Using mirrors will add depth and dimension to a small bedroom because of their unique ability to act like additional windows. Hanging several smaller mirrors in a group can add lots of visual interest, while using one large mirror will instantly create the illusion of more square footage. Photo courtesy of Layla Palmer.

This is a photo of my 8 year old son’s room, styled and photographed by myself. It’s a modern Breton themed bedroom.  I styled this bedroom in the autumn to bring a fresh, bright and happy feel to the room. I made sure that a cosy feel is maintained, with the soft throw on the bed for bedtime tucking in and the cushion for casual lounging. Everything is positioned conveniently, such as the comforting bedside light, an accessible bedside table for his drink and storage below his table for toys. Next to his bed is a laundry bag which encourages tidiness. To the right of his bed is a large shelf of favourite books, recently converted to his workspace. To the left of his bed is an empty area for running around with friends. Image credit

Gray’s sedate vibe makes it especially good for the bedroom. But when decorating with gray, be sure to add plenty of interest to keep the look lovely, not grim. Take a few tips from the gorgeous room from Jean Stephane Beauchamp Design shown here; a strong area rug, an intriguing ceiling fixture, a luxurious velvet upholstered headboard, and a touch of fun in the skull-adorned throw pillow guarantee that this entirely-gray-and-white master bedroom is anything but boring.

Love the photos, really gave me some ideas on decorating my next flat. The bedroom in the new property is quite small but the walls are painted in a cream colour – will be easy to pick the right elements to decorate it. Since I’m a tenant, I’ll have to find non-destructive ways of decorating the place. I will also have to think how I’ll remove and clean the place when my tenancy comes to an end, but this isn’t a problem since London is full of shops and I have plenty of things to choose from.

I absolutely love this bedroom and it has actually inspired my own bedroom makeover. The bold use of indigo is classy and sophisticated and creates a sleep-inducing atmosphere. Blue is a very calming and soothing colour to use in the bedroom and can aid restful sleep. The use of chunky knits, Damask prints and patterned cushions adds to the cosy feel of this room. Image credit

These fashionable princesses are experimenting with some floral patterns in this online dress up and design game for girls. You can help them while they create a few cute outfits that are really flowery and choose some new hairstyles, too.

The color white is an expansive and practical choice for a small bedroom. It keeps the space from looking too busy or boxed in. Using white or lighter colors combats the absence of large wall space or windows to brighten up the space.

I am loving this red bedroom when typically I wouldnt. I believe the beige walls and white pillows and other white elements in the room save this from appearing small and dark. That accent wall is really nice.

There are few places where a teen can express themselves unabashedly. The bedroom is the top choice. The beauty of being a teenager is that the world is their oyster. Their favorite things are diverse and sometimes discordant, but with some planning, all ideas can tie together beautifully.

Most bedrooms function as living and playing spaces, which means decorating needs to work double-duty. Choose a rich color, like this terra-cotta, and introduce accents in natural tones to keep the room feeling warm and comfortable.

Are Ariel, Cinderella and Belle your daughter’s best friends? Does she love every Disney princess and dream of arriving at a ball in a pumpkin carriage of her own? She’s not alone — the many princesses of Disney have been loved through several generations of girls. What better way to decorate her room than with a full-wall mural of her favorite animated characters? You can hire a muralist to create a one-of-a-kind design, or buy a wallpaper mural that is easy to apply on your own.

For a more modern-day and also trendy appearance you could additionally wish to think about a leather futon. This sort of bed as well as seatsing plan is certainly modern looking yet flexible adequate to offer dual purposes. Leather futons are likewise best for studio apartments where home as well as sleeping room are often done in one.

No teenage girl’s bedroom is complete without a vanity. This design is elegant and gorgeous while still maintaining a modern and sophisticated air. The intricately wrought Victorian-style mirror sets the basis for the Parisian flair further expounded upon with the Eiffel Tower sculpture and artwork, but still pairs well with the sleek lines of the minimalist vanity and drawers. A stylish floating bookshelf adds further storage area without overpowering the space and provides an ideal spot to place delicate decor items to further the feminine appeal, like flower accents.

