight the cosiness I have painted the pitched roof in a dark anthracite, that is ‘Down Pipe’ from Farrow & Ball. The atmosphere is meant to be calming and soothing. The overall colour scheme is moody with various hues of blue and grey. For that dash of boho style I’ve opted for a few houseplants around my bed and West African vintage indigo throw with a traditional pattern. It’s my favorite place to unwind from long and stressful days. Image credit

Small room decorating doesn’t have to be difficult. Our best advice on how to organize a small bedroom? Add one piece of drama. In this bedroom, a suzani patterned tapestry serves as an eye-catching headboard. Pair it was other boho accessories to tie the whole room together.

Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. We’ve compiled some master bedroom ideas to help take your space from simply being where you sleep to your favorite room in the house. Whether you go for a moody hue or stick to a crisp pale shade, adding plenty of light sources is key to keeping the room from feeling dark and claustrophobic. “Decorative overhead lighting like a pendant or chandelier (instead of ceiling cans), bedside table lamps, a floor lamp, and even reading sconces will add to the ambience,” he says. “Like Andy Warhol said, ‘I believe in low lights and trick mirrors.’

The fact that bedrooms are personal spaces often shared with another person makes decorating tricky. One crucial tip to keep in mind as you consider bedroom ideas is to forego popular trends or styles in favor of what makes you happy. If there aren’t any significant bedroom remodeling changes, determining your furniture layout is the first (and biggest) decision you will need to make. Once you’ve settled on a bedroom layout, take the time to select colors and decor that reflect your personality, but also take into consideration the serene nature of a bedroom. If adding new decorations and furniture isn’t enough of an aesthetic change, you can turn your bedroom makeover into a full blown remodel by creating your own master bedroom suite, complete with a sitting room and master bathroom.

While a bedroom should be pleasing to the eye it should also be comfortable too. Oftentimes, bed companions have difficulty in finding a bed that matches both their preferences. This could be because a single person needs to rise while resting while the various other likes a flatter placement for improved comfort. A split flexible bed can provide an excellent compromise that will suit the demands of both individuals.

The bedroom is the perfect place at home for relaxation and rejuvenation. While designing and styling your bedroom, you need to keep a lot of things in mind, such as colour, soft furnishings, textures, flooring, furniture etc. All these elements can all be tailored according to your taste, allowing you to create the serene and tranquil haven in your abode.

Of course, the first textiles that spring to mind are the bedding. But don’t just settle for any set. Layer multiple materials — think down, silk and shearling — to create a space that you never want to leave. Then, warm up the rest of the room by putting down a throw rug or adding a blanket to your seating area.

Sometimes, words of encouragement are exactly what you need to start the day smiling. Hang our wall art lettering up and remind yourself to stay happy as you shine through your day. Some options, like our heart-shaped cabinet, provide functionality too.

Anyone who has ever lived in a major city has probably had their share of small-bedroom woes. (Why is it that the room expected to hold the largest piece of furniture is often one of the tiniest?) It may seem like your options are confined to squeezing in a bed and—if you’re lucky—a nightstand, but there are ways to pack plenty of style into your limited space. Also, don’t overlook the benefits. “I actually prefer smaller bedrooms to larger ones,” says Portland, Oregon, designer Max Humphrey, whose own bedroom is on the small side. “They’re cozier and you don’t have to waste money furnishing a room with a seating area no one will ever use.” If you’re ready to embrace your small bedroom, check out Humphrey’s tips for making the most of it.

Even when the day is pure chaos, your bedroom is the one place where you should always be able to go and regroup — no kids, no electronics (although they usually find a way to force themselves in anyway). Still, you can at least give yourself home court advantage by choosing decor you love. These easy, inexpensive ideas should be a good start…

Ultimately, do not fail to remember to include plenty of storage space for clothes and also playthings. Wood toy boxes as well as cages are ideal for young boys as well as can be easily converted into various other uses when they are older. A workdesk is also a wonderful product to include in any little one’s room. When they are young, a workdesk provides the perfect surface for every one of those developing activities which young boys tend to enjoy and also as they get older it will certainly give the excellent study setting.