I’m 10 & my room has looked like what it is 3. Some of these rooms are awesome ( i would love a built in loft), but come on how long is ur room gonna stay like that? I love some of the rooms, but some r like insanly to neat.

Afraid of being too stark? To keep your small bedroom from feeling cold or void of personality, layer your whites with different textures and white-on-white patterns for drama. In the bedroom above, the simple addition of a patterned throw and chrome bedside lamps transforms the room for sterile to stylish.

I love the Scandi simplicity of this girl’s bedroom. Loft rooms are like a dream for most children – they are cosy, snug and a bit different. With this lovely white backdrop you can create a calm and uncluttered space – the mixture of white, pink and blue accessories make the room so modern. Current trends for girls’ bedrooms are veering away from the pink saturation approach of latter years, and moving towards something more creative and meaningful. You can decorate a room like this with slightly more nursery-like accessories to begin with and then up-style when your girl grows older. This can see your child through from baby, towards secondary school age – saving a fortune in decorating costs. On a final note, what’s not to love about the wonderful crepe lanterns and the cute lamb wall art?! Image Credit

Brighten up a neutral children’s room with splashes of colour. Chunky pink letters are mounted on the wall and delicate butterflies hang from the ceiling, giving the scheme an extra girly touch. Keep clutter to a minimum with a storage unit in playful colours.

Emphasize a soaring ceiling with a showstopping theme. In this playful room, alternating stripes of sky and baby blues creates a tentlike ceiling treatment. A fun theme like this makes room for cool beds for girls. A classic four-poster bed has long-lasting style, while freestanding furniture—such as the desk, chair, and bookshelf—can be replaced or upcycled as she grows older.

Everyone knows that both princesses and fairies have tutu skirts, so why not adapt the idea to your little girl’s bed? It’s as easy as creating pleats in sparkly tulle and then securing them to the sides of the bed with fabric glue. handimania.

Not all teens are blessed with the biggest of bedrooms, and it’s not always simple switching up from a children’s room to a more adult space. This attic bedroom does a great job of crossing that divide, with a cool Scandi style that makes the most of the available space with a raised built-in cabin bed, with storage below and in the alcove beyond… leaving the rest of the room free for your teen’s wardrobe (ideally not scattered across the newly-freed-up floor). The wood cladding keeps the bedroom calm and enhances the sense of space – essential in a teen girl’s room – while colourful bed linen can be used to add personality and flair.

When decorating small bedrooms, every square inch is potential storage. Sure, you can stash sweater boxes under the bed, but if you boost the bed frame on blocks and add a voluminous skirt, you can hide a set of luggage under there. Place a storage ottoman under the window to hold extra bedding. Use a chest as a bedside table to gain drawer space. When it comes to organizing a small bedroom, make the most of your closet with an organizer system. And look for wall space where you can hang a bookshelf.

Shoe horning three children into one bedroom is no mean feat and to pull it off this stylishly is quite a challenge. Three boys inhabit this small room; each has his own super cool platform bed suspended from ropes at differing levels, an individual wall light and artworks adorning their space. A colour palette of earthy grey looks wonderful teamed with natural wood and uplifting warm yellow. Every bed is identically dressed in crisp white linen and highlighted with a textural grey blanket and accented yellow cushion. Each child has an equal portion of the room so sharing should be a joy and not a trial. In fact, I can quite imagine these boys enjoying bed swapping every night! My top tips would be that when furnishing a small room, limit your palette of colours and materials – using too many will visually clutter a room and make it feel much smaller. The adage “less is more” is so true! Also, wall mounting furniture makes a room feel bigger – it’s all about being able to see under and around things that tricks the eye into thinking a space is bigger than it really is. Image Credit

I love the calming and clean atmosphere this space has, which I think is really important for a child’s room. As a Mid Century design geek I love the simple wooden mobile hanging above the cot, the print of the wolf cub matches the earthy tones of the wood and cushion perfectly. I also love the idea of having photography of baby animals in a kid’s room, its just the right amount of cuteness whilst still feeling a little grown up. I’m a big fan of Middle eastern textiles and I really like the slight juxtaposition of the candy coloured persian rug and monochrome block printed throw. I chose this image as it has a great balance of mature style with cute elements and I think a room like this could be easily adapted as the child grows up. Image Credit

Add bold, summery textiles to a light filled room and you’re guaranteed a fresh, summer feeling all year around. We love the hanging lampshades in this room; even without bulbs they make a great feature.

I actuallly really like these rooms, there really neat. But in case you havn’t noticed alot of teen girls(or at least the ones i know), aren’t exactly up there on the money scale. i mean there not broke, but they cant go buy stuff like this for an affordable price. And usually the ones who can, well they dont use the internet for there bedroom ideas. They probably use the months top teen room magazine or somthing like that.lol I’m just saying, the girls that actually use this site for ideas probably wouldnt be able to use this stuff. Maybey a more realistic list of teen room would be better for our use. Besides real talent is making your room look amazing with a small bugdet. Being creative!

I’m a huge fan of simple and functional Scandinavian style with a monochrome and neutral colour palette. This bedroom is quite minimalist, but at the same time has everything you need to relax. I prefer all white bedding (linen bedding is my favourite!) which is in this bedroom combined with some black pillowcases to add contrast against the white wall. I love to bring some warmth into the monochrome interior by adding natural materials (like wood) and also green plants – both of which have been used in this bedroom. Image credit

These rooms are awesome! Really love the graffiti wall and blackboard wall; I think feature walls really make a room stand out. I have found some brilliant teen bedroom ideas recently, a great range to suit all budgets.

Being a teen girl myself, I have to say this is not realistic whatsoever. I don’t know about all the other girls, but I would have liked something WITHOUT having to go out and buy everything new. That’s just my opinion, some of these were great to dream about..but not all of us could afford this.

My recipe for a cool children’s bedroom involves 3 how can i decorate my little girls bedroom color baby blue and brown ingredients: great storage, blackboard paint and amazing lights. I love this room because it works just as well for girls as it does for boys. The rock star/monochrome theme is always age appropriate – very important because in my experience kids grow. Fast! The hip industrial vibe is den-like and softened with tactile furs, comforting checks and a cosy rug. Extra twinkling lights at ceiling height add a bit of fairytale magic and nobody grows out of sleeping under the stars, right? On the other side of this room I’d install a bank of full height cupboards to hide all the cargo that comes with every child and also has a habit of growing with them. Mini rock stars might prefer a cabin bed or bunks and some extra spots and stripes in the form of soft furnishings would provide the X factor for me. I really like alot of these rooms plus u cud combine them to get like the best room ever!!!! i liked the multi-coloured spots on the walls i 1 of the rooms x i loved the second pink room x there is a really good range for all different teen girls even the more boyish girls i thought x

A little bit Midsummer Night’s Dream, a little bit folksy, this nature-inspired bedroom comes out quite high on the girly decorating scale, even with it’s blue-hued colour palette. A scattering of cushions embroidered with birds and butterflies brings a touch of whimsy, while a sheer lavender canopy draped over the bed keeps the look light and airy. Accessories in natural materials, such as the woven lampshade, cut through the blue to keep the space from becoming overwhelmingly dreamy!

An organized and clutter-free bedroom doesn’t have to consist of clear storage containers and rows of school-style cubbies. Sometimes, words of encouragement are exactly what you need to start the day smiling. Hang our wall art lettering up and remind yourself to stay happy as you shine through your day. Bling it up with flashy glitter letters in sayings like peace, or take it down a notch and just hang your name on the back of your bedroom door. Some options, like our heart-shaped cabinet, provide functionality too.

WoW! The bedroom by Samantha Pynn is incredible and perfect for us. I got married couple of weeks ago and we’re moving next month to our new apartment. So I was looking for special bedroom decoration ideas and got the perfect one!

Of course, the first textiles that spring to mind are the bedding. But don’t just settle for any set. Layer multiple materials — think down, silk and shearling — to create a space that you never want to leave. Then, warm up the rest of the room by putting down a throw rug or adding a blanket to your seating area.