This room, done in daring strokes of aqua and pink, is proof that two colors can pack a punch. Looking to create your own dramatic look? Use large blocks of your chosen colors (such as on the wall and bedspread), limit patterns, and add in doses of white for a crisp finish.

Creating a play area that both siblings can enjoy, even simultaneously, is super helpful, especially for tired mommies and daddies. Floor mats, cushions and soft larger items like a rocking horse and tents are perfect to outline the area and fun for both to play in. Place your older child’s toys in accessible storage containers, but higher than the floor so your youngest can’t easily touch it.

When it pertains to colors, you might discover that it is best to start with his preferred color. If the shade he has actually selected is too dark for the real wall shade, you can constantly repaint the wall surface a neutral shade and afterwards integrate his favorite shade into patterns, wall surface borders, etc

A traditional style, like the British colonial look shown here, doesn’t have to be stuffy. A few shots of color, interesting artwork and accessories, and a pretty upholstered headboard give this classic look fresh sensibilities. Plus, leaning a large mirror against the wall is a great way to add visual size to a small room.

A gauzy, ceiling-hung canopy is a nice touch to a girl’s bedroom decor. Not only does it give this twin bed princesslike appeal, it also adds interesting height to the corner of the room. Simple, casual furnishings in neutral hues allow your little girl’s decorating style to change easily as she grows. Clever storage space below the bed make clean-up after play time a breeze and teach her the values of organization.

Although the internet and home decorating magazines are great resources for girls room designs, ideas and pictures for this space can be found in unexpected places. Get inspiration from childhood story books, your daughter’s favorite movie, or even popular television shows. However the best, and most important resource for unique girls room design ideas such as castle themes, Barbie decorations, or mermaid inspired décor, will be your daughter herself. Regardless of how old she is, most young girls will have some sort of preference towards what is put in their room, whether it be for the color you paint the walls, the art you hang on the walls, or the covers you put on the bed. So try to involve your daughter in the decoration process by having her look at online pictures of kids rooms with you, tag along with you while you search department stores for childrens bedding, or even come with you to the home improvement store to find paint samples. With her help you will be able to make your little girls room makeover a fun and exciting task.

My favourite bedroom has got to be my own. First of all, our ‘Breaking Bad’ style crocheted throw. Doug and I got completely addicted to this piece of TV genius and are convinced it is going to seriously influence Interior Trends for the next decade – the architecture in Albuquerque is so nice: slightly Mexican with a modern ‘edge’. The artwork above the bed is by my husband, Douglas. His work is our pension. The 1980’s style TV in the corner is a reassuring presence, as is the retro gas fire – all perfect for our unique, one off 1970’s house. The wire shelving racks are the perfect place to put books, phones and our industrial style inspection lamps. Image credit

What a view! Admittedly, only a lucky few can call an ocean front bedroom their own. However, this bedroom is not just about the view. In my opinion it perfectly interprets what I call the key elements of successful bedroom design: clean lines and uncluttered surfaces in combination with warm materials, rich textures and soothing colours. Add a few pools of light and you got yourself the perfect recipe for a cosy haven of relaxation. In this particular bedroom they took it a further notch up by adding the element of fire, creating a truly harmonious environment and perfect balance. Image credit

While modern and luxurious design ideas often tell you that you need to have a sitting area, small office, or a king size bed in your bedroom, don’t forget that a bedroom’s main function is to be a place to rest and recharge. And you don’t much to create a beautiful space to do so.

Building your little girl a Princess Bedroom makes them feel loved and special, and it helps bring magic into their lives. And while fairytale princesses can make use of all of the realm’s gold to put together their dream bedrooms, you don’t need a huge budget to make pink fantasies come to life.

It’s hard to believe that this is the same room in the same house. Black and white horizontal stripes elongate the sweet space, giving a greater sense of width. With a cute little crib and star-studded ceiling, we imagine that Benjamin, now two, is sleeping just fine.