I’m interested in function and beauty in my room; not space age cubicles with a splash of color here and there. Please include rooms that are actually realistic and comfortable. I don’t understand this obsession with doctor’s office style bedrooms…

This beautiful soft industrial bedroom featured on the cover of the launch issue of Warehouse Home – and it’s been proving very popular! The original features of a warehouse conversion, such as exposed brickwork, can often feel ‘hard’ and ‘masculine’. Old and new steel furniture is especially striking in such spaces but can also feel cold. When styling the Warehouse Home bedroom (above), we wanted to prove that industrial chic can have a soft side. A bespoke galvanised steel pipe bed, designed exclusively for Warehouse Home by Inspirit Deco, was the focal point of our warehouse bedroom. And beside it, a vintage industrial bedside cabinet. We then used a ‘masculine and feminine’ palette of greys and blush pinks and a variety of textured fabrics (linen, tweed, velvet), to bring warmth to our bedroom and soften the industrial look. Select vintage accessories complemented the warehouse conversion’s heritage features, while flowers and decorative vintage glassware further enhanced the “femininity” of the space. Image credit

When it comes to feng shui bedrooms, a free-flowing layout is crucial. The ideal placement for your bed is as far away from the door as possible, but still in a position that lets you see the entrance; usually, the corner diagonally across from the door is the best spot. Try and avoid having your head under a window due to the ebb and flow of energy going in and out; this causes disturbed and interrupted sleep. Do not position your bed so as to have your feet point out the door while you’re sleeping; this is called the “Death Position” as the deceased are carried out feet first, and sleeping this way is said to drain your life force.

These are way too overboard. I mean who has money to do all this. I personally do not like any of them. Some are too girly whille others are just plain ew. Put something that could possibly be real please.

I all honesty, I don’t see how this is supposed to help make the most out of a small room. First of all, they just look like normal bedrooms. And anyay, I guess it’s not what I googled for. The reason I was looking for a post on how to maximize on small room space is because right now my bedroom is also my living room is also my office. I live in NY and I am SURE I am not the only person with this sort of living arrangement. Real estate costs. And quite frankly we are paying for every cubic inch of space in a room here in the city, meaning loft beds and over head storage and really anything and everything to maximize on space and provide order to a multi-purpose room. I don’t need to make my small space LOOK bigger. For what? I need it to feel functionally bigger, since I can’t actually have it bigger.

Next, think about what mood you want to evoke. Do you have trouble sleeping? Maybe opt for a calming blue. Do you want to set the mood for romance with your partner? Fuller, darker colours may be a better match then. Consider if you want to have a TV in your bedroom. If yes, do you want it on display or hidden? Or maybe you want to have a little office within your bedroom? You may be better off styling with neutral colours, but putting emphasis on the right inspiring artwork. In that case, you may also need to think of smart storage solutions so you can keep your workspace tidy and not let it interfere with your sleep. Have a browse through our images to get a feel for what appeals to you, and don’t forget to pay attention to lighting as well.

I have a thing for fairytales and so I always seek for that ‘happily ever after’ look in my home. With its tactile textures, warming beige tones and flowing covers, this bedroom is the epitome of a bed that’s fit for a princess and her prince – or me and my fiancé. It’s clear that the main focus of the room is the bed itself and so, as I believe that you can never have enough scatter cushions either, this scene truly is my ideal bedroom.

Snowflake wants a pink, white and blue theme with snowflakes in her room. She wants me to design something neat for over her desk. I think she needs new more mature bedding as well. New curtains will likely go along with the completion of her room.

The choice of bed in a girl’s room could normally aid to create the focal point for the space. When choosing a bed, it is typically best to consider a bed as well as head board that can grow with the youngster. There are a variety of means to do this. Vintage vanity is on the list for Squiggles’ room. I like the color of this one: Fresh coat of paint on vanity and recovering with a fun Amy Butler coral/orange print. Love keeping the furniture that I grew up with and giving it new life for Ava’s room.

Similar to a girl’s bedroom it is often best to try to develop a bedroom that he will take pleasure in for several years rather than a bedroom where he is most likely to lose interest after just a few months. While many youngsters often have preferred characters, they will likely grow out of those passions within a year at one of the most. One means to endanger on this subject is to create a bedroom that can easily expand with your child then concentrate their character passions in items that could be conveniently changed without way too much expenditure such as with window therapies, bedding and also accent items.

Before we get started on the various prints, patterns and colour palettes to consider, we need to address the double bed vs single bed debate that might be raging in your home; this teen bedroom furniture argument is not as unusual as you might think – sales of single beds have dropped significantly in the last few years as teens’ beds become islands where they sleep, chat, watch TV and even do their homework. Whatever you decide, and with available space clearly the defining factor, the decorating ideas for teen girls rooms in this gallery can be adapted to suit either single or double bedrooms.

More often than not, bedrooms tend to be neutral spaces. After all, who doesn’t want to create a calming environment when a good night’s rest is on the line? But when you have neutral walls and bedding, accent pieces become that much more critical for creating a balanced design.

I’m a huge fan of simple and functional Scandinavian style with a monochrome and neutral colour palette. This bedroom is quite minimalist, but at the same time has everything you need to relax. Shelving is super convenient for toy organization as it doesn’t take up a lot of space and can be placed above dressers, desks, even above the door for hardly used items. Similarly, placing a bookshelf at the foot of the bed doesn’t take up valuable wall space and may even give you another surface near the bed for a lamp or nighttime book.

Think Pink! as the old song from the Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire film Funny Face goes. Pair a pink themed girls’ room with sturdy woods and sheer fabrics for a kid-friendly look that’s still stylish.

Designer Claire Paquin carefully crafted this glamorous tween room with growth in mind. She kept the room’s main elements — flooring, wall color, built-ins and more —  in a neutral palette to allow for shifting style preferences through the years.

Heart Photo Wall: Photos always make great decor for the teen girls. How about this heart photo wall? I believe it will be every girl’s wish list. Easy and fun to make just with a bit of time and creativity!

Turn your little one’s room into a storage oasis with built-ins. Here, a custom-designed built-in window seat includes storage space for everything from books to toys to clothing. In each cubby, a pull-out basket waits to easily hide toys and unsightly cords. Not shown, a large cabinet next to the bed provides more storage for art supplies and games. If you are a kind of girly girl, and you love to have your room dominated in pink, but don’t want it to look childish you can add an adult edge by having your focal wall in darker colors and then provide your room with pink stuff . That will give you the pinkish domination you want in your room, and it will not look childish at the same time, so you get the best of both worlds.

If you need more storage space for your clothing, but don’t have room for a piece of free-standing furniture, consider installing a built-in dresser. Not handy enough to tackle the task? No problem! Carpenters typically charge between $25-$35 an hour and hiring a professional will ensure the job gets done right and that you have heaps of hidden storage, too. Photo courtesy of Camila Pavone.

If space is at a premium in your little one’s room, try pushing the bed against a wall. With the bed out of the way, she’ll have plenty of play space on the floor—which will also prevent toys from cluttering up your living spaces. An upholstered queen-size headboard along the bedside creates the look of a daybed and keeps kids safe from rolling between the bed and the wall while they sleep.

Isn’t this just so cute? The shelf with the doll clothes hanging from it is part of my $24 shelving solution (which is now split up between the two rooms). Love how she has the horses all in the stable.

I adore these room ideas for young girls. Some are for a little younger girl but my favorite has to be the one with the Audrey Hepburn picture on the wall. Its trendy, flirty, and girly. These ideas are so different I could see many personalities being able to shine through with them.

To maximize the floor space, tuck your bed up against a wall or corner. The effect will create a sleep area that feels cozier. If it feels too much like a college dorm? Add a two headboard corner system to create a finished, designer look to a bedroom.

When decorating a tween girl’s room, don’t be afraid to pack it with pattern. Introduce different prints by layering patterns similar in color yet different in scale. An excellent rule of thumb is to stick with one large-, one medium- and one small-scale pattern. This will ensure the layered look appears balanced rather than busy.