More often than not, people struggle with trying to make the most of limited storage in their bedrooms. One surefire way to combat that issue is by bringing it to the forefront of your design rather than hiding it away. By incorporating these storage solutions into your décor, you can let your belongings serve stylish double-duty.

If wallpaper  is your or your child’s preference, decide whether this will cover every wall or be a feature on one wall. Wallpaper can be a trickier option than paint, as themed designs may not always be flavour of the month in years to come, so they might need to be updated relatively frequently.

Beds can make a bedroom layout feel very linear and square. You can prevent this by placing a comfortable upholstered chair on an angle in the corner. This softens the corner of the room and encourages circulation. Add a small side table, some artwork and an ottoman, if there’s room, to make a cozy and inviting place to relax.

Personally I like a child’s room not to have a theme, instead adding decorative touches, so that they can grow with the room. I tend to always steer towards bright pastels and pattern for children, I think it brightens a room and makes them feel clean but cool at the same time. The photo shows a beautiful bedroom for a little girl. I love how it is totally neutral whilst colourful – this room could happily be for a girl or boy of any age. My top picks for a children’s room would always be second-hand furniture painted in beautiful colours, bright simple bed linen, key timeless decorative pieces that can be passed down, photos or artwork to reflect their personalities and loads of storage. Image Credit

You may want to rethink your black-out window treatments. Embrace natural light, which will help a small bedroom feel light and airy. Layer drapes and light-blocking shades for style and optimal light control.

Or, opt for a hollywood-style frame that supports the bottom of the bed and extends no further than the perimeter of the mattress. You can decorate the space above the bed with art, or add a headboard later.

Carpets are the ideal choice for a young child’s room, as they will provide cushioning for little ones if they fall. Go for a colour or pattern that will hide stains – you can guarantee there will be spillages! In later years, wood-effect laminates are a good option and are affordable and easy to clean – just add a rug for a bit of warmth.

I decided to give the smaller room to my older daughter, Snowflake. My younger daughter, Pumpkin, got the larger room. When my older daughter was younger she had some major issues with the bigger room and wouldn’t even go in that room alone. It was a whole big deal, we had some concerns that some of that may resurface. We also felt that she is at an age where her ‘toys’ are getting smaller and she doesn’t need as much space for her things and room to play on the floor. My younger daughter has quite a few larger toys and still loves plenty of room to play. She got the larger room. Like I said, I’m still not sure we made the right choice, but it is done for now.

Nurture the art lover in your teen by decorating their bedroom walls with prints they’ve picked. If their room is already a technicolour dream, pick a portrait that incorporates as light up bedroom signs for girls of the colours as possible to tie the room together.

There is no reason at all that a small bedroom – even a really tiny bedroom – can’t be every bit as gorgeous, relaxing, and just plain full of personality as a much larger space. (As proof, check out the elegant bedroom from Laura Stein Interiors shown here.) The trick to creating a lovely bedroom when square footage is limited is to make smart use of the space you do have, keep furnishings scaled to the room, and most of all, not be afraid to show off your decorating chops.

I’m drawn to minimalist interiors because I find space, clean lines and simplicity extremely calming. For me, a bedroom should be clear of clutter. Like a blissful sanctuary to escape to at the end of a busy day. I love the elegance of this room, the grey bed, bedding and classic chair give it character. While the glass doors bring a little bit of the outside in. It’s a stunning space and I’m sure it’s an uplifting room to wake up in. Image credit

This is my ideal bedroom style, I love the use of soft and subtle tones with small injections of colour such as the yellow used in bedside accessory bowl and the brass used on those gorgeous twin wall lamps. Whilst the room is light, with a large window, the space is warm and welcoming with the help of a plush throw, soft sheets and a complementing headboard to the bed.  Image credit

I’m a huge fan of simple and functional Scandinavian style with a monochrome and neutral colour palette. This bedroom is quite minimalist, but at the same time has everything you need to relax. I prefer all white bedding (linen bedding is my favourite!) which is in this bedroom combined with some black pillowcases to add contrast against the white wall. I love to bring some warmth into the monochrome interior by adding natural materials (like wood) and also green plants – both of which have been used in this bedroom. Image credit