Designer Candice Olson created the ultimate girl’s getaway by turning a small bay window into the background for an inspiring workstation and craft area. The white built-in desk unit provides plenty of drawers, cubbies and cabinets for keeping supplies tucked away and out of sight. Lighting offers an opportunity to add personality while also introducing different styles and design eras. When it comes to tween girl’s rooms, vintage light fixtures are almost always a sure-fire hit. As retro styles become increasingly popular for tween and teen girls, it’s smart to consider searching local flea markets and thrift stores for fixtures from the 1960s and 1970s. This brass and smoked Lucite chandelier is from the mid-1970s and is considered a modern classic. Should the tween girl grow tired of it, the fixture can be used in another area of the house or, since vintage pieces hold their value, it can be sold online through a vintage consignment mega-site.

It might be tempting to buy the biggest bed possible to feather a luxurious nest. But doing this in a small space tends to cause a more cramped feel. Instead, choose a bed with small stature that won’t choke the room, such as an iron bed with a see-through headboard and footboard. Or pick a bed with no footboard at all, such as a platform or storage bed. Doing so will keep the middle of your room open, making it feel larger.

A bank of windows frames a pretty picket-fence bed. Surrounded by colorful curtains, the bed is the room’s focal point. Sunlight streams in to illuminate the space, but heavy curtains can be drawn to block out the light for nap time. Although a double bed might look oversized now, it will accommodate a growing child in later years, making it a strategic long-term investment.

There are two ways to organize a small bedroom: You can make it dark and cozy with saturated berry reds or chocolate browns. Or, you can boost daylight with barely dressed windows and a light-bouncing color on the wall, such as cloud white or sunshine yellow. Either way, don’t take a weak approach. You can be bold in a small space without risking too much money or effort.

I’m so glad you could gain an idea or two from my pics! The shelving unit on top of the Trofast is another shelf from IKEA. I don’t remember which system it was from but I bet if you look at an IKEA or on their site you could find it. It was an add on shelf that I thought would work perfectly there from storing some of their larger items. My girls have adjusted to having their own space. They really like it. Though most Friday nights you will find them having a slumber party with their sister. ?

Young adults are hard to please so give them lots of input. Provide plenty of storage so there’s no excuse for mess, and make sure they have a good study area. Invest in a trundle bed for those sleepover parties, and let them keep their favourite accessories on display in mounted box shelves.

To give your master bedroom a lasting, stately design, consider investing in a built-in closet-organization system. These can be customized to your space and needs. Look to your attic for space to grow, like in this little girl’s bedroom design. If a remodel is involved, tailor the basics of the room to suit your home’s style. For example, if you have a farmhouse, use warm, rustic wood on the walls and floor. That way, the space will blend seamlessly with the rest of the home should it be used for another purpose down the road.

For the girl who is always experimenting with a new look, offer her a solid-color bedspread with the option of interchangeable throw pillows. Plush carpets work well for bedrooms. Although they offer comfort and luxury, carpets are dust traps and have to be cleaned regularly. Stains can be difficult to remove and they are not durable as hardwood floors. If you choose to use hardwood flooring, be sure to invest in good quality area rugs as they can help to soften the look of the bedroom and add warmth. Tiles are another option, and work well in hot climate regions, as they help to keep the place cool. Vinyl and laminate flooring are also options worth considering for the bedroom.

Coral, turquoise and cream white…all the favorite colors for teens, and they go with each other so well and turn out to be so beautiful in this bedroom. The turquoise patterned wallpaper gives more fresh look and the window seat…Love all these without a reason! via House of Turquoise.

Your home’s master bedroom should feel like an oasis. It should be the relaxing space where you can go to escape the rest of life’s never-ending pressures. The question is: How do you create a space that feels equally indulgent and functional?

i like the rooms I just feel like a lot of them are girly when not all girls are all about the pink and lacy frill thing. i also looked at the boys rooms and i liked more of those than i did of these–but the one i really liked on this was the one with the ladder that led to this cool loft thing–it would need to be teenager room girl different color but it was pretty cool ?

I love the diversity in this post. You can find inspiration for everything – from cosy and snuggly bedrooms to dark and mysterious ones. Especially liked the one with the wall mural, feels like sleeping in the forest, out in the fresh and crisp air. I remember seeing a similar design but with rain clouds. I think natural wall murals bring peace and serenity to the bedroom.

I agree that these rooms are unrealistic and too perfect. I’m currently trying to re-decorate my room and none of the above were helpful in providing even the slightest inspiration. Most of them are twice the size of my room; and alot of the furniture just wouldn’t fit. If anyone has pictures of rooms that are smaller and something do-able, let me know.

And if those areas aren’t quite enough, the spacious closet provides more storage space for shoes, clothing, accessories, and toys.

I’m 13 and I like to say that these layouts, ideas for bedrooms are great. Considering the fact that i have a big bedroom. I do agree with you Olivia 12 is the best, I love that they are not afraid of putting a little spot up there to chill or even to just sit there and enjoy time. It may be hard to believe that I have a room that big but it is very true.

I love so much about this baby/toddler room interior. The bunting across the blind really sets a tone for the room and I love the lights hanging off of the ladder, they add a touch of warmth and cosiness to the room – which is exactly how every baby or child’s room should feel. I love that the floors and walls are bright. There’s a blue, white and grey theme which is fantastic because it suits a young baby as well as being grown up enough for a toddler. We’re re-doing our boys’ rooms this year and this image among others is where we’re taking inspiration from. I plan to use a light laminate floor like here and opt for light walls too, contrasting it by using colourful accessories. I think that when it comes to children’s interiors it’s fine to want to go modern, but it’s important to make sure that the room both reflects your child’s personality and is fun and young at the same time. While blue is often a go-to color for boys’ bedrooms, that doesn’t mean it’s no-girls-allowed. Take on this hue for a cool girl room idea. Whether you choose to go vibrant, pastel, or dark, use organic or floral prints, billowy window treatments, and layers of bedding to soften the look.

Large pieces of furniture can make small rooms look cramped and even smaller. If your closet is big enough, you can avoid this problem by using it as a home for your chest or dresser. You will free up floor space, make your room appear larger and have all of your clothes in one convenient spot.

My favourite bedroom has got to be my own. First of all, our ‘Breaking Bad’ style crocheted throw. Doug and I got completely addicted to this piece of TV genius and are convinced it is going to seriously influence Interior Trends for the next decade – the architecture in Albuquerque is so nice: slightly Mexican with a modern ‘edge’. The artwork above the bed is by my husband, Douglas. His work is our pension. The 1980’s style TV in the corner is a reassuring presence, as is the retro gas fire – all perfect for our unique, one off 1970’s house. The wire shelving racks are the perfect place to put books, phones and our industrial style inspection lamps. Image credit

Afraid of being too stark? To keep your small bedroom from feeling cold or void of personality, layer your whites with different textures and white-on-white patterns for drama. In the bedroom above, the simple addition of a patterned throw and chrome bedside lamps transforms the room for sterile to stylish.

Add a little whimsy to your child’s space and create a handmade mobile. Birds, butterflies and geometric shapes are currently the most common mobile designs on the market. Make your mobile from a simple quilt hoop, fishing wire and fabric, or cut the shape you desire from simple cardstock. Photo courtesy of ProjectNursery.com

Does your daughter have princess tastes, but your budget is a little less kingly? No worries, you can easily add pretty touches without spending a fortune. Take a tip from this room found on C Magazine, and adorn a simple bunk bed with lots of colorful tassels. Next, add a collection of fun and colorful throw pillows, and then hang a feather boa on the wall. Voila, the bedroom is ready for your little princess and your bank account is still intact.

Though it’s for two little girls, this room has plenty of grown-up sophistication. Crown molding, the fireplace mantel, and carved-wood bed frames are all highly traditional, but they are all finished in soft white rather than a dark stain. To create your own elegant room, stick with a palette of two colors, such as the sage and rose in this room.

This cottage bedroom at ‘Driftwood’  in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand was a shoot location for Laura Thomas Linens ‘Organic Bed Linen Collection’.  A space where time became irrelevant and the busy technological world we live in could be placed on hold.  The coastal style was uncluttered and the use of straw roller blinds and natural light created an atmosphere of wilderness and calm.  The incredible view could be enjoyed from the comfort of the bed.  A perfect paradise to wake up to! Image credit

When it comes to bedroom decorating ideas, your options are endless. When nailing down your bedroom design, it’s helpful to start by tackling the more permanent things, like furniture. Artwork and photographs that put you at ease are a great addition (although some advise against having family photos around, as they can hinder that “sexy bedroom” vibe), and mirrors are a must-have if you use the space for dressing. When considering bedroom ideas, bedding is always important — your duvet and decorative pillows should play nicely with the paint color and bedroom wall decor, but can also be swapped out easily, which makes it easy to incorporate an interesting print or texture. Lastly, add some accessories to style your nightstand or dresser; just be careful not to go overboard — too many knickknacks can make your room feel cluttered and disorganized, which can actually cause sleep trouble. If you keep these bedroom decorating ideas and color considerations in mind you should be well on your way to creating the perfect bedroom design.

This is a great idea if you want to have a canopy, but not on the bed. This toy canopy is a different way to store your girl’s toys while keeping them free from dust and other dirtiness. homeyhomedesign.

I stayed at the Ludlow Hotel in New York’s Lower East Side last October and I instantly fell in love with my room. The stark black four-poster bed was the perfect contrast to whitewashed walls and beams. The industrial black window frames were dressed with heavy patterned pleated silk shades. The massive brass pendant lamp, patterned flat-weave rug, sheepskin throws and deeply veined marble coffee tables accented the decor perfectly. And the http://www.telemundoamarillo.com/story/37622080/news of downtown Manhattan was of course unbeatable. Image credit

If you’ve got the square footage for it, aiding productivity can be as easy as including a dedicated workspace in the bedroom. This stylish set of bright whites with pops of pink and blue produces an air of driven focus, while still keeping a cheery, light-hearted vibe. Homework, studying, and research projects beware the powerhouse of teenage initiative that will settle in to pound out assignments at record speed in this gorgeous space. Bookshelves allow for storage of all the learning essentials, and a second, smaller pull-out desk makes it easy to swap between tasks. A comfy chair with fluffy pillows allows for brief respites in between hardcore study sessions.

I agree with Sarah Akwisombe’s statement. I too, enjoy having a room in dark colours because it’s super inviting and makes me want to sleep and relax. However, I am not a fan of brown colour on anything else than wood. I see that most of the pictures here portray white bedrooms… the least appropriate colour for a bedroom in my opinion.

Art is often overlooked in children’s and tween’s rooms; however, it can completely change the space and serve as a source of inspiration for the rest of the decor. This room was designed for a tween who was named after legendary bluegrass singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams. Commissioning an artist to draw an original portrait of the singer and having it professionally framed not only added a feeling of individuality to the room, it served as the inspiration for the room’s violet, black, white and gold palette.

If you’re into DIY, why not give upcycling a go? Search antiques shops or online for bargain pieces of furniture that you can transform with a coat of paint. It’s a good way to keep costs down, but you’ll also create something that’s wonderfully individual. Desks, chairs, cupboards and bookcases are good pieces to look for.

Scandinavian style bedrooms: Scandinavian style bedrooms are characterised by their simplicity, functionality and elegance. Earthy tones, beige and grey are juxtaposed with white painted walls. Hardwood floors can also be painted white and large wooden ottomans and vintage trunks are placed at the edge of beds, serving as attractive focal pieces and storage units. Soft lighting is an important element in Scandinavian style as natural lighting emphasises simplicity and elegance.

I’ve tried looking on the website where the image was originally published but unfortunately I can’t see what this paint is called or where it’s from, I’m so sorry. I hope you can find a close match soon!

On the hunt for ways to fill up your pegboard? Pick up a few BEKVÄM spice racks from IKEA and hang them on your board. Seriously though: A spice rack is the *perfect* place to store notebooks, pencil bags and more. (via Bondville)
